Extended series at it's current format isn't the best option.

But no rewarding the Upper bracket players seems stupid...Say Polt has been undefeated so far and Nani, who has already lost a bo3, wins only one bo3 versus him and he goes through? So Nani had second chance and Polt does not get one? Both extremes are pretty fucked up, should find something in the golden middle.

He has to play less matches and had a nice break. Isn' that reward enough?

It really isn't, with championships at stake.

Because it's being monitored...?

No they are not, unless you are seeing invisible people inside the booths.

They are watching the screens of each of the players remotely.

the player in the booth could cheat by wearing a tiny micro earpiece, and someone in the crowd relays what the opponent is doing via the earpiece

and the micro ear pieces are tiny and can even be embedded underneath the skin

This is the essence of the GSL group format though. Players have been 2-3 in matches to another player and advanced over them in GSL before.

Naniwa vs. Polt?! For some reason, I feel like Polt is the Koren version of Nani, lol. Both are like the guy that everyone hates but still hast to respect for their skills, and they have a propensity to act all nonchalant like, "F--- you all, I'm just gonna win." X-D Should be a good match.

...no, "everyone" hasn't hated Polt in 2 years.

The extended rule basically acts the same way as double elimination. Say Naniwa does win 2-1 this series, that knocks Polt down to the lower bracket where he would have to play..........Naniwa. Then Naniwa again has to win a series (ie. 4 total wins).

that's how i always understood as well

Except that if they previously met once, Polt won 2-1, Naniwa winning 1 game knocks Polt down. Instead of 2 games as in a usual Bo3.

I've seen people like Demuslim check their phone right after a game while still being in the booth. So people could make some sophisticated Morris code type stuff with vibrate. Ex. let the phone vibrate once if my opponent is expoing, twice if he is not.

The rules?

Busy status in-game. I would also assume there's delay in the stream.

so long as they in the game itself watching and sending messages (not likely). I guess someone could be watching the feed in another room or something (not likely either). The stream has a delay witch makes it really hard to even try to cheat. Not to talk about if they are caught they can be shunned out of the community

It's kinda dumb in general I find.

The funniest thing is they changed back to it after deciding to remove it for a while...

I assume MLG implemented extended series to last the tournament out a little longer. If extended series wasn't in place, we would have the finals being played about a hour ago.

Everyone knows that guy who will never admit he's wrong, even if you show him and he realises the best you'll get is "agree to disagree". I think The MLG commissioner is that guy.

I think football kinda does have that in champions league right? play two games with aggregate score?

It's not the same thing, thats basically like playing a 180 minute match except you switch stadiums and the players get to rest up half way.

Hm using that logic, this is just a bo7 being played over 2 days. Let's just agree that it is stupid without going into detail^^.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

In that case they could just add bo5 for semifinals and perhaps bo7 for finals?

I was hoping MLG would do Bo5 semis and Bo7 finals, but I guess being behind 2-X gives the community more to rally around and raise hype for the underdog. And having a rematch adds to the motivation of both players to do their best. But still, I think extended series was the wrong call, but not the worst possible.

Polt comes from the winner bracket.

Yeah but if the player coming from the loser bracket had been defeated by a different player than Polt, the match would start at 0-0 so your argument is just invalid

No because the guy from the loser bracket would have to win a BO7 whereas the guy from the winner bracket would have to win a BO3.

Not that I'm in favor of extended series, it's pretty stupid but Polt should have an advantage.

This is pretty simple: you lose, you're behind - even if you did not play the guy from the winner's bracket before.

If you want to win a tournament - don't lose.

Extended series is the best. If you don't want to start behind than you should had just won your games. You get a second chance, that is great!
