dates for ro8 groups are wrong in Liquipedia (as mentioned in it) so I really hope the grandfinal isnt at 13-16th march as supposed to be (IEM $120k tournament). I hope for 28th march because SSL grandfinal is at 21th.

look at these players, ofc there will be sick groups!
Who do you guys think will be the first pick? I think either Terminator or MC tbh
MC's the winner of this Code S season, so whoever picks him makes a great mistake. Btw your sig will stay like that for 1 year iirc? That's rough man ):

If MC wins this season of Code S i will switch to passionstone -.- Well, he (dodgin) can do with it whatever he wants for one year, so i guess there will be changes ^^
How are these groups done, do we know? Is it that the top 4 seeds select a player and then it goes down the chain? GSL has done it that way for a while right?
What I'm really asking is whether Innovation gets to choose first

He basically is. Though, I do think Dark is better than Rogue ever was.
Dark went from underrated consistent code S Zerg that got overshadowed by soO and Soulkey , to being just slightly overrated at the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015. Brenden was the first to hype him and then Artosis joined in to a greater extent (not a good sign).
Seems incredibly solid in ZvT and very good in ZvP. His ZvZ is still a bit of a mystery, but probably good even with a recent loss in SPL.

Add MC, Rogue, MMA
Pff, Rogue can totally do it TY should be able to do it imo. But oh well, we will see it soon enough haha

I think it is AT LEAST safe to say that none of them are/were as good as Life, Soulkey or soO, (Even TRUE was better than them (once) )
Will probably be picked among the first-tier: Yoda, MC
The Dark hype is astronomical. I'm not ready to count Solar out until he bombs in the gsl, could just be an SPL thing. Soulkey's fine guys, really. Dream hasn't done a whole lot to convince me he's gotten over his TvT problem and his TvP wasn't quite as impressive as his TvZ, Yonghwa should have beaten him.

Real contenders I think are: Dark, Life, Innovation and Maru (yeah, no protoss)
Rain and herO should also be contenders for the title, also Rain and soulkey should also technicially be at tier 1
yeah, I wasn't sure if i should tune down hero and parting or tune up SK and Rain. Dark is def tier 1 I think.. he just doesn't play overseas but everyone is afraid of him and I hear he is top on KR ladder.

Yeah that's the one. Okay he's not as bad. But seriously, he's not not even top 3 of race. I wouldn't say he's even been that great. He just happened to make it pretty far in some pretty big tournaments. And WCS Finals was like, totally meaningless. Not to discredit MMA or anything, but when MMA gets 2nd place, there is something wrong... Of course, Life went on to win it, which makes perfect sense.

herO just tilted and Polt just randomly threw, no big deal, Classic, you're not even top-3. Oh, Classic, sorry, that you randomly killed PartinG, Maru and soO to win Code S and was tearing Proleague apart since your switch to Protoss.

Because Classic is the hero we deserve, but not the one we need right now. So we'll hate and underate him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a dutiful cannonrusher. A Fan favourite destroyer. A Chin Toss.

Oh, and TaeJa sucks because no results in GSL, we know. Because totally meaningless.
herO just tilted and Polt just randomly threw, no big deal, Classic, you're not even top-3. Oh, Classic, sorry, that you randomly killed PartinG, Maru and soO to win Code S and was tearing Proleague apart since your switch to Protoss.
And Seed was probably best Protoss in the world when he won Code S.
But okay, if Bogus-Maru-Rain-Life are going to choose first, then I'm calling something like that:
Didn't everyone think Seed would lose at every stage of his gsl run when he did it :D
Byun had no rights to lose to Seed but it's not like MC would have won that season if Byun came to finals. Honestly, probably closest Prime members ever were to winning classic Code S.
pssh, had DRG made it to Busan Life would never have become relevant
is it weird to think that DRG's peak was 3 years ago?
it was, which is what im talking about, realize how crushed he was failing to make it to Busan in both GSTL and GSL, had he made it, he prob would have gone on a ridiculous reign for at least another few months, maybe actually winning that iron squid or making it to blizz cup finals for example.

My..god...now that is a scary group
Switch PartinG with herO or Rain, they are better than PartinG
Or just kick out the Protoss players altogether and add Maru in the 4th slot.
Just as badass, but more fun :x
Thats actually better, makes it easier for the protosses (Rain, herO, PartinG) to win since two of INnoVation, Maru, Life or Dark (3 god tier, one demi-god tier) will be knocked out

I think PartinG is in the tier below. As much as I love him he's not of the same class as the other players. Although he is capable of beating some of the higher tier players like Maru (duh). Same goes for Soulkey. Not totally convinced. I also think Rain and Maru should be switched but based on recent results I won't really fight over it.
Anyway hopefully Rain wins this season. I also want to see a Life vs Inno showdown to determine the best player in the world.

PartinG has essentially been a top-tier protoss since early 2012. He's a Nestea Award recipient and made ro16+ all of last year. He has a comparable win rate to the protoss in his tier. I might even consider him more solid overall than herO, who's only ever made 1 code S ro8 and even fell out of the gsl in s3 last year. For a player of herO's caliber, he seems to have a glaring weakness in PvP. PartinG does not have any obvious flaws imo. Not to mention, he has the best micro of any protoss. Unlike Rain, he also made both Korean leagues for 2015. All together I think he's earned his keep.
Soulkey is just off a semi-final at IEM (beat Rain along the way). Despite what people say, I thought he had a good 2014 as well. Didn't win anything, but he only played in Korea where he was very consistent. He's extremely tenacious as well which is an important quality in this type of tournament.

If PartinG can avoid getting into group with more than 1 Zerg, he will be in Ro8. Having top-2 PvT and finally finding some groove in PvP again is no joke. If he randomly going to get both Dark and Solar, let's say, then I won't bet on him at all.
These are my rankings, I'll admit to being a bit of a Maru fanboy, don't really know if he really deserves a place on top but god I just love watching this guy play Starcraft II!
I've based these prediction around who I would think would be favored if they met in proleague which means I haven't taken the different BO situation in account. Yoda and Dream are both on the cusp of going up a rank but since they are mostly profficient at certain matchups I kept them as you see them.

Very agreed, but I don't see many players picking MC. Maybe Rain, maybe Maru, maybe Life. That's it. herO certainly ain't picking him after the narrow 2-3 at Blizzcon, and not a lot of Terrans would have the balls to pick a Protoss who became the highest earner in SC2 pretty much exclusively off of 1 and 2-base all ins. That's just asking for trouble.
I much sooner see Life picking Yoda/MMA, Inno picking Dream, and Maru picking Terminator... apart.

There are often some pretty stupid choices in these selections though. Any given player may pick MC for any particular random reason.

> classic Code S. It took me a good two weeks tbh, as biggest sOs fanboy, to realise that technically he won GSL. Not Code S though, but GSL no matter what.

Consistency factored in heavily to my rank with more weight given to recent results.
That makes sense. I can't wait to see how the groups pan out. Even the top tier players have matchups they might want to avoid. I think Rain is capable of beating Life, PartinG beating Maru, and herO beating Innovation.
If PartinG can avoid getting into group with more than 1 Zerg, he will be in Ro8. Having top-2 PvT and finally finding some groove in PvP again is no joke. If he randomly going to get both Dark and Solar, let's say, then I won't bet on him at all.
With Solar's form lately, PartinG should be over to walk over him, but Dark dismantled him 0-3 in NSSL, so yeah

I much sooner see Life picking Yoda/MMA, Inno picking Dream, and Maru picking Terminator... apart.

MC is a GOD in himself, but he shouldn't be a big threat to players like INnoVation, Life, Rain or Maru. But still you shouldn't count him out, I mean same as Classic in last year's Season 2 GSL, nobody thought he would win in that stacked GSL, and guess what? he did. I just think we should just keep an eye out for MC.

There are often some pretty stupid choices in these selections though. Any given player may pick MC for any particular random reason.
Of course anything can happen, I'm just responding to FMW's claim that MC will probably be one of the first players picked. I can think of a better first pick for just about every player there, so I suspect it isn't that probable. Maybe Yoda would pick him, vsMC is his best head-to-head.

yeah like how PartinG picked Maru for GSL Ro16 S3 Last year, just so he wouldn't build Group of Death with an On form Flash (he still got the Group of death though)

MC has a winning record against Yoda
Not according to Aligulac.
"Under these filters, MC is 6–11 (35.29%) in games and 1–5 (16.67%) in matches against YoDa."
And his one series win was before the WM buff last year.

She's asking them all to say a sentence beginning with each of the characters of their name.
PartinG appeals to Innovation's intelligence and says "pick me." Not sure what being smart had to do with it, but I love their budding rivalry. That would be the third time they land in the same ro16 group since 2013. First time both got out, second time INno got out at PartinG's expense.
Looks like PartinG wants to be in INnoVation's group.
PartinG is telling INnoVation to do what he says and it'll work out. INnoVation is laughing. PartinG says if INnoVation picks him then (INnoVation) he will advance to the RO8, and PartinG will pick the person INnoVation wants. INnoVation isn't buying it.

Terminator doing it the Ensnare way (weak player picking other weak players and qualifying ^^)
- Someone picks you and then you say "Oh, wait, I have a call for you." On speed-dial and speaker phone you've got a psychologist on the other side.
- You find an exact lookalike of a player likely to pick you, when he is about to pick you, that person runs in and screams "I am [players name] from the future! Don't do it!!!!"
- Every time a player starts speaking you start to cackle maniacally until they stop talking. Then you just do it over and over again.
- You sit and stare at a laptop the entire ceremony. Then when someone asks what you're doing you just calmly say that you're going to break Pinnacle again with the massive bets on yourself.

It's not even all-ins at this point, rofl. He literally is going to play against top-1 and top-2 PvT in the world, that's lights out even for Maru. And on top of this there is MC.

Ok prediction time (we don't know the match order yet do we?) : Group A : INnoVation, MMA Group B : Life, Soulkey Group C : Dream, Rogue Group D : Maru, MC
Just like Starleague, the person who can switch players tries to get rid of herO by putting him in the protoss group Hope he makes it through this time, after coming so close in NSSL.

They confirmed INno vs Terminator is the first series of ro16, so it's 1v2 and 3v4 for sure.

Even the Korean commentators said that Group B wasn't a group of death.

This. This switch thing is a joke and a shame. Here it's basically INnoVation saying "oh, you know that thing called bracket luck, that can make or break someone's title? Well, I'll make herO and Maru's chances to win go down to almost zero".

Jesus christ Group D. Well Maru only has to prepare for one matchup but I could see PartinG and MC abusing him a little. And herO gets to face his demons against arguably the two most aggressive protoss.
Happy for Rain though. Barring some miraculous upsets he has an easy time in that group.
People bitching about the switch option should bitch about groups and brackets in general i guess? If you want it fair you should write some emails to GOM and ask for a big round robin group with all 16 players, if that's not going to happen there is little meaning to bitch about 2 players switching groups tbh. I think it adds a lot of excitement and even storyline (if they would use it) Silly to be upset about somethimg like this imo...
Ok now prediction time:

If you really want to add a lot of excitement and storyline, why not make players have a knife fight to decide who picks first? There's a reason seeds exist. There's a reason INno, Maru, Rain and Life got asked to choose first and not Terminator, MMA, YoDa and MC. It's precisely to limit (not avoid, because you can't, but limit) bracket luck/groups of death. Here GOM gave INnoVation an opportunity to troll and lower the chances of two/three of his most direct rivals for the title to win. It's not silly. I mean creating excitement and hype and all is good. But not when it is done at the expense of fairness and equality.
Nobody bitched (i think, not 100% sure) when we got 2 groups of death in gsl when the players were crazy. In general players picking the groups is "unfair". Why don't you criticize that? Sry, but i don't see why this is that big of a deal, you either practice for your group and advance, or you aren't good enough and fail. The only thing i would like to see changing is the gsl group system, that shit is unfair...
Players picking the groups is indeed unfair to some extent, but at least it only gives one player the option of picking the opponent is better for him and only for him, so at least it's not "oh hey, let's lower this player chances of qualifying, 'cuz I don't like him". The switch option is precisely that, a trollish way to fuck up others' chances to win (and since it was given only to the current Code S champion, it's a rich gets richer system as well).

It is unfair but adds a lot of excitement and even storyline (if they would use it).
I actually don't think it adds excitement and storyline at all. In a round robin you can have crazy tie breakers (like in the current SSL), that shit is exciting. But yeah nice try

I mean i can understand where you are coming from, i just think players picking their groups and the group system in general is a way bigger deal.

But in GSL style you are not dependant on other people's results, while in RR you can be.

That's not true at all. In GSL style you can have a bad first matchup, go into losers, win there vs a lesser player and in the deciding match you get your first opponent again. Now you lose vs the same person two times and are out. You are in fact highly dependant on the other people's results. In round robin you play vs every other opponent and have full controll

Well yeah but players picking their groups and the group system is an long-established GOM tradition, thus it is less useful to complain about it than the switch option that is newly introduced. I mean if GOM had made its free Low quality bullshit since the beginning, few people would complain as well.

I dunno, I dislike RR because things like Naniwa vs Nestea can happen. But well, I think the RR vs GSL argument is an unending one.

No, you are heavily dependent on others as well. The outcome of some groups would be radically different with just one different result in one of the initial matches
Honestly I think INnoVation switched PartinG and Solar around to get rid of Maru. In my opinion, Maru is the only real threat to Inno, his TvT is his weakest mu and in the past Maru has bopped Inno before (OSL). Looking at recent results PartinG is pretty solid versus Maru and is so a good pick to eliminate him.
IMO, choosing your own opponents is one thing, it's being able to switch any other two players that's the problem. If Innovation could only switch himself with someone then that would be ok. Then the only way he would be able to make a group of death would be by putting himself in it.

and it helps Dream, was just the perfect move from robogus. the software definitely includes group selection now
I don't think it was good enough to spend 90 hours minutes watching the VODs when you know the results, but I usually feel that way about group selections

90 hours? :O there must've been some seriously careful planning on these picks lol thanks
Am I the only one who thinks Inno didn't put a lot of thought into his decision to switch Solar and PartinG? It seemed like he had no clue what to do with his switch and just did the one thing people (Solar and PartinG both) seemed to want.
It certainly helps him that he will either get rid of some Protoss with excellent PvT, or an aggressive TvTer, and is helping a weak TvTer get through on the other side of the bracket... but I'm leaning towards this all being a lucky byproduct.

Wasn't PartinG trying to get him to do exactly that? Maybe he thought it was a mind game

You mean PartinG literally said these things ("you'll get rid of strong PvTers or an aggressive Terran") while pitching the plan? If so, I must have missed it. I don't think I heard a single translation of why he wanted to switch, other than to put MC in his place.
I don't think Innovation cared that much for the switch. He probably was just feeling sympathetic for Dream, so tossed him the easiest Zerg instead of Parting. I definitely think SKT has a very solid chance for Ro8 -> Finals.
