lol, did you watch the games? G2 from Squirtle was amazing but it was his own huge mistake that put him in that situation to begin with. Soulkey didn't do anything really amazing but he played solid. And since he made less big mistakes, he won.

Don't like typing this as they are usually pretty good but I would not call Squirtle to be the best Protoss at all. MC and Parting are in my opinion a lot better than squirtle and even Creator as well. Obviously they are allowed to like someone but for them to keep going on and on about how great Squirtle was and not even get to comment much about Soulkey or Symbol is just strange.
They are really great casters but it's tiring to hear about how great one player is for like 90% of the game.

75% zerg ro8 incoming, right?
I hope the talent hunters saw the good games by Squirtle.

I guess you have never watch them cast Nestea?

Squirtle really seems to have a hard time closing something out. So many times he has excited me only to drop the ball rather severely at the end. He deserved the loss, though it is unfortunate.

It really wasn't as amazing as it was made out to be. Soulkey really screwed up his attack and Squirtle was able to counter with a gateway all in against basically pure roach with a ton of force fields. You could say that Squirtle had better overall micro that game, but his decision to scout so late and not put up additional cannons when he saw a bunch of lings coming out was just ridiculous.

Nestea thing became a running joke so it's kinda fine, back when they started with that he took the GSL without dropping the map so it's deserved

Then how come they lost? As someone mentioned it doesn't matter how well you play after you've already lost. Look at the whole picture.

MKP was first known as Boxer. He showed up out of no where (copying the ID of the real Boxer), and owned it up with his marine micro and everything. He owned banelings with marines (good marine splits) and took out Fruitdealer (the former GSL Champion of that season, it was season 2) and made it to the finals. It was a good storyline. The real Boxer made it to the semi finals (thus potentially setting up a real Boxer vs fake Boxer finals, the winner gets to keep the name Boxer!!111) but lost to Nestea. Anyway, the fact that MKP showed up out of no where (taking the name of the famous Boxer) and owned up with the Boxer ID made him a memorable player. The good first impression (and the fact that he is still relevant today) makes him a good candidate for a fan favorite. That and he was pretty good too. Making it to three finals within 3-4 months, he became a Kong quite quickly. Though he sort of fell off after that, early 2012 he did make it to 3 MLG finals in a row (facing off against DRG each time and winning 2 of out 3 MLGs). Sadly MKP fell off after and hasn't returned to form lately (though it's hard now that the competition is fiercer than ever). Overall, there's lots of reasons to like MKP but he is sadly losing a lot of what made him really liked in the first place (being a Kong, stealing famous pro gamer names, crying, etc). Despite MKP not doing as well lately, he's been in nearly every Code S and hasn't fallen off yet. So while he's no MVP, he's definitely a player above most others because he at least manages to stay relevant (which is hard to do when the competition is so fierce). He made it to the semi finals of Iron Squid (recently) for example, so it's not just Code S either . At least he still has hip looking glasses.
MKP still has the best micro in the business and his macro is pretty insane as well. his decision making has become flawed though...

Well, you have to give credit to Squirtle on that one tho. It is not easy to micro on 2 fronts like that for that long.

You don't seem to understand. Squirtle has terrible micro and stress management (compared to parting/mc)
He loses to 2rax, he loses to unscouted rushes, he's never really been clutch when things start falling apart. He has always relied on strong build orders, good planning, and macro mode decision making. What the soulkey game showed was that he is breaking out of that rut. Sure, it came back to him against symbol, but he's finally shedding that part of him. His micro is improving and his mental Fortitude is improving. It's really exciting.

Does the embedded gom player make use of twitch now or something? Work blocks every stream but I've been able to watch the GSL games...until now. Really depressing.
