One tournament group stage and single elimination playoffs. The group stage (Ro16) takes place on friday and the playoffs (Ro8 onwards) are played on the second and final day of the event. All matches are best-of-five except the final which is bo7. The 3rd place match is not played.
Participation
There are two ways to gain one of the 16 slot in the tournament, by a direct invite or by a qualification tournament. Two slots will be given out at the BCON Clash tournament next week. The last slot can be gained via a BYOC tournament on December 5 at the NorthCon.
*Update 6.12.13 - 2:36 a.m.*
Because of the weather and some cancelled flights we delayed the start of the tournament to 12:00
Altough it could be concidered "spoiler" (or just (false) rumors) imo the supposedly already confirmed invites is gonna up the hype-o-meter: Nerchio, Naniwa and Scarlett might also be attending
Damn, some sick lineup there. Last time I promised to cook and eat my cat and my shoe respectively if JD either won or made it to the finals. The shoe was kind of stringy, so I think I'll go with a tennis ball or something this time.
jjakji's sure got an interesting group! Three of the best foreigners in the business, and one of each race at that! He should be fine, though. Fighting!

Also there seems to be some kind of byoc qualifier spot. I guess theres some kind of open bracket where probably a lot of germans will attend. Maybe danish or dutch people too?
Seems quite likely that some decent local players will attend.

Still kinda weird, that Hasu as current champion did´nt get a direct invite. However this keeps the dream of GoOdy qualifying and then eliminating Jaedong/Scarlett with his 93%-TvZ alive, so I´m taking it.

same with his decision to go to iem instead of wcg
Acer's main market is foreign viewers not korean viewers.
He's at Asus Rog so Acer dont have to fly him back to Korea for a single week only to bring him back for ATC (and I think he said himself that he hates travel)

best things first, i am sooo damn happy even the group matches are bests of 5. although scarlett is whining about protoss(with good reason), she should be able to advance along with jjakji. lucifron performed poor at dreamhack and elfi is just an middle class foreigner.
Well this seems like a good a time as any to make predictions! Group winner first, runner up second. Life, Innovation Jaedong, Nerchio San, MMA Jjakji, Scarlett
Pretty easy honestly. Just need to know who the TBD is and Stardust/Nerchio is a little bit of a toss up. Thoughts?

Depending on Welmu's condition (he's been ill lately) and how Jjakji plays I could see both finns mixing it up. Especially elfi seems to have a very manageable group. Also I'd definitely give Stardust edge over Nerchio.

Elfi is always a player who can make waves, but I think most of his strength is in PvP when it comes to upsets. And welmus poor condition plus his placement into the group of death gives me pause.
The tournament is going to be a blast! About to finish packing and heading to the airport. Will be great to cast a big tournament in my home country, has been way too long

The storm of the century is about to start in Hamburg, shit is going to be crazy really soon. I hope they'll manage to pick up everyone.
i hope this doesn't turn into a disaster for the event :/
Yeah, this looks bad. Aren't there also risks of blackouts?
They shut down the airport in the afternoon and I don't think they'll reopen it today, if trains are also cancelled I don't know how they could get to the venue before tomorrow :/
I don't think blackouts are going to be a problem though, the worst part of the actual storm is over. There's going to be a storm tide tonight but that is more or less a regular occurence in Hamburg and shouldn't destroy anything important.

There is still a bus going to Neumünster from Hamburg Airport. so that shouldnt be the biggest problem

Storm hit us on the road. We are here. Xaver is here. Snow and ice storm. We cannot see shit. Going strong. 100km until we arrive. Xaver has no chance against emp!

Oh snap, gl
ye not much fun to be outside in germany atm, but school's out, at least we have this going for us :D
BYOC is just 26 players. Primelot and LGTurok the only notable ones. Vortix and Lucifron got picked up at the Station and are probably in hotel as well. Acer guys are here.
Grubby is in Hamburg for the night as far as i know. I dont know about Socke. Hasuobs will travel to Northcon tomorrow. I think Khaldor will be here tomorrow but Funka seems to be in France still. Maybe we will do the German cast with 1 guy and okko or me will do the camera work which would work but would be nowhere near Funka. Thats all I know JD seems to be here. Stardust and jjakji are not i believe. Sleep now. Will start at noon tomorrow hfhf

Production is fine, a hurricane screwed stuff up in the beginning and no lan is screwing us up now - not too much they can do.
No, production is horrible. Did you watch day1? No sound, horrible quality. After 4 hours brake between games they get shitty sound. This has nothing to do with storm. They had days to make sure that everything is ready. Looks like they though at 1200 just start streaming...no any prepations..
The worst thing was when others were playing welmu and inno were waiting for 4h that mainstream would start working...

My first post was in regards to the fact that the main stream wasn't used and wasn't communicated, and then 2 hours in they changed from TakeTV over to the main stream, all the while audio for the casters was abysmal and the video was blurry and generally poor. That said, there is some stupid chode on twitter that keeps DDOSing people and bragging about it. He's DDOSed rotterdam two nights in a row and various other streamers, including Jaedong. Sadly, this DDOS isn't a way I can further justify my saltiness and QQ about how bad this tourney is.
can't believe i missed my chance to predict lucifron going last in his group with out taking a map like i was going too it would of been the easiest prediction i have ever made.
These are some really entertaining games! It is super awesome to be able to watch such high level players during the day on the Pacific coast!
Coming from watching BW VODs exclusively in Korean, I think the production is doing fine, all things considered! We should all be stoked to be able to watch great games so easily! ^_^
