so if players think a game is Bo1 and then later it turns out to be Bo3 , it should be still a Bo1 because both players thought it is a Bo1?

Probably not, as both agreed on playing a Bo3 before the series started.

I dont understand why he didnt wait 10 sec for +1 to finish on roaches before attacking.... there was no pressure on him, he is on 3 bases with good economy. He could have just sat and waited for the push not charge lings vs zealots
So.. this Earth, nice planet you might say- WRONG!!

As stated above, it was clearly explained to the players and the casters it was a Bo5 before the match even started..

Bo5 was told to the players before the match.

Our apologies for not having it clearly written in the rules at that time so it would not confuse the viewers.

P.S : We did just edit them right now on the leagueinfo part to stop the confusion.

You still appear to have confused the players as well. And it wasn't 'unclearly' a part of your rules, it wasn't a part of your rules at all.

That doesn't really answer the question of why it's different than the other qualifier. Was it explained to the players why the rules were suddenly changed in the middle of the qualifier series?

Edit: By the way, rules exist to resolve confusion. The rules were there beforehand. You guys got confused. The solution is not to change the rules to cover your confused asses, but to stick to the rules.

The players agreed to play a Bo3 last qualifier, because it was later then.

The finals were always intended to be Bo5. Last qualifier Bo3 happened due to a miscommunication and was not changed since both players started the game being told it was Bo3, upgrading it to Bo5 afterwards does not make it better, just worst.

The leagueinfo for this cup were a copy/paste, each player is reminded of the rules at anytime during the tournament. Leagueinfo is a guide provided for everybody to be aware of the general ground. Our mistake here, and out deepest apologies from the ESL Asia staff (we are the one organizing the qualifiers), was to not put too much weight on the leagueinfo towards our audience that might be interested in it.

why would they need to agree to a bo3 when the rules stated that all matches are bo3 - you can't have admins tell them its bo5 just before the match. Players need to be able to rely on the written rules which are made before the tournament , not on some admins suddenly telling them something different.

They didn't "change" the rule. They had an incorrect information on their website. Big difference.

If they changed it to Bo3, that would be changing the rule to cover their ass.

i guess if you look at it from inori's position he'd've been hella pissed if it got stuck at a bo3

Uhm where were the correct rules stated? If they were not available for the players anywhere before the tournament, it's silly to say that they didn't changed them. Should players just "guess" that it is bo5?

He might have played a bit safer and not died to that dumb baneling bust if he knew he was one game away from elimination too.

These games are so sloppy, don't know how this ended up being the finals haha.

players not reading the rules and suffering from it had happened a lot before, its the players fault if they suffer from that - if they benefit from it, they are lucky...

As far as I'm concerned, the written rules are the rules. Doesn't matter if that's not what they meant to put on there; players can't read minds. Doesn't matter what an admin says; the admin doesn't talk to every player. However, the information written on the website is available to everyone. If I were a player and I wanted to know the rules that's where I would go. So if they fucked up that information and it wasn't what they intended then, tough shit, they should stick with those written rules and "fix" it next time with a proper announcement.

I'm sorry, but... What the hell, IEM? The rules clearly state "all matches bo3". Yesterdays finals WAS BO3! And now, you change rules to bo5 right after TLO wins a bo3? Are you kidding me? Why would you not want a foreigner to win a Korean Qualifier? Is it against the rules? NO. Does it hurt TLO, Team Liquid and the SC2 scene? YES. I don't get. I'm ending this post here, because i don't want to get banned...
If you make no mistake, yet still lose - you don't understand the game. Spiral out, keep going.

Intentions are no Rules. Rules need to be written down and be available beforehand of the tournament to be legit. Anything else is just arbitrary.

Can someone sum up the situation? Imo the rules stated on the website are the only "true" rules, especially when the other qualifier was played that way.
