The Midwest Cup is an online bi-monthly tournament for all Midwesterners to compete and try to show they are among the best Starcraft 2 players in the Midwest region of the United States. Sound cool already? Register here!

Total prize pool: $200
1st place - $100
2nd place - $60
3rd place - $25
4th place - $15

  • Double elimination with seeding by ladder rank
  • Registration closes at midnight (12:00am CST) the Wednesday before tournament weekend, with the bracket being published by the end of the day on Wednesday
  • The map pool will be the current Battle.net ladder maps, yes this means we’re using the #dreampool! Kappa
  • All games are best of 3, except the grand finals which are best of 5
  • All leagues are accepted and encouraged!

The tournament grand finals will always be on the last Sunday of the month, with up to two days of games before the finals. If there are 32 or more players registered, the tournament will run all three days, Friday to Sunday.

Friday: Nov 28th, start at 00:00 GMT (+00:00), until only 32 players remain
Saturday: Nov 29th, 19:00 GMT (+00:00) to 02:00 GMT (+00:00) (approximate)
Sunday: Nov 30th, finals day, 19:00 GMT (+00:00) to 00:00 GMT (+00:00) (approximate)

To encourage lower league players, we’ll be awarding “top finisher” badges to the players who achieve the highest finish respective of their ladder league. For example, the silver player who makes it the deepest in the tournament will receive a virtual “badge” that recognizes their achievement. Every time a player reaches an even number of badges won, they’ll get a prize paid out to them!
As there will probably be a number of ties for this category, we’ll end up running a side-tournament for any players that tied in their league. Hopefully this system gives players of all skill levels a chance to be competitive at some time throughout the tournament!

All players must live in the Midwest. To verify this, you’ll need to get a picture of your driver’s license (or other government-issued photo ID) and black out the personal information except for your picture, first name, and state. Then include that picture in your registration form. For an example of a good picture that proves residency, check out my lovely mugshot: http://imgur.com/Vq9rzTb

GET HYPED

(on a more serious note, huge props to Nivek for putting his own time/money into this event, he's been working hard to bring more competition to the midwest)

Second that. Huge props. WCS sucks. LotV already sucks. I can only hope it doesn't become a Blizzard event. Nivek >> Blizz.

Cool deal! Midwest represent!
... In life very little goes right. "Right" meaning the way one expected and the way one wanted it. One has no right to want or expect anything.

Sounds really awesome/fun, only thing I'd perhaps look into would be dates/play times... I think most people don't want to enter for 3 days. If you make it all one day I bet you'll get a lot more entries, but it's up to you!

I like the weekend format. It feels like an actual offline tournament that way, and you have more rest and can prepare more.

Hype! And thanks again for all of this!

Hi Kyo, thanks for the feedback!

Scheduling always feels like it's so hard to get in that perfect balance for as many people as possible. As the previous two tournaments have had less than 32 registrants so far, they have only been a Saturday-Sunday affair. I might consider having future events be only two days, but I wanted to be able to get the matches for top 4 in the broadcast. If that was all in one day it might be just too long for everyone involved.

I would like to play. I have been in the midwest for about 7 years, due to being a student (Undergrad in Lincoln, NE, graduate school in Omaha, NE). I am currently still attending school in Omaha, and have a student ID. However, my driver's license is not midwestern, as my official residence is still on the east coast. Are midwestern students allowed to play?

AlphaPancake, I'm down with that! I tried to make the whole "proof of residence" part simple by just mentioning driver's license. However, university ID is also an accepted method. Thanks for the question!
