You need 2 wins, but if you have 1 amazing player, 1 horrible player and 2 mediocre players, one of the mediocre players gets a "free win" while the other gets a "sure loss". If the mediocre players play 1-1 the one with the free win advances. I don't see how round of robin is worse than that. At the highest levels of gameplay, your initial assumption is a logical fallacy. Everybody can beat everybody on any given day; there are no easy wins. Even Suhosin was on the brink of defeating Mvp in group stages just because he chose the right strategies. The round robin format has multiple instances where it would be advantageous to lose a game, or there is no incentive to win one. In winners' format you always want to win every series. So you deny the obvious disadvantage the GSL-system has by pretending the opponents skill level doesn't matter. Yeah, I'll take you seriously for sure. In the GSL skill level is at best indiscernible in a Bo3 series. It can easily distinguished over the course of a Bo100. Maybe if you organized a pros vs scrubs tournament this would be a relevant concern. Your whining about skill level is irrelevant since there will always be disparities in skill level in every single group. The goal of a tournament format is not to create the most even groups, but to provide the greatest incentive to win every single game played. Round robin has been proven to not be this format multiple times in the past. P.S. Assembly results have already contradicted your baseless whine about skill level. That's just not true. False. MarineKing has been beaten multiple times by zergs who take advantage of his greedy openers with 2 base all-ins. Is he a better player than Byul? It's hard to argue otherwise. Can he win the majority of a Bo100 against Byul? Undoubtedly and then some. Can Byul beat him in a Bo3 by exploiting MKP's weaknesses? Yes. Does it matter if he is overall worse than his opponent? No. All that matters is that he outplays his opponent in 3 games. And this frequently happens at all levels of competition.
Indiscernible over a short series, easily discernible over a long series. It's like comparing two lines that are not quite parallel. At the beginning you cannot tell the difference; by the 10th mile they will be worlds apart. This is why skill is determined by consistent results over time. Gumiho beat Mvp twice in GSL format despite being the worse player, but he has less accomplishments over the last year. But that was irrelevant because Gumiho played better in those two series.
Like I already said, fairness is not the priority in a tournament format. Fairness is impossible to implement. People will always get lucky with groups, lucky with playstyles, lucky with information about their pool opponents. The fairest type of format would be an impossible one to execute.
Tournaments only determine who is the best at the tournament itself. Your concept itself makes no sense: why should the best players be rewarded if they do not play the best at that tournament?
That is not a "real" problem in the sense that it creates an actual issue with the format. It just doesn't agree with what you think the purpose of a tournament format is.

Pretty balanced groups with C being the strongest. I doubt MaNa and Nightend will stand a chance against TaeJa. His TvP is stupidly good. I'm also exitef for Hero vs MC, should be a good PvP series.
