I see them coming out to play the most standard SC2 they can, with the belief their macro is better or good enough. That, or they do some kind of cheesy all in which is usually executed extremely poorly (see: Zenio vs Bogus).
This format isn't about who is the better player, who would win in a best of 5 or who would place higher in a weekend tournament, as I would think nearly all of EG-TL's lineup would place higher than most of STX's at an MLG or IPL etc. But it's about winning one game. Jaedong does it because he's used to Proleague, the others aren't.
It will take time, but I think that's where they need to be coached. Towards playing two types of Starcraft - regular Starcraft, and Proleague Starcraft.
The Kespa players have been blank slates just to understand Proleague Starcraft, and that's why they look so superior to EG-TL in non winner's league format.
I agree with this. This Bo1 preparation format is something completely different. That's why you see people like HerO doing average in it and then suddenly go on kill streaks in a format he's more used to where his straight up abilities are worth more. The only player who managed to do well is Taeja because he's Taeja. But even he didn't win everything convincingly.

I don't know what you are ppl talking about here. This is like trying to explain the introduction of the euro by martian invasion. You're talking about PL format when EGTL does not field better players, who won their games already.

Player is good -> EG buys player -> player not that good anymore due to EG's not-so-good training/coaching staff -> player gets worse than before, ppl start talking about "EG curse". That leads to EG buying new ppl (which would be Jaedong and Revival at this point in time). Let's wait another year to see them fall into another state of meaningless being, just as JYP, Puma and HuK did. I mean, srsly, who is excited for one of them going Code S, and seriously expecting one of them to go for a code S round of 8/4/finals? Who does expect JYP to win a Dreamhack (just to mention poorer standards), who expects Puma to win a IEM, who expects HuK to win a MLG? Noone would do this. Of course one would root and cheer for them, but really expecting ppl to be first is like expecting Grubby to become multiple Code S champ. Lol. EG buys good players, they don't breed them. Players EG bought since SC2's release: Puma, JYP, HuK, Thorzain, Stephano, Jaedong, Revival. Players EG trained since SC2's release: IdrA, Machine, Incontrol, Demuslim, Lzgamer See the difference? i could do the same with most teams and get the same results, EG's sc2 team was created a long time ago, most players from that era have become much worse
It happens with increased exposure. Anywho, I'm a firm believer in having a strong farm system for developing players. So no it's not necessarily true with most teams and nor do most teams have the resources EG has. In this case you very much make your own bed when you have their backing. They had to start with something and I've written in the past about the pickup of those American players (Demuslim wasn't originally in the mix btw). Had no problem with it. Anyway, team mentality: you're only as good as your worst player and it's hard to talk about a lot of those guys when I wouldn't really call them roster players.

No offense to them, but Zenio and Puma seem like fairly dead weight.

Puma's performances have been beyond terrible for the past weeks. I'd just drop him for now till he gets back on track if he ever will.

This is why I think it's never a good idea to put one of your very best players last in proleague format. You never know if it's going to make it to the 6th game, so even if the map was good for HerO they should have tried to squeeze him in earlier.

Ahhh I am still confused why Revival and Zenio are being used in place of Stephano? In my opinion I honestly believe Stephano is superior to both of these players, at least in current form. Sure he lost the last game, but that was a weird funky ZvP on Antiga Shipyard...And I don't know what is up with Puma lately, but surely they shouldn't be putting him out first in his current form?

Puma has been bad, but he may be the team's best uninjured Terran at this point

Since you've missed the million other people who have mentioned this in this thread and countless others, Stephano is training for GSL and will not be playing for the time being.

Ah well, that explains some of the frustration.

pretty sad and boring games

Ugggghhh I don't know how Revival lost that game.

I give up on EG-TL. Their only chance is if Taeja comes back and if Stephano drops out of Code S and dedicated all his time to proleague. Tis a shame they're ranked so low with so much potential.
|
People need to stop 1. underestimating kespa teams just because their players didn't start from beta 2. overestimating eg-tl just because you know the players longer
and lower the expectation. EG-TL is not some super power that is meant to take this Proleague just because they ranked themselves as No.1 in preview. They got some good players (taeja, hero, stephano) and some average ones (the rest of them) just like every other team. They will probably finish 4-5 in the end, and that's where they are supposed to be.

Please rename the team Jaedong and friends.
