Hello everyone!

We would first like to thank the community for it's tremendous support for IPL during and after IPL5!

There will be 3 events at IPL6, which is being held at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, March 28th - March 31st:

Main Event - Wings of Liberty
IPTL 2013 Season 1 Finals
Heart of the Swarm Invitational

IPL6 Wings of Liberty:

Wings of Liberty will be the main event for IPL6. The Wings of Liberty tournament is a 40 person tournament with both invite and open spots.

For each Regional, the winner of the tournament will receive an invite and free travel and hotel for the event. The runner up for each regional will receive a spot in the event, but no travel. Regional winners will receive a seed into Winners Round 3 of the event.

For Satellite events, the winner receives a spot in the event, but no travel. For the International Satellite, the top 3 players all qualify for the event, but do not win travel.

You may only sign up for a Regional or Satellite if you live in that region OR hold citizenship in that region OR will be travelling from that region for IPL6. You may sign up for both a Regional and Satellite and as many as you are eligible for. You must pick ONE region to play in, and may not play in Regionals / Satellites from multiple regions.

Signups close for each qualifier 24 hours before the event begins.

Here are the dates for the Regionals and Satellites. Signups are hyperlinks and live now!

Regionals:
American Regional - Wednesday January 16 - 12pm Pacific - BRACKET
European Regional - Wednesday January 16 - 6am Pacific - BRACKET
Korean Regional - Wednesday January 16 - 9pm Pacific - BRACKET
Amateur Regional - Saturday January 19 - 12pm -Pacific - BRACKET
International Regional #1 - Wednesday January 23 - 9am Pacific - BRACKET
International Regional #2 - Wednesday January 30 - 9am Pacific - BRACKET

Satellites:
American Satellite - Wednesday February 6 - 12pm Pacific - BRACKET
European Satellite - Wednesday February 6 - 6am Pacific - BRACKET
Korean Satellite - Wednesday February 6 - 9pm Pacific - BRACKET
International Satellite (Top 3) - Wednesday February 13 - 9am Pacific - BRACKET

There are also some invited players to IPL6 that include the following:

Invites:

Leenock (IPL5 Champion)
viOLet (IPL5 Runner up)
Polt (IPL5 3rd place)
12 Players from IPTL Finals Teams

To clarify, six players from each IPTL finals team will receive paid trips to IPL6 to compete in addition to playing the finals at the event.

For those doing math, this does not add up to 40 players and in fact is only 33 of the slots.

Additional invites and qualifiers are still TBD and will be announced in the coming months.

IPTL Finals:
The finals of IPTL 2013 Season 1 will be played at IPL6 featuring the top 2 teams, still to be determined.

Both teams will have six players flown out to the event, but are free to bring any additional players to the event with their own budget, or if they qualify to IPL6 through additional means.

IPL6 Heart of the Swarm:
IPL will be holding an 8 person Heart of the Swarm Invitational at IPL6.

There will be both a qualification process and invite process for this tournament. Both are TBA.

Information Still To Be Determined:
Several player slots for Wings of Liberty
Qualification / Invite process for Heart of the Swarm
Broadcasting for qualifiers
Map pool for IPL 6 (Qualifier already pool already set)
Prize pool

For the information that hasn't been determined yet, we would like to hear from you, the community.

What do you want to see for the qualifiers and main events of IPL6?

What do you want to see from IPL for the rest of 2013 in Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm?

Let us know in the comments, or by tweeting @IGNProleague or emailing me at ffields@ign.com. We always could use more feedback.

Really interesting decision to have a WOL tournament with HOTS already out and most likely after MLG has run a HOTS tournament.

I'm sure IPL6 will be awesome.

Interestingly, it might be the last big WoL tournament. That in itself holds some prestige.

Are there other big tournaments happening after this?

Does the "american" region include south america? If not, what it is in the "international" region? What are the eligibility rules for the "amateur" regional?

Thanks in advance!

America does include both North and South America. International is all players.

Amateur is defined as a player who has earned less than $1000 in live events.

Wow, I'm surprised you guys are doing WoL. This changes things for a lot of players ( most players not in GSL, or the next two IEM's ) who are playing HOTS full time now.

Awesome. My favourite thing about IPL events has been that they reward a HUGE amount of their players with prize money. Seeing the top 32 or whatever getting at least something is really good to see, and in my opinion where eSports should be heading - otherwise, even if you are really good, you will still lose out to the top Koreans for the money spots and you're essentially working at a loss.

I'd like to see the IPTL taken a bit more seriously with a bit more money involved. But I love the devotion IPL shows to the community and the players and I'm very much looking forward to who will win the qualifiers.

I like how IPL is returning to their original format of 40 players rather than 72. Seeing 72 players just overloaded the event, but 40 is going to be more balanced and time efficient. This should provide incentive to see the best of the best in the tournament, because there will only be 40 players of the highest caliber rather than an extra 32 players who might dilute the quality of play. I love having the IPTL finals as well, and the HotS beta should be nice. This will likely be the finale of WoL and a closing to the years of WoL played. IPL rarely disappoints, so I know this will be good.

I really hope the map pool uses some of the Kespa maps and some new ones. Just anything besides the stale maps like Antiga, Ohana, and Daybreak.

I hope you reconsider the decision to use WoL for the main event. I went to IPL5 and thought it was fantastic, but I don't want to watch a WoL tournament 2 weeks after HotS release. No desire to go or watch now :[

not sure how i feel about having a WoL tournament when HotS will be out. Really makes it difficult on the players. We need to be making the change to one game ASAP.

To people saying that they should switch to HotS, one thing to keep in mind is that they are also doing IPTL, which kind of has to be WoL since the people who make it to the finals will get their via their WoL skills. That said I still question it being WoL and think it may be a better idea for it to be HotS.

Can we have tournaments that happen on Sundays? Like Sunday afternoons... seems to be the time that works best for majority of people (School during week, not in morning for religious, ect).

Might make sense to do HOTS Qualifiers on Sunday O_O

Didn't they run into problems when they held all the qualifiers on the weekends (a lot of pros at other tournaments couldn't enter)

Maybe a bit too many, but overall I like the idea of the IPTL finalists being seeded into the event. It rewards those who play in their team league, thereby making it more prestigious. It also brings 12 top tier in the world players to IPL6, which is good for the viewers.

Is it going to be like IPL4 with groups stage or only W/L brackets (like ipl5) ? I personally prefer the first option or maybe like mlg ?

Well if they made it to the finals of IPTL, they certainly are top-tier players and can play with the best of the best. Taking up more than a quarter of the spots might be excessive to some, but it saves time and organization on qualifiers.

Thing is, in a few weeks all pro's will switch to HotS fulltime. How much time will they actually spend to prepare for this event then?

I was going to say that as well. I don't think IPL will get away by doing WoL. Players are going to throw a fit, and rightfully so. That's similar to the hybrid proleague -_- (which never existed)

Yeah I agree although not as bad to that extent since the game isn't THAT different but still.

I dislike WoL, I am sick of watching mass infestor/bl/corr in all zerg match ups (even starting to happen in zvz -_-) so once hots is out i'm not watching anymore WoL tourneys.

Well having WoL instead of HotS is doing it safe, I don't know why so many people want HotS just 2 weeks after release. Probably could cause a lot of upsets, as well being the last big WoL tournament.

Unless I was told wrong, I believe blizzard has said hots beta will run until the official release. The guy may have been wrong but I read it on reddit and TL about that.

I can't imagine pro's not practicing hots starting february at the latest. I imagine they will start practicing when there's about a month left of beta, because there is no reason not to.

meh why stay with the 1k in live events for amateur qualification.... Im freaking team less, no contract ever, and yet someone that lives in a pro team house will win... Is there any reason why this continues to be a trend? Or is there any way to skirt around the fact of 1k in live events, Such as they only count for MLG or major tournaments? as the wording of everything makes me sad as a teamless unknown player that wins to much in smaller and local events.

regardless looking forward to playing in the qualifiers I am eligible for =P

One thing I would like to see returning to IPL is group play, could you possibly do something like 32 player (24 seeds+8 OB) group stage followed by double-elim bracket with 8 seeds in upper bracket already. This would require removing a qualifier but I don't think removing one can hurt (removing one spot from the international qualifier could work). The group stage could be round robin and then have first place get ro16 and 2nd place get ro1 losers bracket.

Alternatively: You could follow the same format but instead of having an open bracket, use the HOTS invites as your remaining 8 spots. Of course, to make the HOTS invites have some meaning, make HOTS an ESF v.s. Kespa format and simply invite the top 4 esf and top 4 kespa players that didn't qualify naturally. More top Koreans can never be a bad thing, especially when the play a story-line filled side tournament on a game that they have been playing for two weeks.

I can hope!

Probably will not watch this if it's going to be WoL. As others have said, it doesn't really make much sense to regress to Wings after the expansion is released. Remember Hybrid Proleague?

seems like IPL guys want IPL6 and IPTL to be remembered as the last WoL individual and team leagues. 2013 GSL season 1 will be the last WoL tourny for me.

Map Pool:

IPL had a pretty damn solid map pool of:
IPL Ohana • IPL Cloud Kingdom • IPL Metropolis • IPL Entombed Valley • IPL Daybreak • IPL Abyssal City

Seeing how Ohana is a goner because of the imbalance replace it with Bel'Shir Vestige.
Maybe add on another new map as well that haven't really been in a Premier Tournament.
The curse is real

I didn't see anyone mention this yet but isn't Polt kinda on a hiatus for studying? He's invited but is it sure he's going to play?
I thought with him leaving TSL and going to America he wouldn't be playing in tournaments for a while, if at all.

Please bring back the group stage, it's difficult to follow one huge bracket. So much is missed, and way too many things go unnoticed if everyone plays at the same time. There's a reason why Dreamhack / HSC are such a treat to follow (and in my opinion this is a major factor).

Didn't they run into problems when they held all the qualifiers on the weekends (a lot of pros at other tournaments couldn't enter)

No - they're problems were that next to NO ONE knew they were happening.

The qualifiers were not played during any major tournaments

I assume the amateur regional is on US server? If so, can you still play it while also playing the EU regional?

I would like to see an almost compleatly new map pool, maybe hire some mapmakers to make 4 or 5 new maps, and then only keep Cloud Kingdom and Either Daybreak/metropolis. It would also be nice to see some underused maps like grand lagoon being used.

So IPL6 will likely be the last big WoL tournament. Sounds cool, I hope the players haven't completely switched to HotS until then.

On the other hand it doesn't make a lot of sense doing a lot of qualifier on WoL for a tournament which would be on HotS. I think this why they will do it on WoL.

Awesome! Looking forward to it.

I was hoping for HOTS at IPL... I want to see an underdog like Idra or WhiteRa win because they've been practicing HOTS!

It will be way more interesting this way...unpredictable is more fun. I hope IPL reconsiders.

Oh yeah, I didn't think about that at all. Good point.
I think we might either see go to strategies that people are just very familiar with or maybe some play inspired by HotS.

Hi guys,

The map pool is on the brackets which we've released to all registered players. The map pool is:

Ohana
Daybreak
Entombed Valley
Cloud Kingdom

We'll be introducing new maps through a map tournament coming SOON TM, but we didn't want to spring new maps on players on such short notice!

I'm not sure if it's specifically against TL policy (with my luck it probably is), but it might be a good idea to have a new post for each qualifier. I think that one of the problems last time around was that the consolidated post with all of the qualifier dates got buried under more recent posts.

And the weekend before will be the first MLG which will be HOTS, it will be interesting to see how players do from one to the other.

I don't think IPL has ever streamed their qualifiers live. They broadcast some of it from replays later usually.

That's just great.
Regionals internationals and satellites.
You seriously should rework this convoluted mess of a system.
You'd think that you'd get the message after some events had barely any sign-ups.

I dislike the location, the majority of IPL's have been in vegas which makes it difficult for me to go, being 19. I understand it, west coast, easier access for koreans. Its just frustrating because i want to attend a live event, gah!

Go, Kas! Only need to beat two Zergs, Bly and Snute/Hanfy and either Targa or BratOK. Can't be too hard, right?

Great, Kas 2-0ed Bly in a 24 minute and a 32 minute game. Hard work, but it paid off.

4-0 so far, Targa next, maybe he can really win, it looks like he's in good shape.

Edit: Oh wow, Hanfy doing work, 2-0 over Snute. Germany represent. :p

Kas down 0-1 vs Targa. T_T

Kas out, 0-2 vs Targa. T_T

One of Targa and Hanfy will be at IPL 6, as long as someone is willing to send them if they don't win the finals of the qualifier.

NA bracket has been swapped constantly, it was never final. I've seen at least three different versions of it.

It'd be cool if they could do two amateur tournaments, one for EU and one for US, or three to include Korea.

Hopefully I can make time to participate :D.

Yeah he said on twitter he wasn't sure he would try.

If ST makes the finals (they're in semis now) it's likely he would get a seed.

Why was the American qualifier played earlier than the Korean? Shouldn't it be earlier by three hours?

The Korean qualifier was played on the next day in their time (to some of us it started on the 16th, to them it started on the 17th). Our qualifier was just played on an earlier date

Someone on Huk's stream (he was streaming all his games until that semi-finals match with Ostojiy) said that he checked the match history (for the account Huk was using) and it was 2-0 over Ostojiy I'm sad that a great Canadian (university student) like Ostojiy had to be knocked out, but glad that another great Canadian made it through

How come there isn't a America Regional thread?

+ Show Spoiler +
From what i saw in Match History for the account Huk used, he lost 2-0 to rainieyang (who is this btw?) in the finals . .. .so he's qualified but unfortunately not a paid spot

IPL will be casting the qualifiers from semis onward, so they want to keep those results under wraps until they do. They don't cast the American qualifiers until next week AFAIK, that's why there isn't a thread.

First off it's a she and she's a Taiwanese singer. Obviously we're looking at the first female bonjwa in the making.

Stephano only needs to practice 3 hours a day? Pshhh, this girl doesn't even need practice to pwn everyone.

And pretty too =D

All hail our new Bonjwa!

EDIT: But if I had to guess it's Galaxy IMO.

News from the amateur bracket

+ Show Spoiler +

RagnaroK got walked over, FakeWhiteRa 2-0's Dzerzhinsky (!!!), RemarK takes out ST_Brain, SoN (formerly of fnatic academy, now on ST) knocked out by someone I unfortunately haven't heard of.

So far in Round of 32: Pet (woooooo), Ryze, RemarK, modifyme (the person who beat SoN) and an impressive matchup between ST (formerly SlayerS, ZeNEX) Harrier and LucyPrime.

I think RagnaroK would have been the favorite otherwise.

FakeWhiteRa is Noname from Russia

ohhhh.

+ Show Spoiler +

He's made it ro32, that explains it seeing as he's one of the better russian players.
STZerO knocks out FXOElbegast.

ClassicPrime has the potential to grab first, just noticed he's there.
I think it's finally time to admit it might not be the year of Pet

Was a fun tournament today :D I wish there were amateur quals for each region, as a bunch of Code A Koreans on professional teams playing fulltime don't really seem like "amateur" players to me. But it's still awesome of IPL to be hosting so many well-run qualifiers, so take my comment with a grain of salt

He played well, it's hard to judge his skill from the games I played against him because he did blind 1-base colossus all-in both games to try to counter the build I used against Brain, but his micro and execution was very solid =) not surprised to see him in the top 4

T_T but why the score is 2-0? The bracket seems to be very wrong if half of results are 2-0 when it should be a walkover

Same with some of the MVP team.

It seems most of them managed to play (and advance).

How did you get the score? The bracket still doesn't show anything, and the battle.net profile is not useful because they played on cloaked maps.

Those are cloaked maps, so they always show a loss for both players. Damn, it's almost 6 am in Korea and Life has to go Paris today. I wonder what time he has to go to the airport, LOL! :p

I did not get it too... Do you have his battle.net account? If it is millenium it can be ForGG.
His Challonge Username name is KANGHO and only LosirA has KANGHO in his name so I do not know who is who and how can be LosirA connected with Tarson

I think it's a Korean player borrowing account and they're now playing on KR. Now Life just won a custom game on his KR account.

CombatEZ was an account Slayers players used, I think it was Cella's account. It could be any of the ex-Slayers players.

CombatEZ was an account Slayers players used, I think it was Cella's account. It could be any of the ex-Slayers players.

Okey thx for the info.

CombatEZ is AZUBUGenius

Thank you! Do you know btw who are MVPsC and ItsAllForHer?

I was about to freak out over aiRAbsolute. He was a player I recruited back when I was a manager for Team aiR. But now I am calm cause it was revealed that it was actually YongHwa.

A lot of the favorites got eliminated earlier than expected. Seeing Life eliminated, or HyuN losing 2-1 against cYong is pretty surprising.

3) Is CombatEZ Genius?
4) Does KeeN play on MVPDRG battle.net account and DRG on MVTteam and was it the same at International Regional 1?
5) Who is MVPsC?
6) Why we have TOP and oGsTOP who is who?
7) Does LosirA play again on MillTarson account?
All this and mb additional information is necessary for updating wiki page thx in advance

Kevin Knocke @KevinKnocke

I think we can fit in 64 players into an open #HotS bracket at #IPL6. Sound good? We'll probably have more info tomorrow.

Its almost as if IPL is taking all the things MLG is currently lacking, and incorporating them into their tournament.

similar though i would need to plan and make arrangements to get to that 100%, but 64 man open is really small and going to fill up quickly.

thanks for that post phoenixvoid, hope the announcement and stuff tomorrow is good!

Ya well lucky for me I am going there over my spring break (which IPL6 is going in) so I don't have to worry about it at all ^_^.

all I have to do is worry about getting a pass before they sell out ><.

anybody else concerned about the fact that of the 40 players, it is likely that only 5 will be foreigners?
