Rain, let's gogogo, win this and go to Blizzcon, Rain hwaiting, Dont let leaving SKT slow you down, you are still the Best Protoss in the world, gogogo, show your PvP prowess
We need Stats to win the GSL, so we can keep our series of "rising protoss players, who are sooooo talented - champions". Zest and Rain are too strong/accomplished by now to still fit that description.
Zest is so overrated, just pvp at kespa cup, gsl global and gsl s1 2014 (soo is horrible at pvz). So, Zest is good at pvp, granted. You all talk about sOs and TRUE lucky brackets, but look at this fallacy of KT player: just pure pvp at his championship runs (soo sucks at pvz). He fought once against a good terran player (Flash), and he just was rekt.
Tonight, a real player like Rain will unmask the farce that Zest is. Rain 3-1.

Super sick matchups tonight. gonna stay up to watch some of this live this time... Sigh, goddamn recent country viewing restrictions imposed on the Korean YT GSL vods. What a bummer. Staying up from 2am-5am+ every night GSL is on is rough...
It still is the most crazy run to make 3 consecutive finals in a row, and a potential 4th is on the cards. WTF soO, seriously deserves more respect than he gets and also IS the best zerg in the game!

You're too early, we're supposed to forget he exists until he gets to the finals, then predict him to win, and be surprised when he loses like always. Don't break tradition!

idk, I feel like soO does everything except SH regularly. I'm not really a fan of the guy so there are some gaps in my viewing, but every time I've seen his ZvP be plays like a much better version of Hyun. Just masses of hatch/lair units and maybe some ultralisks from time to time.

he had like 3 corruptors there. phoenixes would've all/most of mutas then. Hes best chance was to destroy ground half of the army while phoenixes where away.

He should've bought time to fix his composition; Attacking head on was always a bad decision. It obviously wasn't going to be easy though
Lings must get pretty tired of rubbing themselves all over forcefields, watching all their mates dying, only to find out that when the forcefield drops and they can charge gloriously into battle, waiting for them is a line of cackling gleeful archons.

Also, this game is the reason why pheonix>4gate>robo>third is horribly outdated. The zerg is just free to do whatever he wants for the whole game.

It is true that he can screw up outside of the finals too(losing 3-1 to Super...), but most of the time he is really good.

Kinda true for every race though. Zerg can sac base and back off behind swarm hosts, terran can move up ramp into a great concave and EMP/aoe.
I like having defender's advantage. The problem imo is that 3 base economy is about as strong as 5+ base economy. So basically you have to wait until defending player mines out to get an advantage/win.

I strongly disagree. At that stage of the game what really matters for protoss and zerg is the gas income, not the mineral income.
Of course a 4th (or 5th, or 6th eventually) base in sc2 isn't as strong as in bw, but it's still extremely important to secure one.
edit: @bo1b, game 1 he opened 9pool, did okish damage, then went roach/ling into muta/corruptor. Game 2 he went 3hatch before pool, played greedier because he deflected dt's, and still went roach/ling into muta/corruptor.
lol Tasteless is so unintentionally hilarious sometimes. "i read this funny thing and i'll tell you about it now but i totally forgot the punchline". priceless.
soo is really showing why he consistently makes it far, and stats is showing how you dont prepare for a series. stats has been doing predictable openings and just trying to rely on skill and scouting. There is no world where stats should have not proxy 2 gated on nimbus after soo's g1/g2 builds and the way he was being outclassed and got a win off two bad engagements of soo.. It would have been a build order win and messed with soo's mindset for g4. Soo has been doing different openings, tricky tech switches and really knows how to play a series.

I was referring to very early game openers before being scouted. You build the gates in the middle and just probe scout. SoO 100% of the time was going to go 2 hatch before pool in that scenario, and it really would not matter.

thats why he held stats push so easily , parting and soO were on the same team ^^
Too easy for soO. Meeting soO before finals is just being doomed. That guy never loses before finals, when will he actually get the recognition he deserves ? Three finals in a row, semifinals at least here -if you ask me, he or Cure win. How amazing does that guy need to be to be called the best Z and possibly the best player on the planet ?

Has that been done in any pro game ever?
I feel a cannon rush would be better vs 3 hatch.
Ive seen soo practice vs cannon rushes recently, and he knows when to scout for it, where to put the drones, and is capable of holding cannon rushes with 2 hatch before pool, proxy 2 gate is just autowin.
I dont know if it's protoss-finalophobia or simply finalophobia for soo. I hope it's the former because he really deserves a trophy with this performance
Hm, I'm not evenm sure, if that is a good thing for soO. Now he will probably cancelling DH to focus on GSL semis and probably has to beat Rain/Zest to qualify for Blizzcon.. Or just hope, that sOs gets 0-2ed at RBBG. DH would be easier points for him

Probably just advance to a fifth the following season. This guy's mental fortitude is impressive, most players would have been broken down to nothing after losing a third final in the same mu the way he did.
I am not surprised about the last game. Apparently hydras is the correct response to an immortal all in on overgrowth. That was not well prepared by Stats.

I'm just not a fan of having to many royal roaders. It should stay something special IMO, so I'd rather not have someone walk that road again, just 2 seasons after Zest and Dear. Cure can win RBBG Washington and I'd be fine with that (although I prefer DRG as a winner).

Anyway, no protoss winning this season from out of nowhere, so I guess, this is a good result. If Inno now beats Cure, I'm happy with this seasons champion, whoever it will be.
Please tell me, how could you not be happy with a Cure win ? That guy is playing amazing recently, and everyone knows for a LOOONG time he's got like endless potential.
Maybe he doesn't like Cure
Who doesn't like a Terran royal roader.
I don't particularly care for him either. I mean, I'd rather see him win than soO or Zest, but I wouldn't applaud if he won

They can go hydras without being horribly behind in the midgame. In WoL hydras were much much worse for a variety of reasons.
That is true but I've seen players losing even with Hydras. Point is, this push would've been a lot stronger if he didn't go for Warp Prism early for no reason.

He would be at least the third Royal Roader (maybe fourth) in a row.

Classic wasn't a royal roader, but yes, that is the direction, in which I was thinking.

Yeah 100% agree
I just don't get it, Protoss players were using Warp Prism with Sentries to Force Field the entrance and destroy Zerg's main. Nowadays, all they do is Force Field Queens or two, maybe some drones and then it gets utterly destroyed/repelled. It doesn't do enough economic damage, it forces Zerg to make a bit more units instead of drones and gives him idea of what are you doing if he didn't manage to scout. You are just doing Zerg a favor because your Immortal push is coming later, and you forced Zerg to make units that are already needed for Immortal push anyway.
But I am not pro, maybe I am missing something, however so far in Proleague and GSL, I've yet to see when this kind of drop to Force Field drones and/or Queens has achieved something useful.

Wow these wins of Zest. Literally out of all Protoss players he played, only Rain managed to take more than 1 game from, once Rain won 2-1, once Zest won 4-2.

Yeah but arguably he didn't play a player as good as Rain. Classic, Pigbaby, sOs and herO are all very good, but I think Rain is better ; and Zest is showing today he's still another class. I'll still watch out for the reverse which Rain is capable of, but the last two games were nothing short of impressive by the KT toss.

He played the gauntlet of WCS NA Champion, WCS Korea Champion, and the pair that were champion / runner up to every event they went to, definitely not as good as Rain.

The Rain placement was ridiculous and fanboyish without these 2 flops, he hadn't won anything big, he was placed at #1 merely because of a good streak.

The power rank isn't about predicting the future, it'a about who is the best based on current results. Who would you have put in the 1 slot? Pretty much every player had a knock against them.

Titles matter more because that's when players are trying their hardest and have everything on the line. Flash should have been #1 for august. As for september Zest is the #1 without a shadow of a doubt, soO will get the 2# due to the inevitable final.

You people saying power rank was bs are wrong. Rain was at the time ridicilously strong, even better then Flash, despite him winning everything.
The thing is that he decided to leave SKT shortly after that, after that I don't know what he is going through.
Perhaps he doesn't practice as much, going thorugh change is always tough. He has not win a series after that. He has lost games absolutely should won (Bomber, YongHwa..)
I'm hoping he pulls through this, but Zest IS mechanicaly and mentally stronger ATM.

At this level you just don't get worse after 2-3 weeks. But a powerrank is based on limited information, and based on that we can make estimations. Given that we now have more information, it seems fair to rank Rain somewhat lower than Zest, Soo and Flash.

Don't see Zest winning against Bogus or Cure if he doesn't improve his PvT.

zest's pvt looks weak imo, something that requires too much times to be fixed

Don't exaggerate it. Its still good enough to roll lower tier terrans as he demonstrated against Bunny and Yoda recently. He even beat Polt, one of the best TvPers out there.

Don't think Flash can help him prepare very well against Cure's style, and Bogus also plays midgame quite differently, but I feel like Zest will have to change his PvT style if he reaches the final; he showed so much in IEM.

i agree but i was referring to an eventual zest-cure/innovation opposition

I'm pretty impressed that Zest hasn't really dropped off. While I love Rain, and don't feel he showed his best games it is nice to finally have a clear best Protoss who has shown some longevity.
I think Cure will royal road here. Reasons: He has Maru to practice his TvT with, god knows who Inno has and TvT has always been his weakest matchup. He destroyed Zest in the RO32, i'm sure he can do it again. soO loves his 2nd place too much.

Bogus TvP looks sloppy, but i agree with you on the Cure part. I dont see Zest winning that.
Cure still needs to prove himself, I feel like some of you guys already give him too much credit. Right now he could be the typical player that reaches the Ro4 once and never makes it into Code S again. (Except for the next season since he already earned his spot.). For reference see RoRo.
Innovation could become the first 2x GSL Champion in HotS... And he's my fav player. 3:0 DRG was not very surprising IMO. DRG is nowhere near as good as he used to be and Innovation, well he's Innovation. Even if he's not at his peak it's still enough to beat 97% of the players who are at their peak. Is it enough to beat Zest? Probably not...
SoO, todays matches were like Germany vs Brazil... SoO vs Zest will probably be more like Germany vs Argentinia. Really looking forward to these games! 4:3 Zest, calling it right now.
Zest hast been the strongest player for a couple of months now. He is the clear favorite to win his second GSL title.
Tl,dr: Zest vs Innovation finals, with Zest winning 4:2.
With that loss Zest becomes the 4th ever person to sweep Rain in Bo5+. The previous three players were: INnoVation-------- MLG Pro Circuit 2013 Winter Championship TaeJa---------------WCS 2013 Season 2 Grand Finals Soulkey-------------WCS 2013 Season 3 Korea Code S

Aaaaahhhh shame on me! Inno doesn't have a GSL title, still the all the rest remains true!
Mah boy zest showing everyone that sc2 is not volatile and that it takes skill and that winner mentality to be consistent even in the most stacked tournaments. That's the heart of a champion that Flash has passed onto him to continue his legacy. We are lucky to be witnesses to his reign in sc2

For the 100th time this week: Rain is still on SKT till the 30th
That's why I asked the question. If he was no longer on SKT, I didn't need to ask.
They're still friends and teammates, so why not?
they now know he is about to leave/deflect.
That doesn't influence the "friends"-part. Rain has lived with them in a teamhouse for the last years, so the rest SKT is probably closer to him than to Zest.

It would for me.
So you would abandon a friend and roommate of yours, because he has the desire to see more of the world and play overseas, which he can't do on SKT?

I wouldn't call a team with soO, Classic and Soulkey weak, especially not with rumors about Innovation joining. Anyway being mad at someone, because he makes the choices that benefit him instead of yourself is a really selfish point of view.
You can only go down in terms of SC2 teams when you leave SKT1. The money does matter no matter what these guys say. None of them are rich and most of them don't have the sort of skills that will lead to stable employment after their gaming careers end. I think PartinG can probably make it on his own like MC did. He is an entertainer as much as he is a player. Rain on the other hand, seems like someone who should stay in Kespa. Maybe he will reconsider. The only foreign team that would make sense would be Liquid.

Probably not. Rain could have been offered terms that didn't match his previous wage packet, like Parting probably didn't get offered as lucrative a deal.
Management knew that there was always a chance people don't re-sign, especially with Innobot among others as free agents they can get other high calibre players in.

Agree with shellshock, everyone seems to like to make things more random than they are.
btw any vods ? also is it really zest vs soojwa in semis? damn... that means zest won't win another title cuz soojwa has to establish his kong line even more.
