that would be very Boring, indeed. really? I think the only way that could be better is if Jaedong beat Verdi, but I'd love to see a Leenock vs Gumiho finals edit: and yeah, these gaping holes in tournament formats are getting quite old. It's 2013 and we still have a bo3 bracket and coin flips. Can't get much more retarded. At least we have a good ro16 player pool, or it would be a total laughable disaster. Why should the fact that it's 2013 change those things? Has time slowed down? They have a lot of games to run and a limited amount of time to run them in. They can't do every game bo37 and they can't do endless tiebreakers. Seriously, "laughable disaster"? Wow. Lol. GSL never had to flip a coin to decide who advances from their groups. And that's just it. Bo3 is a time saving format, not one that finds the best player at the event. Bo5s should come sooner. If you've made it to the ro8 (i'd honestly say even the ro16) out of 96 players, you deserve a bo5. GSL doesn't have to be played in 2 days. Fucking add more computers then. It doesn't matter what it takes, man. Flipping a coin to decide who advances in a tournament is uncalled for. There's no excuse. An established business and a series of trained professions working on an international level should be able to figure out a way to make it work. And not just work, work seamlessly. If it takes a little extra time for one group to find their results, then broadcast group stage 3 matches in OTHER groups first..among a number of other things Dreamhack is responsible for thinking about. it doesn't have to be the GSL format, necessarily. It just has to not be stupid. I see you ignored my response. I will just keep linking this post if people keep insisting that coinflipping is stupid. Your post is bad lol, in no way is it better for determining the "best players" this part makes me really lol "If anything, argue that Dreamhack's format is too time consuming or that coinflips look bad for the casual and uneducated viewer." The GSL format is most fair in the sense that you don't get screwed over with a coinflip. There should NEVER be a coinflip in a professional sport, it's ridiculous when you are trying to determine the best player. Both may be flawed but one is far more flawed then the other. I don't agree with coinflips either, not because it's not fair but because there should be the tension of a match deciding their fate. The brackets of the tournament or what group you end up in is the same as coinflips. The only tournament format that is 100% fair is a full round robin lol.
This is also a good point. And I actually prefer the GSL system too but, just like you say, not because it's more fair.

Looks like Grubby met his end in the ro16.
Like others have pointed out, Leenock has absolutely destroyed everyone and somehow still keeps a low profile. People notice only when he's crushed through ro8.

Coinflip is just bad, you can say the same that you can play the same opponent twice in the GSL system but I just don't how it's the same. At least with the GSL format you actually have to play the games to decide your fate.

Point is that the coin flip is such a rare thing that it's hard to really justify changing it.

I'm so happy some great old style players made a big impact in this tournament! Great job by TLO, Huk and Kas! Personally hoping for TLO to win it all! :D
