Nightend really shouldn't have any problems taking this, maybe biGs could give him a decent run, but I don't see NightEnd dropping more than a map or two.

Foreigners are rarely infallible. Even decent foreigners lose to unheard of people. And Nightend is a decent foreigner and surely the favorite, but not in the absolute top-tier of foreigners that you can expect always to win.

Based on recent results, i don't think that Nightend is that much of a favorite, we haven't heard of him for a while, except from that gstl game he lost recently It's the same for ToD, and we saw at DH that he wasn't in his best shape (and he lost 2-0 to bigs yesterday in MSI procup)
I think he is one of the favorites, but not the one, he's on par with bigs and lowely for me

Shouldn't be a problem in this case imo, he's one of the foreigners who trains most from what I've heard. He trains most hours a day in fnatic house.
Wow, I can't even imagine what the lag must be like for PandaTank when he plays from South Africa. I'll be cheering for him since I didn't even know there were any SC2 players in Africa.

Seems like he is on the venue, cheers for blizzard for paying everything
Why are they doing a replay analyzis of the games they've just shown? There are so many games going on, if there's downtime just jump into one of them or cast one from replays. This is kinda boring.
Great analysis and commentating from Hasu and Grubby. The games are nothing special just yet , but the tourny is in a really nice venue and the overall show is great.
On June 23 2012 20:10 Schelim wrote: just fill every second of downtime with Soe imo X.X
Haha. I second that.
But on a serious note; the production value and the look of the new studio is absolutely sick. Kaelaris is a fantastic host, if flanked by a good analyzer like Grubby or Hasu and Soe does a good job filling in the gaps and bridging downtime, being a total qtpi. And since this qualifer looks so professional it glues one to the stream, eventhough there are almost no big caliber players, except Nightend and maybe Lowely. And because of that, this is also a fantastic chance for the up and commers to make a name for themselves. So all in all, I freaking LOVE these european WCS events.
wtf just happened with twitch, i was watching on 720p because 720+ lags hard. then it suddenly removes the option and i can choose only between 720+ where it lags or 360p ?!?
NightEnD and biGs are clear favorites, but I'd love to see PandaTank grab a spot. Sad it's only two spots. Two spots for all the rest of Europe, three for Sweden and four for Germany... yes that makes sense...

It does from Blizzards perspective, which spends a huge amount of money to bring us this tournament. While the professional scene (the players, not the companies) is not the most significant one in EU (behind Sweden, Ukraine and Poland), the general player and viewer base is higher.
There are a lot of German GM and High Master player, but only one of them is a Top 10 foreigner (Socke) and a handful are in the next tier (Hasu, DF, Goody, TLO, etc.). This has to do with the low amount of true professional players in difference to Sweden (higher cultural acceptance of Esport) and countries in Eastern EU (lower living standard, thus more reason to play professional).
it makes sense if you consider the level of play in this tournament compared to the top players in sweden, germany, ukraine etc. kinda hurts me to say it given there's an austrian player in here and he's not even a favorite, but it's the truth.

The number of spots for each country are based on the amount of spots the sponsors want to give to that country. But really its been discussed to death at pretty much every WCS tournament.

I meant it more in the sense that Germany should have 2-3 spots, Sweden should have at least 4, UK should have 1-2, ect. Obviously the numbers make no sense, but I understand, it's the sponsors, and it sucks but we talk about it all the time. Just expressing a little frustration.
tournaments with map downvotes are so much more entertaining then losers choice right now. might be the commentators though, that i like this tournament despite terran missing mostly.

Correct regarding the UK. Very wrong regarding the Ukraine. The Ukraine is one of the best two eu countries, along with Sweden. And if there was a team match between the two countries it could be very close.

There was an interview on TL with some blizzard guy about this issue. Basicly he said that number of spots is determined by the playerbase of the country. So Germany has more players than for example Sweden so Germany gets more spots.

do they take into account the size of the country ?
This is why no protoss ever wants to play a standard PvZ lategame. you cannot beat spine spore queen corrupter infestor broodlord. there is no way to even trade with half the effeciency of the zerg.
ahmagad nightend. Why not throw down four stargates or warp in his main?
You simply cannot engage a spine crawler wall with broodlords and infestors no matter what. You have to mix in carriers or void rays or abuse his lack of mobility and starve him out of the game. That's simply been the only way to do it for a long time.
On June 24 2012 01:29 saksy2 wrote: why didn't Nightend make 100 cannons and 50 gates?
Cannons are useless against broodlords, gateway units are useless against infestor/broodlord/spine.
You need to either try and not engage and find the zerg out of position, or try and mass air. Spine/spore/infestor/broodlord is the ultimate composition in the game and the exact thing that the Tempest is meant to counter.

Watching that though, Nightend didn't abuse the lack of mobility that Zerg army had at all. He waited until way to late to sacrifice probes. He built a warp prism and didn't do anything with it. He didn't add on 15 more gateways and then send groups of blink stalkers around to cripple Bigs's production. He just sat there and let bigs get in the best position possible so that no vortex could really cause damage and so that his engage would have to come in contact with spines. That Zerg army is incredibly hard to defeat, but it's impossible if you just sit there and let the Zerg get in the best position humanly possible.

true, but its kind of hard on daybreak to do so. he chills on his xel naga and the only vulnerable bases are the top "4th" and the mainbase.
smart zergs put 4 spores and 10 spines at each of those and u cant do anything basically. no way to blink in on daybreak either. you can do stuff like that on antiga, agreed.

30 Blink stalkers that you can immediately remake with your 30 warpgates can definitely do plenty of damage in that scenario. Even a mix of Zealots and DTs warped in and then targeting the spores could've done damage. Nightend destroyed the 4th used recall, and then basically invited the Zerg to do whatever he pleased.
Note: I'm not trying to say it was going to be easy for Nightend to execute this or for him to win even with that pressure. That being said I think he has to try in that situation instead of just sitting around.

€: ty grubby.
No way? Queens? Spore crawlers? If Nightend made a switch during the passive phase Bigs wouldn't been able to prepare like that. Carriers are awesome, you can snipe infestors with them and with HT support it makes it even harder for him to fungal while he has to split unless he gets eaten by storm/vortex which in turn makes your carriers more effective because you can manuever around and try to snipe..
As I said Crank used them adequately in his games, and he stated that protosses should invest more into carriers, and I agree with him. Carriers underused!

Why didn't he make like 30 gateways, push, then remax then push again, rince & repeat
because he wouldve killed 20 supply and lost 100.
or he would have stayed at 170 supply and delayed the push, just like he did. While 2 speed prism float the zerg bases with 13 zealots constantly. Like a toss should do in this situation, if they overcommit on infestors. Later on you speed in from two sides and drop hts and feedback. You will most likey get 10+ infestors that way, unless you drop in the spines. And those suicide prisms really do well in wearing down the zerg if they have no bases left. Zerg deathball is just to slow to win against a toss on a big map.

It's really hard for toss to deal with a Zerg army like that. However he should have tried to -
1) Make MANY stargates with bank (not enough money in antiga, but he should have done so on daybreak) 2) Air upgrades 3) Make many carriers + voids 4) Archons 5) HT
That's the only only way he could have stood a chance

He had no spines or spores in his bases so you kill hatches, drones, tech and if he moves army out of position you can snipe opposite bases or spine walls when they are unprotected. Bigs had 5 bases not 3.
Imagine warp prism in the main, warp prism in the 3rd and stalkers sniping north bases. It was all unprotected. But yea, keep mocking people on forums like a dick instead of being constructive and blame everything on imbalance instead of looking for solutions.

In your league of play, I can imagine the Zerg not retreating/burrowing his drones nor transfusing the spire nor coming back fast enough with a few infestors/roaches. Sadly, this is not the case of top foreign Zerg.
Grubby knows that on some maps, lategame PvT is imbalanced, and that Protoss has to rely on gimmicky timings. He knew right at the beginning that NightEnd had no chance of winning since he did no midgame damage.
Man the broodlord/infestor composition is frustrating to play against. You need to rely on a really gimmicky archon toilet to take the game, otherwise you can't break the broodlord infestor composition :/
Your best hope is to harass and destroy the economy of the Zerg and trade inefficiently until they run out of bank and you keep mining bases.

This Giantt guy man.... he's just so tactically sound. Epic decision making all day, I think he really has the potential to be one of the top zergs with such a brain!
Giantt has been improving constantly during the past few months. The list of his "victims" is ever growing. I am confident that he will be able to overcome Nightend this time! Giantt fighting!
Does anyone know if those guys are using that mouse-wheel trick for casting infested terrans? It looks so fast, and I don't think the wheel trick is allowed in tournaments?
I have to say the production quality of the tournament is really good. The interviews with the players and map vetoing and of course Grubby + Khaelaris, make it so that there is not a single dull moment. The only problem is the lack of terrans!

As Grubby said there's no grounds for Nightend to get a legit regame...even if the admin misinformed Nightend. As unfortunate as it is it's Nightend's fault for not getting the proper info :/
I don't think NightEnd will get his regame unless Giantt relents. Even if someone gave him incorrect information it IS his own responsibility to know at the end of the day, no?

Absolutely correct, plus as someone before said it's a Blizzard tournament-> ladder maps/rules. Not very hard to remember.
They are actually playing on WCS <Mapname> maps (by Blizzard). Antiga Shipyard for example has cross spawns only and no gold expansions. The mappool (and all its changes) is communicated to the players via email before the tournament. Some of the players asked about spawns on specific maps just to make sure - unfortunately NightEnD didn't double-check and then was surprised to see Giantt spawn close to him.
I'm a bit confused with everyone saying "Its Nightend's responsiblity even if he asked an Admin". Isn't this statement an oxymoron? I agree that it's his responsiblity, but.......he asked a freaking Admin? You know... those guys who are supposed to supervise and monitor games?
Not saying it should be a re-game, but really, the weight of responsiblity shouldn't fall on Nightend.
