He just barely made it through. He started off strong and then suddenly started choking like every other foreign terran.

So awesome to see him screaming of happiness! :D He is always such a kind person on stream so I was definitely rooting for him. It's cool to see these worlds clash, to me it definitely feels like this is THE league to play in outside korea, while I kind of missed that feeling with previous WCS years (especially AM). I am very curious to see how the viewer amount compares to the other years. Yeah I was really rooting for him for that very reason, because he's one of the nicest people in the community. I'd still have liked to see Happy advancing, disgusting though his style was tonight, because he's a really good player. I guess the way he played tonight makes his elimination less bitter.

Sad that things like that can happen in sc2 :/

let them play 10 times and ppl will eventually stop saying PiG is better than Happy, which they sadly do on reddit. cuz happy would win at least 7 or 8. It's sad that ppl argue blinded by who they like, not by how the games went or by their knowledge of the game. Happy shouldve advanced 4-0 today, if not 4-1. i bet he was a bit crushed after that. combined with PiG abusing Happy's playstyle heavily, we get a result that shouldnt happen. and we have a potential semi-finalist going out against someone who would probably not even qualify through the EU way. very sad day for me.

PiG just 2-1 Happy... so that completely goes against your theory. Yes, Happy 2-0 at the start, but maybe over a longer set, PiG is actually better. I think you're being a little harsh against PiG's ability to adapt to his losses and push through. Well done PiG! yes, I am slightly biased being Aussie

If it was blind luck of PiG countering Happy I would agree with you here, but Happy has an extremely predictable style. Why would you not make use of this as a professional player, trying to beat your opponent? It shouldn't be possible to just play one single way in every matchup without anyone being able to counter that. PiG and Kane both picked up on this, and adapted. If Happy isn't capable of adapting himself, that is a weakness, and he's an inferior player in this regard. I agree that in a random ladder game, Happy is the superior player to both of them, and I got the impression that even they agree. But there's more to winning a tournament than simply being the better ladder player, and the most successful tournament players showed that being able to adapt is a very important skill to have. I also agree it's a shame Happy lost as I was rooting for him myself, but on the other hand, I can't get mad at the Commonwealth after seeing how appreciative and excited they were for having an opportunity to play in the Ro16. They did well to get there.

They did well to get there. In what way did they "abuse" his playstyle? Those were normal games, what should Kane/PiG have done so differently if it wasn't about facing Happy? Sure, they did the one or other straight-into-roaches, but even against any other build you can make a game out of it with something like a 1-1 roach push Hyun-style, if they then would have scouted that Happy was mixing it up more extreme. Though I disagree about your line about "only one playstyle in a matchup shouldn't be viable". Happy mixed it up with bio twice and played various openings. And even if he didn't, playstyles like Innovation style 3CC double ebay is pretty much viable without getting countered either, so are the common 3base ling/bling/muta+melee upgrade builds. Only bad builds are counterable, if you play a reactive style around a viable composition/metagame as Happy did there is nothing that straight up counters you.
