Astrea is an up-and-coming 2baser who beat Scarlett in the qualifiers, so don't count him out at all.
Oh oh OK. Guess I'll stick with that prediction even though it's probably wrong, I hate Protoss 2 basers and betting against them is the most I can do to fight their retardedness.
Andre's been streaming SC2 for the past month or so, but I'm pretty sure Poker is still his thing. So he remembers his Gas Timings, but after subbing in for the weekend, I don't think we'll seeing much more of him.

I didn't expect a lot from him, I just wasn't around when he casted much so I never really heard him much before. He's very flat, quiet even.

foxtrot is not an easy map to position on against someone with the cute micro and multitasking chops of qxc. really strong play, solid defense and map control and then a brutal counterattack. leaving the banelings at home was a great idea
Ugh, that move by Kane is what i hate the most when i get TvZ as random.
If you go back and defend, you still lose 1 or maybe even 2 CC#s and the Zerg sits on 4 base and simply wins with economy. If you go and attack you get overwhelmed by 100 banes while you lose all CC's, production and co to Mutas at your base :S

Yeah I main terran and that move just SUCKS. It leaves the terran with no good choices.

The key is to just place a marine or mine in the attack path.

If you scout it early enough you can get back in time without losing anything (watch Taeja for how to do this well--its how he murders Life almost every single time they play) and if you are quick enough you can trap the zerg if they commit to the counter. You shouldn't lose your fourth anyway; it's generally pretty sloppy to float it out without being 100% sure that it'll be safe until it morphs into a PF.

Ah ok. I see what you're saying. Taeja puts lone marines at key points all around the map and then if they die to a large army, he moves his whole army back as well.
What a stomp. Kane's build orders have been insanely solid, and qxc's control was slightly off, and most of all Kane just had the right reads and decisions.
sad for qxc, but he was stomped pretty decisively in two fairly straightforward games. kane is a great player, but he's not a life or soo where you can just say "ok, mismatch." i think qxc wanted to be beating guys like kane and ascending on NA, but he wasn't getting it done. hope to see him again

rotti and nate do it with another class of professionalism though. no ego and self absorbed in jokes, just quality. both are appropriate for what they do and wouldn't suit each other's place in the scene

This was one of the series that both impresses me and makes me worry for the winner. He obviously outclassed qxc, and was never off his rhythm. But what will happen when he faces a player that can disrupt his play and force him to takes blows as well as deliver them? Its a very different set of skills, and one that isn't honed as well by ladder.

Bwah, he's Canadian. I'm not worried
I'll beat you with a hockey stick. Wearing my skates becasue you stole my other footwear.
Today, I learned that hockey is really dangerous for other people.
One of my fondest memories from my childhood was watching 2 girls in hockey gear beat up a drunk guy with their sticks after he grabbed them on the ass. I must have laughed for an hour. Hockey is amazing, even when it's not actively being hockey.

Today, I learned that hockey is really dangerous for other people.
One of my fondest memories from my childhood was watching 2 girls in hockey gear beat up a drunk guy with their sticks after he grabbed them on the ass. I must have laughed for an hour. Hockey is amazing, even when it's not activiely being hockey.

It's not as if Polt is simply a passive force himself.

puCK has been out-engaging Guitarcheese the whole while, but the economic edge is really against him. Guitarcheese doesn't have any tech against templar though.
Guitarcheese does not try to spread creep and lost 50% of his army in an attack before the other half was even close to his opponents base (when he maxed out the first time) =O and somehow he is still in the game ^^
Can't believe that commentary... It's been how many months now in which we have seen those 3base mass stalker/sentry macro builds that have no problem combating roach/hydra?
On January 25 2015 09:19 SetGuitarsToKill wrote: Well, units with micro potential > units wiht no micro potential
To be fair a lot of why Puck has been doing well is because he's been cutting off Guitarcheese's concave and creating a better concave himself. Guitarcheese could be doing that but Puck seems to be a lot better at anticipating his opponent's positioning.
Stalkers a my number one most feared/hated unit.. i cannot even tell you how often i lost vs Protoss that just massed stalkers. As a Zerg you need to work reaaaally hard to kill blinkstalker-only armys.

It's a leftover from the days when casters managed to convince people that roach/hydra countered gateway units. That mostly happens because the zerg is usually so far ahead in supply when the fight happens that protoss just gets overwhelmed. At equal army supply, 3+ blink stalkers can clown on roach/hydra all day. You need ultra/infestor or swarm hosts to deal with this many blink stalkers.

I have the impression that Terran would be a lot better at all-inning in that environment. And would have a 40% winrate in the match-up.

Those games doesnt make sense.... GuitarCheese is always sooo far behind in supply.. Even when both players are just macroing, doing nothing guitarcheese has always 5/10 supply less than the protoss player D:
it was pretty simple actually.. guitarcheese suicided a lot of shit to kill the third but not much of puck's army.. he would've won easy if he sacked the gold to buy time for SH and more units cuz puck was allin. instead he got needlessly greedy and lost cuz he didn't have time to remake enough stuff.

He is not making enough drones. He was on 55 v 65 harvesters most of that game. He was effectively all in with the hydra/ling attacks. He did kill the third but lost his entire army, so Puck just walked over him.
Walking your hosts up and burrowing in front of archons isn't a great idea either.

TvT has a tendency to sometimes make people only a little bit apart in skill look like a Bronze vs. GM match. (For example, see any game Bunny ever plays against any Korean terran ever.) The weird thing is the other half of the time two players far apart in skill look almost even.

Semper plays on EU and is fairly high GM. He really hasn't had a chance to show his A-game yet, G1 was unlucky drop timing, and G2 was just a straight up slaughter. Hard to really say how he's playing. Polt being a monster doesn't help his cause either

Really, I won't think bad of Semper, things like this happened. I mean he qualified finely for Challenger, maybe with a bit of luck, but who cares. I think he is better than what is shown today.

True, but one bo3 in qualifiers shouldnt be an indicator of overall ability. I watched those games too, and to me at least polt just looked off that day. Kane is a great player and i think he can do really well, but at the end of the day this is Polt, and I think we all know that if Polt plays to his true ability, everyone else is toast.

He didn't play Hydra though... The guy who is actually going to be the champ
Well ok, youre probably right my point was Polt is top 2 in potential ability. and ill all probability he will only lose when he plays Hydra.
why do protoss players try to play into the late game vs players like scarlett or snute who are rly good with unit control and sh? why not just finish them off before they can make snutehosts?

gold bases early like that are actually extremely bad and that attack was never going to work even if astrea went afk. scarlett just macro.... your macro is so much stronger.

Weird that Scarlett didn't really react to the oracle. She saw it with both an overlord and a ling. If Astrea had controlled better it could have been really bad.
Being a while since I watched some sc2 soooo.. Do zerg not even try stuff now ? They go roach hydra for defense into swarmhost " I don't want to lose but i'm not really interested in winning either" ? :o

Nice. I guess the map here is just very advantageous for that.

try what stuff? aggressive "stuff"? generally lair or prelair aggression is easily shut down with forcefields which we just saw in game 2. alsp scarlett is the player who beat parting with a 1 base burrow roach proxy hatch allin so yes she will "try stuff"

the viper? or swarmhosts spawning creeps?
both. The swarmhost is the rax constantly spawning units to attack. The vipers are the hero units. She even made 10 of them to die. Too bad they dont respawn in sc2.
I'm really enjoying how chill the stream is by the way
Gretorp and Nathanias are nice. No unneeded screaming, not trying to fill every silence moment, etc Very relaxing to watch. Usually I have to mute streams because the casting tire me out lol
these straight into swarm host strategies are so bad... Astrea just does whatever the fuck he wants and you should never let that happen with a Protoss.

she can still make things work but the map is super not in her favor. Protoss can expand everywhere.

The longer this game goes, the more favored Protoss, is, and this is going super long from here.
I don't understand swarmhost games anymore, it seems like the Protoss now has thousand ways to counter it. And it's all so relaxing, you don't seem to need to be an elite player to pull it off, it's all tactics and less execution.

Scarlett is not playing to her usual level, usually a swarm host player needs to do ling/hydra attacks to be able to get half the map without dying to warp prism harras.

Swarmhosts were never Neo bl/infestor. They were always beatable.
As someone who almost exclusively watches the korean scene....Why are these casters acting like a mothership+ tempests is a strange thing to do vs swarnhosts? Isn't this completely standard?

Going swarmhosts works if you control the game with them. Letting the Protoss do anything they want was never a good strategy. From the start the top Protoss players could usually beat swarmhosts which is why it didn't become as ubiquitous in Korea as the foreign scene. By now most Protosses know how to beat it. Not that its easy even now.

I was being mostly sarcastic. There were a few really crazy good games, though, and it was always funny at least. Probably more entertaining than this.

I actually think, destiny might has overlooked something. It is true that zerg has no way to deal with uber-late game army if controlled properly, however...the only reason they can tech up to it is, because zerg does not pressure with current swarmhost. Hopefully the new swarmhosts with all their harassment and forcefield counter potential will force much more scrappier late games.
And this is why I don't play HOTS ladder... Vipers are stupid.
Zerg needs a good end-game unit, like Broodlords were in WOL. Vipers are not that, they just have a skilless pull ability that just allows your crappy tier 2 units to isolate and overwhelm tier 3 units, making tier 3 useless, removing variety from the game.

I don't like queens in that comp much. Against colossus they just die, and if you have enough corruptors to wipe out the colossus presence, there's other ways to win.

Seems like a lot of players are retiring lately. Seems like SC2 will turn into a niche esport until LoTV. Doesn't matter to me as long as there is a healthy and competitive Korean scene. At least there are still some very good European foreigners.
Though, honestly, it's awesome that Astrea is back. He was the biggest up-and-comer in the region at about this time last year, but his hype train essentially ended when Illusion stopped him in Challenger. He was inactive for a while, but Max Angel is in Global Premier and is one hell of a dark horse.
Wow that was some bad play. A mostly NA wcs should have been easy money for scarlett, but it looks like all that dota caused her play to drop off a cliff.

Yeah she will probably come back just like MK and Naniwa did. I'm sure most of the pros that left for HoTS will be back eventually for LoTV. You need a change of pace when the results aren't going your way.

At least the average level of play is way higher.
Just a single example. Flash failing to construct a wall, Roro going 10-pool Bane and promptly running them all into a hatch, Paralyze's MSC, Solar's whatever-the-hell-that-was against Byul in Proleague, Heart's epitomized tunnel-vision against Super last night - the mistakes Koreans make are SO MUCH BIGGER than anything a foreigner makes, online or off. They simply make fewer overall mistakes and have an esports infrastructure that's so, so, so much more advanced.

I disagree with your first statement, hence the examples. And while the average level of play may be higher, I believe that this is merely indicative of how big of a leg up Korea gets on the rest of the planet. But I know better than to prolong this argument for no benefit.

sucks that scarlett dropped out, but i guess if she doesn't beat astrea she doesn't really deserve it... but at the same time with the way astrea played against her swarm hosts i'm not sure how far he's going to go against zerg anyway.
never really understood why so many people seem to dislike scarlett. the most common reason i see is something like "her fans are annoying/overrate her" which is like... welcome to any popular and skilled player? idk, seems like there's more to cheer for than to dislike. she balance whines sometimes, but so does taeja
Seems about right. Even as a big fan I was very close to picking Astrea, I actually expected him to win, but it felt too wrong. I had a little bit of hope that Scarlett would try but I guess that was proven wrong wasn't it?

excited for kane though
As someone, who disliked her for quite some time, I might comment on that: Her hype was one of the more annoying ones to begin with: Some people called her one of the top foreigners directly after IPL 4, on the base of beating TeriousPrime and Demuslim and taking a game of Oz, which seemed not really a good basis for that call. A week later, she lost a Showmatch to Kas 2-5, but noone seemed to really notice that. Then after Stephano retired, people started to call her "the best foreigner", when there was no question about Naniwa being the no.1 in 2013 and Snute being the number 1 in 2014. Overhype is, on it's own, not a good enough reason to dislike a player, but it's certainly a factor. Also casters, who were commentating her games, seemed to be under the impression, that everyone had to be a fan of her, which I saw no reason to.
Another factor was, that her playstyle could be really annoying at times; I've ssen more than one game, where she took rather huge early game damage, continued to tutrle up with 7-8 spine-crawlers and then somehow won with 2-base mutas or something. Legitimate strategy of course, but if you happen to root for the other player, you still feel a bit betrayed. In her early days, there was also a pretty heavy infestor-focus, which is ofc fine, but wasn't that exciting to watch either. In general I think, that her playstyle wasn't attractive to watch for me, I preferred players like Life,Leenock or Vortix.
Lastly (but probably a huge factor) I often found myself annoyed by the content or tone of her posts in here.
All of those factors combined have influenced me to dislike her until the beginning of the second half of 2014. Idk what exactly happened there, but her comments started to be less annoying and more amusing, her fans started to (at least partly) accept the fact, that she is good, but not top shape Stephano/Naniwa/Snute(/Top-Korean)-good and I haven't seen her turtle behind a dozen spine-crawlers for a really long timec (Her constantly high skill is also a huge factor). On top of that, she actually did some really cool stuff (for example 2v2 with Templar), so she wandered into the rather huge pool of players, I don't have anything for or against.
Sad to see her go, though, maybe not a huge loss for me, but a huge loss for the scene. Also with puck and Astrea qaulifying, one of my favorite useless random statistics is now probably not recoverable anymore (For some time Hasu had earned more than all US protoss combined [counting HuK as Canadian)).
Ha ha ha except for the obvious Polt - Semper I managed to predict everything wrong. Didn't expect Scarlett to go down, but from what I read she was not in top shape. I hope she comes back quickly.
Seems about right. Even as a big fan I was very close to picking Astrea, I actually expected him to win, but it felt too wrong. I had a little bit of hope that Scarlett would try but I guess that was proven wrong wasn't it?
I've always done Liquibets with my Heart, and not my Head. Gotta be passionate. I would have definitely picked Astrea otherwise, as he looked quite a bit better in qualifier, and also probably practiced more.

dat 4/4 son. Too bad I did mediocre in WCS EU picks
Wow, I don't remember voting for Astrea, but somehow I did and went 4/4 yesterday as well. I guess that lessens the disappointment of the scarlett loss a bit.
