Even though I'm rooting for him, I can't help but being worried for Parting. In HotS, his PvZ never really inspired confidence. He's able to micro his way through lots of zergs, but I fear it might not be enough for beating Solar.
My heart wants MMA and Solar but for some reason, I am almost convinced TY will unexpectedly derail the MMA hype train, and Parting will eliminate Solar with a retro soul train.

I cannot describe how excited I am to see MMA back in the round of 8. He wasn't anywhere near this form in Korea when I started watching but I fell in love with the legacy and seeing him back at the top makes me thrilled.

That sounds like you're just picking and choosing your sample... Flash got through his qualifier. Zest and Stats didn't. Flash beat Byul (very solid Zerg)... I think it's safe to say he's doing better than he was last round in PL.

MMA is really a remarkable player, able to play at such a high level at this point in his career. It feels as if he plays his best in pressure situations. Where others often make mistakes, MMA makes all the right decisions

I love Parting's general idea, but it seems like HT transitions are so weak vs roach/hydra. But cool to see a Twilight-based build, DT attack into Blink attack into HT's.

Yeah, you can't get enough storms to hold the flood of Zerg units... but I'd be interested to see if he could have had more Templars/Storms if he hadn't gone DTs and just opened with a normal macro blink build into storm. The DTs killed only 12 drones or so, really wasn't worth the investment.

Yeah it's 3 DT's and a tech delay as well of course. But he did kill 16 drones and a queen, so Parting should have been able to follow it up better

It's not early game though, it was about mid game. I play Zerg and as I was watching that, I felt "Well, that's annoying to lose those drones but he lost 3 DTs and invested into a Dark Shrine so it's okay".
Well let's talk about this later, this ongoing game is more important.
PartinG is slowly winning this if Solar doesn't transition soon. RHV isn't supposed to win in the long run if it doesn't do tremendous damages with the first attack.

Zerg can open with a timing like that but if the Protoss stabilizes on 3-4 bases like Parting did you must tech switch to muta or sh.

well you cant vs good protosses. Parting is not one of them. Although solar lost that game due to his own errors completely unrelated to his comp.

I sort of agree, but it's also in general about the way you trade. You can play like this for quite a bit if you manage to kill the third once or twice or get rid of HT's/Immo's while you get more bases and stuff.

Can't afford either when going for the quickest max you can along with hive. After that he needed the units because 3base on roach hydra vs 3base protoss isn't exactly good
Parting's 4th was really fucking genious and it probably won him the game, without it he couldnt have afforded the zealots, or even templar and immortals after he lost his 3rd nexus.

Parting didn't skip colossi because of some sense of duty to the spectators. He skipped colossi because if he had teched to them instead of storm he would have lost the game.

I think there's a question of whether TY played badly, MMA simply made TY look bad, or, as Nathanias has pointed out in the past, it's just a case of TvT making the difference between the winner and the loser look bigger than it actually is.

TY made some pretty big mistakes without being forced to. In game 1, he sieged in a spot where MMA's tanks would reach and MMA had highground. In game 2, he let MMA's Raven kill 20 workers and was not prepared for MMA's doom drop, before that TY was slightly ahead, the drop did game ending damage though. In game 3 TY just fell apart completely.

Once again, Parting showcase incredible micro. Watching Parting is like watching Federer, you just think it's so easy. It's just so beautiful and fluid, that it can only contrast with how I make forcefield walls with more holes than a tennis racket, and lose my sentries before I even lose my zealots (because they are in the back of my army)

god i feel so bad for solar, he's worked his ass off to get so good over the past year, and third time round of 8 elimination. I guess until next season.

Solar missed the scout on the colossus den and went full hydra. That build is why I still don't believe in hydras to hold what looks like it is a Soul Train. It's just a free win for Protoss if it is this 2Immortal/2Colossus allin instead.

Yeah, its really cool. Honestly when all these "2014" guys play I enjoy it, watch good games and stuff, but when a SC2 legend plays against an oponnent without this kind of history (or one coming from BW), I feel much more invested in the outcome.
It actually shows that SC2 has stabilized as a game, which is cool. Of course, LotV will mess up the order again, but after some time, we'll see the same old players (plus a few new talented ones) at the top.

PartinG vs. Solar was all-round solid play, with nearly every game being a battle between strategy/control vs. solid macro play. Game 5 was the highlight of that series, but no game was absolutely must-watch or contained really sick strats.

MMA vs TY was a sad, one-sided roflstomp. PartinG vs Solar was a pretty good series though. In their game on Foxtrot, Solar went for a roach/hydra/viper timing, which PartinG countered with stalker/immortal/sentry/templar (with storms). He lost his third but already had his fourth up, minimising his losses, while at the same time channeling his inner Polt, sniping Solar's fourth. Their game on Catallena showcased PartinG's sick blink control, game 5 on MGR was a nice display of PartinG's mindgames. The games Solar won showed mostly how well prepared he was for his opponent, 8-pooling on King Sejong and overrunning PartinG despite losing 16 drones to DTs on Overgrowth.

I would expect that Life's trademark aggressive style would not suit Inno well, but he seems to handle it just fine. Also Inno is on a tear in TvZ recently. That's gonna be an interresting serie.

He's been on his stream pretty consistently lately. I'd say it was probably a mistranslation. Parting and Bisu are both protoss players I like a lot so it'd be cool if so, but doesn't make sense. They never even shared a team bench with each other so I'd be surprised if they've ever met.

I mean all these players have a shot tbh, there is noone who could be considered a 90:10 favorite against anyone else. But Innovation and Life should be the most likely winners of this code s season overall. I think that's pretty reasonable.

Thats fine Its just that ive been seeing a lot of posts that basically say it'd be surprising if he didnt advance. I find that to be hardly accurate with INno as an opponent. For the record: I would put him as the favorite, and honestly if I personally had to put money on it, I'd bet on Life too But its pretty darn close, not nearly as one sided as some make it seem.

finally had a chance to watch the games. not sure what TY was doing, but that hellbat attack in game 3 was sick by MMA.
part of the oddness of that series I feel is due to the casting. Tastosis seem to dedicate very little time to the early game and the players' builds, and I don't think they call out things that would lend more narrative to what's going on.
at the end of the series they were just like "well, that happened. ...what?"
does anyone else agree that if they had analyzed TYs and MMAs openers a little more, the games wouldn't have seemed so odd and anti-climactic?

I'm a newbie when it comes to the non zerg matchups so it would be nice if they analysed openings when its not standard.. But I mostly watch gsl.to be entertained and part of that is tastosis talking about random s*** at the start of the game.
