When you play on ladder it's fine to try and speed things up to the win but in a tournament you play the higher odds without worrying about the game lasting 10 minutes more than it might otherwise.

Obviously the safe course of action is the best there, but making only ravens wasn't the safe option. He had total and complete air control against an opponent who went mech.
