In the same regard that players like Flash are insanely popular in starcraft.

Pretty much htise Skill & better quality games>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 'Relating to the players'. Which I don;t understand tbh. With translators at every event and some Koreans speaking english and interacting with the scene and showing more and more personality. I don;t get why people can relate to Naniwa but not to Koreans?
I mean I have my favorite players as well, and it pains me to see Polt eliminated so close to the real money rounds.
But I just don't understand this "If my guys are out I'm not watching anymore" mentality. It's poor sportsmanship.
I love the players, but I love the game way more. It's the same in any sport. I'll always cheer for the Lakers, but I'm going to watch the playoffs regardless of who's playing.

See the guy who I was replying to. I was just making a statement that losing to someone in Code A can happen to anyone and Flash did lose to someone in code A, not really indicative of Naniwa's skill. Who IMO, when he's on top of his game, is a great player.

Hey! Mini can use reavers well!

Indeed, and speaking as a Malaysian here everybody is a fan of an English football team but more than half don't give a fuck about local football.

Or maybe, JUST MAYBE he is more emotionally attached to Naniwa, the kid that brought us "Chill get out", "Not winning a tournament sucks" and other goodies compared to Rain, which the SC2 fans barely know :O

People can enjoy whatever they want. But it's not really in question that the majority of people watch SC2 (or really, any other sport in existence) to watch their favorite players win. You're in the minority.

ummm... Aren't Ronaldo and Messi the very elite of the game? You've got to pick someone who's popular but not really that good. Maybe Beckham?

Sure everyone "cheers" for their countrymen... but my favourite cricket team, soccer team, MMA fighter, basketball team or even tennis player isnt/arent Australian.
Not wanting to see the best in the world compete, for the sake of some obsessive "patriotism" to <everywhere but korea> is rather odd!

Not real. Many Real Madrid fans hate Ronaldo, and you won't hear any of them hating on the god Messi is. Most people root for their teams, but can enjoy good football from other teams aswell. More of a point would be, if there is a Real Madrid vs Barcelona Champion's league final, wouldn't you watch it even if you are not from Spain ?

Doesn't mean most people give a shit about most players who are still in the tournament though.

Really? Because both games came 100% down to a maxed out final battle in which Naniwa made a bad decision in engagement position so he lost. Why even play the rest of the game? Rain even said it in the interview: "I was behind but I knew I would win if we maxed out so I just sat there and waited."
