I haven't payed that much attention the past 12 months but I thought tournaments had started to adhere to some really strict region locking? I thought you needed a green card / work visa to participate in respectable WCS regions? Like Polt and Violet have legit athlete visas in order to participate in WCS America.
I think there are still like 2 ladder wildcard spots for everyone and once youre in challenger its pretty hard to get knocked out. No major region locking in other tournaments.
