Bonjwa or no, when HOTS comes out somewhere next year i can think everyone can look back at WoL and say without a single shade of doubt that Mvp was the most consistent and accomplished player during those 2+ years. I think that's an accomplishment in and of itself.

MVP said he should be considered a bonjwa if he wins the upcoming finals. I don't think the word means as much as you guys do for MVP to be willing to call himself a bonjwa. Really there's never going to be a player as consistent as in Brood War simply because the skill cap is lower and there are way too many tournaments. If the only tournament that existed in SC2 was GSL then MVP would be ridiculously dominant. I don't think him losing tournaments that he flew half-way around the world to participate in should count so much against him.

MVP is like 2004-2007 NaDa, he just shows up and wins tournaments from time to time, and keeps doing it. Now you might say "well Nada's a bonjwa so there" but NaDa is a bonjwa because of how dominant he was in 2002-03 when he won almost every KPGA tour there was and an OSL (at the same time) on top of that.

Looking at it Nada won 3 tournaments in 2002 and 1 in early 2003. MVP won 3 GSLs and got to the finals and top 4 of another two during 2011 along with all his other accomplishments. How isn't that comparable? Then there is win-rate where 2011 MVP is only 3% lower in win-rate than 2002 Nada.

Not even close. There were probably 4-5x the amount of tournaments in 2011 as in 2002. Try again.

No there wasn't. I'm just talking about GSLs. There were 6 MSLs/OSLs in 2002 and a half of another OSL. There were only 9 GSLs.For Nada out of those seven tournaments he won 4, didn't make it into two and placed ro8 in the other. For MVP he won 3 placed second in another, placed top 4 in another two, placed top 32 in 2, and didn't make it into one. I agree that Nada's is better but I don't think those 2 accomplishments are extremely far away from eachother. Especially since after that year Nada didn't win another major league for several years. MVP has won one this year and might win a 2nd.

For starter Mvp never won GSL back to back. He never been in three consecutive finals. Never was in four finals out of five consecutive finals not mentioning winning them. Even if you count GSL and Blizzard Cup only. He was never consistent to a point of being untouchable.

Pretty sure that there are more GSL than BW tourneys, and the mappool and balance were favorable for terrans in the first two GSL that Mvp won so having a good TvT was almost enough to win the whole thing.

Guys, to be a bonjwa is to be untouchable, and like it or not MVP has had some average inconsistency with tournaments between his GSL wins. Even if he becomes the two-time GSL champion this year he's still dropped out of OSL, GSL S1 + 3, WCG and a number of foreign tournaments. Unfortunately, even if he wins back to back S4 + S5 there will probably be debate since he won't be in a lot of other high profile tournaments come the end of the year like he was last year.

MVP came far closer last year to this magical B-word than he has now. WCG, Blizzcon, GSL August, October runner-up, and 3 x semi finals appearances. At that point, if he had won any 2 of those 4 I feel like the word would have been far more closely scrutinised then.

As it stands, MVP is just the best player in sc2. Can he be beaten? Sure, it's an upset most of the time, but unfortunately not all the time. I'm one of many that laugh at writers and people for betting against MVP (especially in GSL), but that alone should tell you a story of how he's still not really a 'bonjwa'.

As I said a few posts ago, I don't know if anyone in sc2 will come close to this given the sheer saturation of tournaments and volatility of sc2 as it stands in what are still the 'early days' knowing expansions are coming. MVP's just the best player. Hands down. But he doesn't always look like he might be the best player on the day. That's why he's not a bonjwa. As saddening as it is =(

EDIT: Gah, totally sidetracking this thread...should talk about this somewhere else imo...

So we have WCS final without Korean terran. Seriously it sux, PvZ, ZvP, ZvZ & PvP are less interesting to me than all the terrans matchup. I blame MVP & Taeja, the buff destroyers.

Don't know why the last 10 pages have been about MVP. His fans are really insecure at almost losing to Rain. Like it or not, these kespa players are bound to catch up and surpass gsl players.

The sheer fact, that there is a discussion about MVP being a bonjwa or not, means that he isn't.
It's as simple as that if you read the definition.
