Startale-Yoe Flash Wolves did not show up 30 minutes before the match due to weather and recieved a forfeit by Kespa authorities. Jin Air automatically gets a default 4-0 win.

I was waiting to see if someone else would make the thread. There's a chance that if this goes REALLY late and I somehow still have classes despite the weather, then I might have to go.
Just got the phone call that school is cancelled! Get to watch some sick Starcraft after all! Got my traditional bagel and now I hope we get some good games!

I'm so done with this scene
I really hope you are joking, especially with that last part
what in the world?? this has to be the lamest reason to get a DQ loss EVER
also I bet Jin Air must have learned their lesson from (probably) getting yelled at for showing up late to GSL/SSL qualifiers (don't remember which one it was) : P
I mean, as a professional team, you should be thinking "You know what, the weather is pretty bad. We should probably give it an extra hour to get there." The fact this didn't happen is confusing as hell to me. I honestly can't believe a team would say "YOLO whatever we'll see how it goes."

Well, waiting for an explanation would be a good start before accusing ST.
I almost wish it was JAGW that couldn't arrive on time. People will get over Startale's absence, they weren't supposed to make it into the playoffs anyway. If it happened to a bigger team though, a team that had a legit chance to take the round, there's no way this would get glossed over.

I'm curious as to who should have make it to the playoffs instead of ST (hint: no other team).

actually i am extremely pissed because startale yoe showed A LOT of strength in the round robin. Even if they weren't "true" playoffs contenders, I'm pretty pissed because they beat a lot of good teams to get here, and now four of those teams couldn't make it so that Jin Air could get a free pass.

I'm not trying to be snarky or anti-ST, they're just obviously the weakest of the four playoffs teams IMO and so not as many people will be upset as if it were SKT. It doesn't mean ST couldn't have possibly beaten JAGW, Life can do anything.
WTF, last week no GSL. For the weekend the betting scandal blows in and now the last thing I was looking forward to has been cancelled :'( Please ST-Yoe, why did you do this I wanted to see you get destroyed by Maru =/
I agree it seems a bit shady for this to happen at this timing.
So, I watch an epic underdog sweep with an amazing final-game turnaround, then I flip to PL and discover that Kespa has elected to do something dumb again. I'm beginning to see where Scarlett's coming from.

I dunno man, this is a way worse time to be late since it's an marquee live broadcast event, whereas qualifiers had no audience and no broadcast - so only affecting the players if they have to wait for the late team; also DQ'ing ppl from qualifiers means they don't get play for several months, whereas ST-Y will be back next round, which I don't think should be too far away
Still though, it really sucks that they couldn't just delay the event, or reschedule with giving ST some massive penalties if necessary

no, the weather excuse is so weak it's not even funny.

it's most likely just a traffic issue plus a couple inches of snow, but seriously if you are a "professional" team you would know to make it to the "stadium" early enough to avoid this kind of nonsense.

Or the could have screwed up and left late, which combined with bad , but not blizzard level, weather (artosis posted on instagram it is snowing today) they were late. That is much simplier and more likely than some behind the scenes conspiracy

They had a fucking full house of fans in the studio and alot of people trying to watch it. When it is only about ST-Yoe stucking the snow, it is just a no sense action by KESPA: SpoTV likes to show a "oh sorry we have no games" instead of "we are 30 mins late, start will be arround 19:30pm to 20:00pm!"? Being on hour late due to weather conditions is not more then one swarm host game.
It smells either like there is something REAL going on behind the scenes (when snow is just a bad excuse) with ST-Yoe or KESPA doing everything to save their own teams without caring about their viewers. Nobody can tell me it is better to show a 10 min show "sorry no games today" then waiting additional 1 hour. In most other sports this is unthinkable.
Startale tweeted like an hour ago they were looking forward to the match and hoped the fans would cheer them on etc typical korean tweet etc. But they have removed it now

Well, thanks to Wax, we have a significantly more important question on our hands that no investigative journalism can get a faster answer for: Is everyone OK?
This is absolutely terrible timing though. The betting scandal, no WCS handbook, and now this. Makes the SC2 scene seem really unprofessional. Oh well hopefully it blows over and we have some great games in 2015.

You mean with the people in the accident? ST-Yoe people are just stuck in the traffic caused by it
So they were stuck behind a car accident? How are they supposed to be held accountable for that? It's PL that needs to be held accountable for the moral breakdown of DQ'ing Startale

Well, didn't that happen quite often already and they just delayed the games? I mean, I remember multiple games where someone arrived late and they just gave the team that was there in time 1 def win - but not an entire series...

This just sucks for everyone, especially for fans that wanted to watch it live in Korea. I would have prefered if they were more understanding and gave them like 1 loss for every 10 minutes late.

Maybe it's unclear/ going to take forever for ST-Yoe to get out of the traffic. KeSPA/ SpotTV not giving any information
My Korean is quite bad still, from what I can understand Legend is apologizing and saying that they were departing at the normal time they always do, when they need to go to Proleague, but they were surprised by the snow and then the accident in the tunnel. It seems that authorities reacted quite slow to the accident, so a massive traffic jam was the result. They communicated with the KeSPA referee and accepted the defwin as there was no chance of getting to the Arena in time.

It's actually not hard to understand Kespa's stance here. I am pretty sure the logic behind this strict rule was to ensure that the teams are always on time so that the live broadcast runs smoothly. It is strict, but otherwise teams would have little incentive to be one time. All it takes are few instances when the broadcasts are late and it would still ruin the professional image of Kespa. Swarmhosts are part of the game, so it's not Kespa's fault, but tardiness is one of the key features of a terrible host, especially with the high standard of the Korean public.
Also, I think the guy at the arena said that the judgement was up to the referee or sth. If that's true, it's the referee's fault here. I'm guessing the SSL qualifiers had a more lenient referee?

Nobody expects them to sentence NO punishment at all. But cancelling an entire series just seems too harsh. Especially considering there was only one series scheduled today instead of 2. And almost EVERYONE accepts a delay because of a traffic accident. In almost every sport that's an accepted excuse, as far as I know.
And I just can't get did of the feeling that the ruling would have been different, if there was one of the big kespa-teams involved.
I remember that EG-TL arrived late one time for Proleague and got to start with a 0-1 disadvantage against Woongjin Stars (then they won the match thanks tp Stephano). Why couldn't they do that this time ? Starting a show one hour late is not that bad and everyone would have understood. I will never understand KeSPA.
But you see, KeSPA is willing to prevent a ex-eSF team from advancing at all costs, for any reason.

Kespa apparently thought they should have done this, maybe the just said "Life finds a way".
How can anybody in their right mind do something like this?
Hilarious to see Kespa completely award a walkover to Jinair. Just goes to show how afraid they are of ex-eSF teams completely showing them up. ST-yoe beat Jinair in round robin and likely would have done so again, and so due to no fault on their part (a car accident that in a narrow stretch of tunnel that never could have been foreseen or planned ahead for) they get eliminated. Yep, that action pretty much sums up Kespa to me in a nutshell.
People like to complain about Kespa i guess. They asbolutely did the right thing, it simply doesn't matter if Startale could have done something differently, they didn't show up... "just delay the match", yeah i am sure it's completely reasonable to delay everything when the schedule is probably pretty tight there. We are talking about spotv, not some relatively flexible streaming platform. It sucks that we don't get the games, but to argue that "it's kespa's fault and Kespa evil bla bla bla" is really weird and stupid.

I'am agree. There is rules and it's must to be equal for everyone. Proleague isn't online tournament for $1,000 prizepool. It's TV show, that must be aired in time. One side of the today games are violating the rules, so punishment is ok. Or next time every team can be late with some reasons. I don't think that Kespa must to be ashame for the ST delay.
For today i cheered for ST and waited the games online like everyone here.

The schedule is tight? For a Bo9 series that could go all 9 games, where every match could conceivably last half an hour, and that's completely disregarding any technical difficulties that could come up? That's your theory?
I've never seen a KeSPA event get shut down or postponed because there wasn't enough time to close it out, and you're suggesting they couldn't have waited for a traffic jam to get resolved? Lol. If time is really that tight, dock a point from ST for every half hour they miss. Do something. But don't just play it off like it couldn't matter less.
If they got confirmation from ST that the traffic jam is so bad, they won't be able to get to the studio for another 5 hours, guaranteed, then SAY THAT IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT. Transparency isn't rocket science.

If they got confirmation from ST that the traffic jam is so bad, they won't be able to get to the studio for another 5 hours, guaranteed, then SAY THAT IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT. Transparency isn't rocket science.
It is tight cause tomorrow there is already the next match. So the games HAVE TO be played today no matter what. It is tight cause even when they have some extra time here and there (cause they can't know how many games are needed) you still have to start around the expected time for it to work. I agree about the transparency, maybe that would stop some of the stupid "hate" here.

The schedule is tight? For a Bo9 series that could go all 9 games, where every match could conceivably last half an hour, and that's completely disregarding any technical difficulties that could come up? That's your theory?

Um, quite simply, they couldn't, and frankly, to am extent, shouldn't care less... They are a legitimate business running a professional tournament with guidelines, rules, and regulations. When a player or team breaks any of these, consequences are adhered to. Welcome to the world of order and civilization... if there is bad weather, plans must be made to leave early.
Did you know that you can get fired from your job for being late to work? Even if there is a traffic jam or a blizzard, a company has every right to uphold their guidelines for what is acceptable in their workplace. If there is rush hour traffic, a blizzard, construction, a traffic accident, etc, the individual (or in this case, the team) is responsible for making the proper arrangements to leave on time. Oh, and btw, your company does not have to provide you with proper transparency. (Of course transparency goes all long way in the promotion of PR)
It takes me 22 minutes to commute to work everyday. I leave no later than 45 minutes before my shift to ensure an OK time arrival. If I make an appointment during rush hour, I leave extremely early to ensure promptness. For a professional not to do so is absurd.
I also was sad that I stayed up on my day off to watch JinAir play and the match wasn't played, but shit happens and we live.

Why couldn't they do that this time ? Starting a show one hour late is not that bad and everyone would have understood. It's not lile StarTale was responsible at all, there was an accident in a tunnel -__-
I will never understand KeSPA.
That was one player arriving late , as opposed to the whole team arriving late . (Liquid HerO)
I'd say Kespa should not be faulted at all here. They just followed a rule book. It is a cultural thing that Koreans do. They strictly adhere to rules because without rules and enforcement, teams can just think they can be late and get away with it. Kespa is just making an example out of Startale. Next time, the manager should think ahead and account for things like weather and traffic. If this was truly as important to them as they claim, they should have gotten some hotel rooms near the venue. This was 100% Startale's fault for not logically thinking of all possible delays and either trying to prevent them (if can be) or avoiding them.
The reason Asians are so economically successful is because they go by the book and enforce all laws. Bending the rules would put a disruption in the flow of things and cause delays and mishaps, slowing things down. Rules are rules and you can't go against them. If Startale makes it to playoffs next time, they better make damn sure that they avoid things like snow and traffic. This forfeit could have been easily prevented by simply getting some hotel rooms near the venue. Tsk tsk Startale.
