I think all protoss originated on Aiur, before the split that lead the Dark Templar to change to Shakuras. So it's a defense of the original homeworld. That's my take on it. | ||

Dark Templar are just exiled Protoss that have taken refuge on Shakuras. I'm pretty sure the exile ended after Tassadar sacrificed himself to kill the Overmind.
