Hello everyone! This is the official thread for the one and only Korean Regional for our next LIVE event, IGN Pro League 5! The winner of this Regional will earn free travel and hotel stay for the live event. They will also earn an automatic seed into Winners Round 3 at the event. There will only be one Regional for North America, one for Europe, and one for Korea. Each player may only participate in one of the North American, European, or Korean Regionals. There will be one additional International Regional that will be open to everyone. You will want to play your absolute best to secure this amazing prize!
Unfortunately, we are not yet able to announce the date or location of our live event. All we can tell you is that it is coming up soon and these qualifiers were scheduled in a way that ensures that we have time for travel preparations to be made. If for any reason, a player who qualifies in these online qualifiers cannot make the trip to our live event, their registration fee will be refunded and we will use the Regional results to determine who will receive the free travel, hotel, and tournament seed instead.
Korean Regional: Sunday, Jun 24 6:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) You can register any time before Saturday, Jun 23 6:00am GMT (GMT+00:00). There is an entry fee of $10 (USD).
Players should be online and ready to play within 30 minutes of the event's start time. Please be aware that these qualifiers can and will take a lot of time. Forfeits and walkovers will be used if needed. Each round is best of 3, with start maps labeled on the bracket. Players may be asked to wait to begin a series so that their match can be broadcast.
Servers: All games will be played on the Korean server.
Spectators Rule: No observers/spectators are allowed for these games. IGN Pro League admins and casters may make games for players to help things run smoother and either referee or cast the matches.
Bracket Link: Not ready until registration closes.

IPL have really established themselves as one of the premier starcraft 2 leagues (or events), anyone whose anyone seems to be going, all that we have to do is sit back and enjoy the show.
Also hoping to see more ST and some Prime, MVP + IM players appear. By comparison it looks like almost the entire NSHS, TSL, FXO and SlayerS roster have appeared, which is pretty exciting.

To me it shows how seriously Korea takes a chance at a free trip to IPL5, despite not knowing when it will be held. I (obviously) think it's awesome that 80ish top-tier Korean players are willing to duke it out just to be able to play at a tournament in the U.S. There's no way all of them would be able to come over and play in a live event, and if it was a free for all qualifier like we've had in the past, there's no way players from other regions would be able to squeak through to earn a spot.
Wow. That's the most stacked tournament entry roster I've seen outside of GSL. This is ridiculous. I assume people like Nestea and aLive, etc., aren't here because they already have spots due to their performances in IPL4?

I was talking mainly about the lack of an Open Bracket which many of the players unable to make it through this almost impossible bracket would normally attend.

Just don't see enough of the IM top dogs.
Happy, Seed and YongHwa are already pretty sick players from IM. But yeah, no Nestea, Mvp or Losira. Would be nice to see them apply.
Still bummed you didn't give the most deserving player (ok fiiiine since people will whine at me, tied with aLive for most deserving =P) Squirtle an invite =(

Oh sweet looks like MVP and Nestea did end up signing up. Hope they do better in this than the HSCV qualifier.
Damnit that means Nestea is going to have to start with a ZvZ... He's been losing that matchup so much lately... Iron Squid, GSTL twice, TSL4 qualifiers, and HSCV qualifiers.

Yes that was a grand time. I think picking DongRaeGu in the GSL nominations turned the zerg gods against him. Since then aside from Stephano at IPL4 I don't think he's won a ZvZ.

annnnd 2-0
Well at least he can win ZvZ against low tier players still =/

That's pretty much my feeling. I was going to be really worried about what happened to mma if he had lost this. He's been slumping pretty hard it seems
why didnt they cast mvp lucky its an awesome remmatch. can somebody tell me how they process with casting ? like do they get multiples games of the same round, do they enter multiple games and alternate casting, etc ..

Yeah, floating orbitals and mules will win from here.
I think it's more of his micro saving him. He won some battles that not a lot of players could have won. Of course the Mules kept him in the game so he could get an army to micro with in the first place.
On June 24 2012 18:02 -Strider- wrote: Wow, Puzzle really threw this game, he could have just walked on Mkp's production and win several times.
Yeah, this basically. He had the game three times basically, and every single time he decided to either let MKP rebuild as many units as possible before punishing him, or not do anything at all.
Nice game 1, the difference in worker count really worked in MKP's favour in the lategame there, his armies weren't particularly well balanced but with good control and a big supply advantage in them he was able to make it work enough to hold Puzzle off.
Sometimes I'm thankful for the ability to float orbitals hehe <3
awesome game, might be low econ, but you could literally feel how, if one of the player invested any more amount into their economy, their army would be stomped by the opponent.
Might be worth pointing out that no way in hell MKP would've dealt well with DT tech in the late stages of the game given the way he plays(no pfs/turrets).

Yes because Puzzle could afford DTs in a low econ game.

Meh... They both played extremely sloppy. Don't know what was particularly "epic" about it.
What was sloppy? They had huge mind games to try to get the fight where they wanted & there were fights almost all the time.
MKP throwing away Medivacs and Vikings for free engaging in poor situations. Puzzle disengaging and/or doing nothing when he could have walked over MKP in multiple situations. Puzzle losing expos for free even with observers all over the map. In one situation there was a scan on Puzzles army with an observer on MKPs. The observer was out of range of the scan but Puzzle took care of that for him, moving the observer in range and getting it killed.

Sure he could, game wasn't that low econ and one dt from time to time doesn't cost that much, is also annoying, and would've forced MKP to constantly move units back after losing 2-3 mules, extremely worth it.

GSTL Gumiho vs Shine was pretty damn good, if you're looking for something like that! :D
Just me, or does every Terran hate on watching every non-Terran matchup, and then they hate on balance once they get to see the Terrans play? People need to find some joy in this game ^^

I guess sC can't beat Symbol, so all my (terran) hope is on MKP
sC actually did beat symbol in the straight up game during their code A match (Standard sC style, god given macro allowed him to carefully control never ending waves of attacks which wore symbol down) before symbol busted him twice so sC could do it if he plays carefully because symbol's busts are deadly.

Well, I do enjoy good games, no matter the matchup.
But pre-patch TvZ made up for the most good and tense games and the patch screwed that up. The matchup became less interesting, less back and forth, more turtle- and macro-ish. That's not a balance whine btw.
And PvZ is mostly 2-base Immortal allin or turtle with no aggression into Broodlords and Mothership dancing in slow motion until a vortex lands or the mothership falls and the game is over.
Of course the matchup can also produce good games, but it doesn't happen as often as in TvZ pre-patch.

Hyun definitely starting to come into his own though nowadays, always good runs and placings in events like this. Expecting a good Code A showing.
watch him lose to hyun after beating all the other zergs.
Hyun is really the most odd progamer, he seems to be able to play really well in non broadcasted games. But when he finally gets to a broadcasted game he looks beyond terrible

Haha, who knows eh.
Feels like the only threat to him now is if Yonghwa makes the finals imo
I wouldn't count out Man after he took out Byun. Violet could be tricky, too
I think San the Man is too tricksy aggressive and I think MKP always does well in games like that. Yonghwa is more about that defensive play till becoming a late game powerhouse and I think that's better vs mkp
thx dodgin. and yonghwa has always been a boss, its just he wasnt a complete player before, he was notably too passive in pvt etc, then protoss went through dark ages, all that stuff. he lost 1year of his career like that, but now hes stronger than ever, expect good to spectacular results from the guy
Can we not spoil results from bnet profiles yet. At least not without spoiler tags on them? I'm presuming they will try to get the stream back online and I'd like to actually watch the games without knowing beforehand what happened (again presuming both semis will be streamed) =p

Done, seems like they are broadcasting the remaining games so wont spoil further. For thoes wanting to check results here are Bnet pages
Monster > Jjakji does not bode well for NSH's ace Code A. (Same opponet round 1, who loses is out. Neither deserves Code B.) YongHwa and San are stepping their game up lately. So is Hyun. Nestea's performances are a bit saddening as for MMA's: only occasional success in online tournaments, lately.

That is both funny and heartbreaking at the same time , i'm not sure how to feel.
terrible decision making by yonghwa. Scouts double stargate into not canceling robo bay... Why does he even bother to scout if he doesn't react to what he sees whatsoever? oO
MKP is absolutely insane. No other terran can play like this. But he has so much gas. Just imagine if hed work out a sweet raven-transition into his builds. Would be so awesome. *-*

Well its only your opinion that ravens are good units ...
Like this build from MKP. Instead of earlier third OC, he goes for this timing attack that kinda stops the tech and creep from the zerg player. Doesn't hurt his economy, but the terran player gets his third up uncontested and thus isn't behind (especially considering the tech).
Meh, I agree that having a Live open bracket is, to a good extent, a waste of time and energy for everyone involved. But I am much less enthusiastic about the stronger regionalization that results from segregating more qualifying rounds. I can understand that we are still tribal beings who rave about having the same flag, but I personally find that there are more korean players whom I would watch over a foreigner rather than the opposite. Will IPL5 use Twitch.tv?
I have no idea how MKP held than and then recovered for the win. I mean he was ahead in tech a good amount but Hyun was up like 80 supply at one point O.o
The push far from his base leading to the suicide of all of Hyun's infestors just before his transition to broodlords and ultralisks was really weird and cost him the game
yea he was afraid to die for 10minutes when he was super safe with 40 supply lead so he spent all gas on banelings, also he kept losing infestors, and then he did the attack. i guess he realised he wasnt reading the game correctly and went mad or something

3-3 kicked in for MKP, as well as very bad unit control by Hyun with his infestors!

Cost efficiency.
Yeah, casters mentioned MKP having lost 9000 resources less in the midgame. That's a HUGE difference.
A lot of interesting match ups for sure. I agree with Ver + Show Spoiler +
