Agreed that they need to change the social media thing and spice it up a bit. At the same time, can't really say to much considering the kind of viewership they are getting (i.e. really, really, really good numbers).

I'm actually starting to like the social media segment. Yeah, sometimes it's a bit weird but certainly it doesn't deserve the hate I see here.

Curious why you think this. Essentially you are saying that online games are purely coinflips, i.e. the results contain no information whatsoever, which is demonstrably false.

It has nothing to do with coinflips and everything to do with two opponents meeting on an uneven battlefield i.e. cross-server latency etc.

Sitting 10 feet away face to face from your opponent eliminates these external advantages.

But your claim wasn't that it should be judged with reservation, but that it shouldn't be judged at all.

I don't see why you would choose to completely disregard information unless it's totally uncorrelated with what you are trying to measure, which it clearly isn't.

I personally would never use flawed information to judge anything.

Thought experiment time. Alice is a lot better than Bob, and will beat him every time offline, but only 60% of the time online, due to whatever reasons. You don't know this, but you have them play 10000 online games and Alice wins 6000 of them. Who is better? Your claim is that you can't know, since this is flawed information, but actually it shows that Alice is clearly the stronger player.

The problem is your theoretical cutoff seems to be 10,000 games to derive a 60% winrate for Alice. Around here, people see a top Korean lose one game cross-server to an inferior foreigner and then lose their minds about how they've "lost their touch" or that foreigners are "closing the gap."

You can definitely lay some groundwork with a players relative skill using online play, but I would never use it for any sort of ranking system.

Mvp comes to the studio. Sits in a chair for a while. Stands up and goes home, qualified for next round. Ah yes, while sitting, he occasionally smashes some buzzing foreigners that fly around.

Flawed information remains flawed even if it happens to be correct in one instance. Broken clock and all that.

The online results tell you nothing; Alice could be far better but suffering from lag, or Bob could be better but suffering from lag. It's impossible to know until they play offline.

I'm still pretty sure you mean "little" and not "nothing". If I were to play a million online games against Life and win all of them it would be outrageous to claim that this tells you nothing about Life's abilities.

I agree, think its just that some people strongly dislike it, while most of us don't mind and it probably is actually doing what they want . . . that is, increasing the social media buzz about the show lol.

I didn't mean it douchebaggy though. I always see Redeye with a black tailcoat and a monocle, he even has the posture for that (with one hand on the back) and stuff. I really like that. ^^

It tells you about his abilities in a specific context - playing you online.

Granted I'm being hyperbolic, you can say a build is bad online for example - latency doesn't affect such a thing. But for anywhere latency is involved, you simply don't know if a player is playing anything like they would offline.
