I'm not sure Maru would have survived game 7 even if he had built a functional wall. His opening was pretty greedy, and it isn't like he had plenty of units waiting behind the wall.

Possibly, he would have died anyway, but failing to build a full wall-in in the first place is certainly a mistake you simply cannot make in a deciding map and he immediately got punished for it.

So you're disagreeing that it's a good foreign tournament for Maru, or are you disagreeing that it shows -some- sign of relative weakness in Life? Do remember that you predicted a very stompy Life vs Maru finals, which is quite far from what you got. I wouldn't be surprised if Life continued his domination, but I would equally not be surprised if it turned out that this series was the start/continuation of people beginning to get better against him. I don't see how that's an insane idea to comprehend.

I think you're grossly overestimating the significance of Maru playing a good series against Life, yes. Remember, this is hardly the first time Life has been brought to the brink of elimination by another player only to get his shit together and win 2, 3, 4 (even 5 at one point I think) games in a row in confident and collected fashion. Maru played very well, I think he played above his level and managed to find the cracks you can exploit in Life's armor if he's good enough, but Life adapted and ironed out the chinks like he always does. This series didn't display weakness, it showed why Life is the best player in the world (peerless adaptability, mental composure and top-level skill in every aspect of the game) and Maru isn't, and I would much sooner intepret the finals as a sign of unabated strength than impending doom.

Lol. Maru didn't play "above his level."

Awesome finals once again proving for good sc2 action, its better to have a TvT or TvZ than anything with protoss. Not saying they are imba, just not as exciting to watch.
However, I feel that the pause was, what changed the last game. Losing 3 reapers... and oh my god that hole in the wallup... Maru?

I must have watched another game then.
We have seen impressive holds by Maru over and over again, and these series were not less impressive.
In lots of cases you could say, that no other terran out there could have done that.
Sure mistakes were made on both sides (I am still not sure if Zerg isn't a little bit more forgiving when it comes to mistakes, since the macro works so different within the 2 races, but I am not saying anything about balance here, cause where there might be an advantage for the zerg, on the other side there is one for the Terran), but saying Life is above Maru, when Maru compeletely wrecked Life in 2 Games with a slow, macro oriented push, while he himself lost to all-inish moves...

If Maru isn't top although doing what almost no other Terran can do, then I don't know who is...

Life is impressive, I always knew that from the first time I saw him. It was like "oh look, a Zerg who not just A-Moves but micros, he will win tournaments very soon"

Regardless it's one hell of a final, I mean the amount of battle of micros and multitask is unbelievable, at times the observer simply couldn't follow everything on the battles that happen in multiple places.

I pick up something in this final though, the 3 games Maru wins, it involves banshees. If I remember correctly forGG also did quite bit of trouble with banshee to Life in DH winter final too. Could this be a chink in Life's armor? His blindside?

Overall being a fan of both players, I think Life won the mental battle, possibly due to his careless confidence attitude and more experience in foreign tournaments.

On another note, Life learned that Maru tend to do proxy and he respect that by scouting early in every game. While I feel Maru doesn't learn that Life does counter attack and ling run by more than any other zerg in the world.
