The Intel Extreme Masters returns to America for the next stop of the circuit, and it is landing in San Jose, California! In this extended qualifier only Three players and one American Champion will be sent to San Jose, California to represent the Americas region. The tournament format is a bit different this time around, but the same idea. It will be two stages for the United States Championship, and 2 Stages for America’s qualifier. But this time Stage 1 for America’s qualifier is 4 individual cups instead of 1. Below is the full information!

Best of 3 in all rounds. Once Round of 4 is reached the matches end, and the 4 players then move to Stage 2.
In a Best of 1, Best of 3 and Best of 5 a map veto (removal and pick) system is used. The high seeded player(seeds can be found at round 1 on the grid page) decides who starts. Players take it in turn removing maps until only one remains in a best of 1 or until only 3 maps remain in a best of 3. Then each player picks a map. Maps are played in order they are picked. The remaining map is played last.

Well, it's a qualifier for a premier tournament, so probably a lot of master/GM players. But that shouldn't discourage you from playing. Even if you get destroyed, it's a chance to play against people who you may not ever play on ladder.

Honestly looks like CatZ is trolling to some extent but he shouldn't get too cocky because his opponent seems to handle the situation quite well.

Tempests are actually a pretty bad unit in head on fights vs anything non massive air. I don't know why these casters are always praising them as so strong, It's really only their range and which makes them ok vs anything non massive air.

Tempests are necessary as well, and some voidrays perhaps, but yeah I think carriers are part of the ultimate deathball cause it makes it so that corruptors HAVE to clump up to target fire or they'll be shooting interceptors

I felt let down by the casting. I am no Kaelaris fan, but very weak insight into the match ups(which is really hard and made obvious when casters cast catz, so ok), but they felt not very focused on the games, on qxc's beautiful positioning or catz' art to force engagements or even just the overarching strategic ideas.
It probably was a very long day, but those were good games, I hope they do them more justice from the quarterfinals and onwards.

Finer details are meant for analysis desk imo, or left up to the individual viewer. People can appreciate great gameplay on their own with the stream on mute, provided good observer. Good casters bring the hype, excitement, and just fun banter during the slower periods of the game.

I am slightly confused with the dates here:
When is the US Qualifier Stage 2 taking place? OP and nationalesl.com say 26th of October yet there's no stream listed for that day and the check-in timer on nationalesl.com states the 26th of November.
also, the given time 4:00 EDT is in the past, yet there are no results on the liquipedia page for stage 2...

That was way too easy for Polt once again. He actually qualified for every single IEM since Shanghai 2013 (except Singapore, cause he didn't try).
And it was pretty optimistic from viOLet to try to qualify today since he is in Korea right now.

don't agree with any backlash for violet. "disappointing" is understandable but anything else is between him and his sponsors/the tournament orgs. bottom line is esports is free entertainment and if the guy was asleep he was asleep. shit happens, no reason to not root for him next time or shit on him

To clear up some confusion, violet is not sick, hes just in korea right now and the tournament being at 4:00 pm EDT was just too early in the morning for him. After his loss to polt he just bowed out and decided to catch some more sleep instead since he was in no shape to defeat polt.
Stage 2 of the Open is at 7:00 pm EDT which will be a much better time for him, so we'll see a much better violet there :D

Every Zerg in this qualifier so far that has faced Mech (3 different players so far) has dropped every game, it isn't just him.

Scarlett should breeze through the lower half, but it's hard to say who else will quaify from the Winner's side - other than Moosegills and Intense, it's quite easy to see anyone on that side qualifying on a good day.

unlikely to be a ddos, because of the nature of it. DDOS would give a big latency consistently. computer issues would be more likely. overheat does that kind of stuff. but I am sure he is playing with low settings anyway.

Live tournament (and the open bracket for said tournament) will happen live in San Jose (in the Sharks' stadium). The qualifiers are all online.

I once watched Curious beat Parting at the end of WoL in the last GSL. At the time Parting's Soul Train was invincible and only 3 players had ever stopped it (Life, Sniper, Suppy).
Curious became the 4th by denying Parting of his nexus first soul train by going 10 pool. Ever since then I've slowly spread the word of the 10 pool until it exploded into naniwa's grizzly death to double 10 pools by Soulkey.
