The usual: Don't flame casters or players. Don't discuss balance in this or any LR thread. Don't call your fellow posters idiots. Be excited, happy and entertained.

There's 3, but they advanced by beating other foreigners.

Do we count Sen as a foreigner?

YES, let's be fair we need all we can get.

Nah it's always been Asian vs White..it's just not PC to point it out..

http://www.twitch.tv/ and LoL game just started.

Watching LoL streams is like watching paint dry. I definitely anticipate a huge influx of players constantly coming to SC for esports.

No... there is... another.

Wait. No, there are going to be 3 foreigners in Ro16.

Not sure how many will be in Ro8.

Oh, c'mon. Give Sen half a chance. (Sorry Ret, whoever wins Thorzain/Killer.)

On second thought, and after consulting the bracket, Sen is going against Parting.

Dammit.

It was so apparent how strong medivacs were coming into this event and after one day of play it is even more apparent. I don't understand how the overall consensus seems to be that it doesn't need to be tweaked.

Medivacs are way too strong currently. Drop play is one of the main strengths of the Terrans, and this strength has had a massive boost by the new change to medivacs. I cannot see it lasting through the next patch.

The game is brand new so imbalances are expected and these will be ironed out with nerfs and buffs plus other changes. It was apparent that the Warhound was too strong and this was removed as a reaction, so Blizzard will realise that changes need to be made. These early HoTS tournaments are providing the data that they need to make alterations to the game. You need to play games at the top level to find the imbalances. Not really a way around it, play-testing only shows you so much.

So much schadenfreude over Stephano losing. Nothing wrong with "Stephano got out-multitasked badly and Last looked brilliant", but "YAY I'm so happy that Stephano lost" - ugh, that just feels wrong. Some respect please?

Regardless, at this point I'm expecting an all korean top 8.

I would bet that the whole STX team helped Last/Bogus to study their opponents and prepare builds that would counter them (maybe not much was needed against Huk but still) while Stephano probably just laddered.

Not really, but the zerg/protoss needs to take air control with muta/phoenix. Else, he'll be dropped like a madman.

Maybe but mutas are lame late game . The Terran is just going to sit, max on 3-3 or 2-2 and crush the Zerg .
Viper/ultras seems to be better and with lings/infestors and static defense you can deal with drops .

Foreign hope? There is no foreign hope at this tournament.

If any foreigner gets to ro8
I consider that as a huge feat.

But everyone isn't getting equal amounts of practice, and certainly not equal quality of practice. Same goes for infrastructure and mentality - the Koreans (usually) have it all, and talent, whereas foreigners only have some of those.

I don't get why this is being said now. People saw this coming. NA / EU players have been doing bad from pretty much the start of SC 2, minus a very few players here and there. This is just the continuation of that as NA / EU has completely failed to develop the infrastructure to train and incentivize better players. This gets discussed after every tournament but nothing is ever done so... Why the /gasp now?

Pro SC 2 in NA / EU is going into a slow decline. Players are going to continue competing and I even envision Stephano making a comeback eventually. But they're never going to get better than they are now.

Well there you have it.
But the RIGHT practice is more important, dedication and actually honor is vital parts as well.

I would really like you to elaborate on the honor part, because I can't wrap my head around that one.

They practice smarter and longer. That's about it.

I would rather say, they are professional organised.

That is why they practice smarter and longer. I didn't say the players were doing it by themselves.

You're calling the ones who root for Koreans nationalists? I'm pretty sure a nationalist would root for players of his own nationality. I personally just root for the best players, and those just happen to be almost exclusively Koreans.

It's not so much the amount of practice as much as what you're practicing + what you're learning.

For example by all accounts Dan Henderson was a workhorse (Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler, PRIDE Middleweight Champion, probably a hall of famer in any MMA conversation) and that didn't stop him from getting starched and choked out by Anderson Silva, who trained with fucking Steven Segal.

Bad analogy, anderson silva fights with massive advantages in MMA, the dude is has super long limbs and is super tall for his weight class (he is taller than most LHW's, he is taller than the greatest HW of all time).

I bolded the key words for you. Foreigners don't practice as much as Koreans. Even the ones that practice a lot only do so for 8 hours a day or so. Koreans practice 12 hours a day.

but there's no point in practicing more, because the quality of players on the NA ladder is lower, so it's not as good and rewarding practice
Well, now I tell you, I never seen good come o' goodness yet. Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don't bite; them's my views--amen, so be it.
