Also, there are some new options for polls (or I just found them lol): - Always show results - Hide results until user votes - Hide results until you choose to show
I have chosen the second option with the recommended games polls with as goal: 1) Get more people to vote 2) Less bandwagon votes I'm gonna monitor the results closely

Mmm I saw the results before I voted.
I'm doing it with the recommended games polls
What about people that can't watch and want to see what is recommended? That means they have to blindly vote before they know

Even though I knew who was casting, I still kind of expected to see Rotti and Nate when the stream started. I've been watching them far too much the last few weeks.

Been seeing alot more of that when you start on the South Side of a map. I don't remember it happening half as much, or people looking for features like that in WoL.

Not enough players, too many invites.
Still got 16k and 750 wcs points, not bad payout.
Ya it was a crazy big prize pool for such a small tournament.
Lyn still the smartest SC2 player of all time. When every other nerd went to MLG Anaheim for that 5k 1st place prize, he went on to win some small Chinese lan for 20k.

Almost like the tournament Xenocider won, didnt he get 10k and had no (or very few) good players?
He beat Ret and Welmu for 10k. Not bad. The funniest thing about that lan was apparently Welmu was talking with other Protosses about what strategies he was gonna use against Xenocider literally right next to Xenocider. So Xenocider just countered the strats.

People are quite upset about the WCS pts payout. Good chunk of cash though.
that tournament should never have given out WCS points. Demuslim won 1 Bo3 and got 250 points.
Well IMO non-open bracket tournaments should never give points. Any invites should negate WCS point eligibility. But this isn't the thread to discuss this :/

The eternal problem with polls having an odd number of options: the middle, "average" option is chosen a lot.
It's much better to have polls with an even number of options, you force people to express an opinion.

I vote average more often than anything else... because the average game gets the average rating. If there are only four options, I'll choose 'good game' as my average because I like StarCraft and consider the average game entertaining.

We need a formalized checklist to ensure people vote correctly. Can't have nerds running around voting willy-nilly, contaminating the score boards with their poor taste and objectively inaccurate opinions on the quality of certain games.

There shouldn't even be a vote. These criteria should be used across all matchups. Sub Terran wins in TvZ for Protoss lost and terran wins before 10 min in TvP for 5th star.

Nah, they can vote for whatever they want. I just ignore them when I compile the best games of the year list.

What was the thought process of making the robo in the wall? So Snute knew exactly what was coming, and also that patience's most important building was completely exposed?

It was the half step version of the Chinese express soul train

I think he wanted to catch Snute off guard with the warp prism by avoiding the overlords scouting inside his main. If Snute had not been so aggressive, it just might have worked. : /

So basically: I hope nothing pokes up my ramp, because then I'm fucked? Awesome strategy. Seriously, that was just complete derp from Patience.
"It's getting zerg in here, so you better close your base" "It's getting zerg in here, so i'm going to inject.." "It's getting zerg in here, so i'm going to call the protoss" "It's getting zerg in here, Jaedong should be near"
Against this, maybe taking the base just south of the main as the third might be better. Much more open space to work with, and it's not really any farther from the natural.

You don't hold. With like 10 sentries and 5+ immortals and stalkers, it's very tough.
For some reason I hate players who cheese 50% of the time, but if a player does nothing but cheese 100% of the time. I eventually grow fond of him. (ex. I love Has) Let's see how I'll feel about Patience going into this third game.

Get enough units out, but stay right on the razor's edge to get enough drones for continuous production. Your units will always trade poorly, but you can hold it with roach/hydra, assuming decent concave. Also, having the third in an open are helps immensely.

Snute would have had to figure out that Patience was probing up more and aiming for a later all in and get hydras up I think, really hard to know when it's going to hit with such an early robo tho. If you don't make early roaches and he's going with 2 immos, warp prism and a shit ton of zealts you're dead.

I prefer proxy hatch in the main. I did it all the way up to plat, had like 75% ZvP winrate. Had one game where I was literally chasing a MSC with spores over half the map.

In a main base is specific. Huk's done it vs Polt. Catz has certainly done it. Never seen a cc though.

Force Fields are great, the problem is that they're Gateway units, so you can get too many of them. That was originally necessary because Gateway units sucked and without Sentries Protoss would never have been able to survive the early game throughout WoL, but now that we have the Mothership Core, they could probably move it to the Robotics Facility.

True vs protoss :D
that was the nat
he then finished a hatch in his main!
also I'm fairly sure RuFF has made a proxy (in-main) planetary at some RedBull but that's not exactly high level

MC and JJakji last korean hopes
YoDa is up there I think. Jjakji might actually not be that safe, his group is pretty brutal for everyone.
Wanna point out that every season in WCS EU Ro32, the Koreans haven't looked strong before smashing it up in the Ro8 onwards. I guess they're weaker when it comes to group stage format than 1v1 single elimination.

People always treat foreigners beating Koreans as a huge upset even tho I would say all the Koreans in WCS EU are very beatable. Pretty much all of them live in Europe and dont have the KR ladder advantage. Isnt that pretty much the main reason why Koreans are dominating?

Practically every serious pro does at least some laddering on KR. Koreans dominate more due to having experience with the best training environment in the world.

Happy and Kas have both beaten MC and co. offline at times. They have pretty small chances to win it, but I can't count them out completely. Nerchio however is just a sleeping monster. When he had a good day in 2011/2012, he was on Stephanos level and he has beaten Code S players dominantly in offline before.

i dunno if i understand the question. i think they're winning because they're better? snute and vortix on a good day can compete to win the title but what other foreigner would be a good matchup against sd, mc, mma or san? w/terran patch i think you can include jjakji and yoda as well. yoda has been tearing up korean qualifiers
I can see Bunny, Happy, Welmu and Nerchio as potential title contenders. Kas, too, if he has a bit of luck.
ill take bunny and welmu but the other 3 i dont think are ro4 material
Happy and Kas have both beaten MC and co. offline at times. They have pretty small chances to win it, but I can't count them out completely. Nerchio however is just a sleeping monster. When he had a good day in 2011/2012, he was on Stephanos level and he has beaten Code S players dominantly in offline before.
But has also lost many more times offline and online... I think everyone knows that those players are very good, they're just not the equals of the (admittedly weak) EU Koreans- if they were, the previous WCS EU results would be quite different.

Only for Archons made from Dark Templar. Archons made from High Templar have Feedback :D.
that would be weird considering feedback was a dark archon spell :p
I know, right? But now it's a High Templar ability . And they gave Zeratul the Stasis ability in Heroes of the Storm, even though that was a Judicator ability.

Nerchio was already a monster, before that "buff" happened.

Sure. I was talking about outside chances, I still think, YoDa and San are the nr. 1&2 favorites for WCS EU.

I don't particularly care who goes on here, but I can't help but feel like there'd be a certain amount of hilarity to be had with the reigning champion falling out first.

Another sign that WCS Europe is becoming more similar to the GSL.

Jerks. I'm paying $45/month for 25mbps download, 2mpbs upload, and a downlaod cap of 300GB usage per month. Unlimited from 2am to 8am =.=

My mom just bought a new apartment, came with fiber line, included in the monthly fee. Was downloading 9-11 mbit/s there, finished a 13 GB DL in like 30 mins. I was jelly.

Depending on regions. If you have FIOS and live in an area where not many people use it then yah it's very fast. Some regions are still dealing with aDSL.

Pretty much Canada and American Internet, there are download and/or upload caps. If you want something faster here with a larger cap at where I live (my house) in Toronto, most likely you will be paying the following:
Rogers - 60mbps download, 10mbps upload. 120GB download and upload cap = $70/month. 320GB download and upload cap = $85/month. Rogers - 150mbps download, 15mbps upload. 350GB download and uploadcap = $86/month. 550GB download and upload cap = $101/month.
Start (uses Rogers last mile) - 60mbps download, 10mbps upload. 300GB download cap, 2am to 8am unlimited use = $65/month. Teksavvy, (similar to Start) = $70/month. Start (uses Rogers last mile) - 150mbps download, 15mbps upload. 400GB download cap, 2am to 8am unlimited use = $90/month. Teksavvy (similar to Start but 300GB download cap) = $90/month

Too be fair, it's not that bad everywhere. Some areas of the country are monopolized and that's where you get problems like this, but big cities usually have other options. I have no download cap for example, but it does get stupidly slow once in a while.

Rogers - 60mbps download, 10mbps upload. 120GB download and upload cap = $70/month. 320GB download and upload cap = $85/month. Rogers - 150mbps download, 15mbps upload. 350GB download and uploadcap = $86/month. 550GB download and upload cap = $101/month.
Start (uses Rogers last mile) - 60mbps download, 10mbps upload. 300GB download cap, 2am to 8am unlimited use = $65/month. Teksavvy, (similar to Start) = $70/month. Start (uses Rogers last mile) - 150mbps download, 15mbps upload. 400GB download cap, 2am to 8am unlimited use = $90/month. Teksavvy (similar to Start but 300GB download cap) = $90/month
So yeah, Canadian Internet sucks. We get raped and we can't do anything about it.

Except you can't. You will still be working with Rogers simply put, and are subject to the CRTC, which basically bends over backwards for the telecoms despite claiming to work for us citizens. Start and Teksavvy are basically these independent ISPs that you are talking about and telling me to start. Rogers and Bell still controls them indirectly because they own the last mile, which is the cable that connects your house to the local node down the street.

He couldn't get the overlord into the main.
Then he misplayed it. If the OL gets pushed away aggressively, that tells you things too.
the hatchery was a regular pool first timing and with pool first the queen will pop as the overlord is flying in
its a very hard build to read, thats why miniraser did it, but he screws up his build to get that impossibly early hatchery for the specific purpose of mindgaming snute. its not impossible to hold, snute is just a greedy player, it was a smart play

See what?
The lings, or the early speed on the pool.
If you sack an OL that early just to see a 15/15 build, the opponent can just make drones and is way ahead. Plus, when you sac the OL so early, you will be even harder pressed to hold than you are already.

You can't fly the overlord if you face pool first.
Which tells you you're facing pool first, and possibly early speed.
It tells you you're facing pool first. Which tells you nothing. Hatch first is better for ling all-ins due to injects being synched anyway.
yea i think squat missed the build because 15/14 gas first is definitely a lot faster than any 15p/15h build speed timing. you cant assume gas first based on pool first lol

well yea but you wait for your opponent to move out and catch the army. and a lot of players cut the baneling nest and once the engagements start they want to produce more roaches anyway. i prefer the style where you open roaches while upgrading melee, poke around with them and then rally lings, but the straight up ling opener is nice too (also keep in mind +1 armor lings take 2 bane hits)

It's so extremely sad to watch a player go thru, who has no chance what so ever to get thru the next round, over a player who can actually get to blizzcon.. so sad.
Going thru with only cheesy plays isnt viable in the long run, not at all

Yeah, players like MC and Maru stopped doing cheesy play after a while. That's why they're so successful!

it's very sick and the koreans have been popularizing it a lot. even if it doesn't work you usually are able to reduce the army size/cancel the third/do a runby etc. and still go into a macro game. on ladder it can absolutely annihilate players who are just going vanilla 1/1 roach macro

are you a zerg player? 1/1 melee lings isn't a cheese. gas first with fake expo is a little cheesy i'll give you that but snute's weakness is his greed.

Can we stop talking about Protoss' poor winrate and discuss Terran? Terran is so weak they didnt even have a chance to play
They have lost 0 games so far. That's pretty OP man
Nah, the glass is always half empty. 0 games won!
Well Miniraser got out first, i hope Showtime can pull the next upset in his group!

I don't think you should compare miniraser with MC and Maru... miniraser is more like Lillekanin, yeah it's successfull for a few times, then ppl know he's just going cheesy and completely shuts him down as he won't stand a chance in normal macro games.

Very interesting. It's coming at a totally unexpected timing, too, at least for the version miniraser pulled off. You would think there would be roaches all over the map past 10 minute mark in a zvz.

Cheesy plays are a big part of the game, especially in tournaments like this where you get to prepare for your opponents.
Miniraser has showed good macro games in the past as well. I wouldn't write him off!

it's all about the zvz meta. a lot of players will straight up assume macro roach and cut out little details like ling/overlord pokes because for so long everything was just mass roach. i think as the meta develops the melee style will become weaker as players get more tentative to move out without information (especially reading into lack of moveout from opponent), but it should still be a good style to mix in

Toodming tried something similar in WCS, but he botched his timings a bit I think. Mini hit them perfectly, his defense at the third was so clutch. Mini has really improved.

i do it on ladder i open with a speedling timing to deny/delay the third and establish map control. but if you don't delay the third i think it's kinda bad. in proleague often they open gas and then cancel speed for faster upgrades, then start speed for a roach/ling timing

You kinda get map control vs gasless just by virtue of having gas anyway. Unless you're talking vs gas as well.
Dunno, I don't like going gasless and not having roaches to defend all-ins. Gotta experiment, I guess.
Weird that even though Snute has never beaten Stardust in a series, he is still very slightly favored by Aligulac. Not that it is a reliable source of predictions.

Hopefully Snute can change that streak.
H2H is worth nothing in rating-based systems. The sample size of H2H against their entire results becomes irrelevant.
Leaving the hatch and coming back later actually helped Stardust since it split Snute up more allowing him to snipe the other hatch. I don't really like expanding on both sides with swarmhosts on this map.

Guys, can someone explain to me why snute refuses to scout? How come he doesn't have lings on the map to spot incoming army? I don't understand his play.
He had all his army at the fourth, while stardust went around to snute's third. How come Snute didn't have any scouting lings or overlord? I just don't understand this blind refusal to scout. Snute didn't scout against miniraiser...and he isn't scouting against stardust.
kaelaris being surprised by the forge openers shows that he doesn't know how comfortable protoss are falling back on forge nexus against pool first. it's hardly a problem. nexus first is nice but not terribly necessary

thats what happens when you try to attack toss before you have swarmhost/viper cost efficiency, you either do solid damage or end up gas starved and underdroned
omg stardust blinking after those 4 vipers just sealed it, snute almost saved them all

Snute had so much mineral, but no gases at his third? Wtf...He has made so many mistakes. Lack of scouting. A moving his army. No viper pulls. Not making enough vipers early on.

Not enough economy to get corruptors to deal with 4 colossi They are useless after the corruptors are dead and he cant clean up the ground army + the vipers are supposed to do the job against colossi
From his play today, Snute didn't deserve to go through. I really wanted him to advance, but his play was really lack luster. I mean no scouting in the majority of his games? Come on Snute...

50something drones on roach/hydra/viper tech, he honestly needed both the minerals and the gas.
He was floating like 2k+ minerals for a long time
taking double gas without producing extra drones is half a base of mineral income. i agree he could have thrown down maybe one additional gas but these mistakes happen. and what was he really going to do with more gas and limited mineral income? transition into 5 swarm hosts? typically with roach hydra viper you need to do damage before starting to work on your saturation. keep in mind he also started with the gold and had to transfer back to the traditional third due to harassment which im sure messed him up

When did this happen?
When she would land about ten minutes before Detroit starts because of travel times. It would be Canada, bounce off to Detroit, play straight off the plane more or less. No point, she'd just have a terrible performance and waste a lot of time and energy, especially since she's in the WCS Ro16 now.

Well he'll have to step up his game quite a few levels from what we saw today to be able to grab any points from those events, I don't think he'll be able to finish better than ro8.
