gogo Ret and Grubby <3

Grand finals BO3 or BO5? If it's BO5 i'll check the NL Grand Final. Ret vs Grubby BO5 is always entertaining.
Btw, shame Feast didn't attend.

Can I come watch this live?

Pholon, we might be driving down, message meeee
|
All matches will be Best-of-Three. The player coming from the loser bracket will have to win two BO3-series though.
[Edit] Pholon, Martjin: You definitely can. There's enough room for dozens of people and our bar in the studio will be open. PM me!

mm I think uThermal is Protoss?
Also yes Pholon come! <3

I misinformed you, Kaelaris... Sorry! He used to play Protoss and is playing T nowadays.

So we want see the uThermal pvp build anymore? ;D I remember Grubby using that strat, failing horribly, then playing against uthermal who used the strat and demolished Grubby. So much fun Also, I am quite sad Harstem dropped out in his worst matchup against the second best zerg of europe two times. I think he could have beaten uThermal with ez and had a shot against Grubby as they are practice partners. Best nl player in my heart <3

ps. without ticket you can't get in! it is simple to register with me but the esl tv studio has a certain number of seats - we cannot let more than 60 people in. Thank you .

netherland had a bad grid with ret and grubby same side and then loosers comes in same site on looserbracket, so harstem lost to ret in WB and to ret in LB ...
otherwise i would say easy that ret grubby and harstem best 3 guys so uThermal got hardcore lucky still gl

Hey, what if we could do something special on Sunday for Grubby because it is his birthday today and on Sunday he will be in the studio with all of us ... we could at least sing a song? ^^

anyone who says uThermal was lucky has obviously never seen a game of him lately. His builds are so well planned, his execution is mostly flawless and with the amount of practice he had in the couple last weeks he might even be able to take BO3's off of Grubby and ret. my bets are placed on uThermal.
|
|
Anyone suggesting uThermal can't take games of these guys should do their homework. Favorites are going to have to be orly(for BE), ret/grubby(for NL), sure, but no one is safe. Personally I said 4 or so months ago that within a year we'll see orly take a big EU tournament. So consider the first shots fired if he comes out on top tomorrow (which he should).
|
I am really looking forward to this

If you think Orly wouldn't have a good chance to take down Feast, I've got more news for you buddy. And it's a little pathetic to blame ESL when a player doesn't show. You can blame a tournament organisation for a lot of things, but a player not showing up is on the player.
|
The broadcast just started, first match of Orly vs. Makouni coming up in a couple of minutes!

Looking at the brackets no terrans live in Belgium... what a great country ^_^

Feast had exams.
Orly should take it. Lol @ no english knowledge at all from makouni :')

does anyone know how the 2k are distributed? very good comeback by makouni
|
makouni has no sentries, that's gonna hurt
|

I don't know anything about makouni, but I can assume this is his first major/live event? He's playing pretty sloppy.

He is sixteen years old and yes, this is most likely his first real live event.
BTW, the prize money distribution for the top 3 looks like this:
1. $800,- 2. $500,- 3. $240,-

Yeah cause its pretty hard to do and Curse just switched race and doesnt do it right. Tal Darim is btw the map where noone would be doing Mech. You cant get a 4th Base. Also: Grubby >>>>>>>> Curse ^.^

I didn't know how to beat what uThermal did before Grubby shows me how.

sigh, mech isnt working as long as thors still have energy bars, blizzard should change the strike cannon into cooldown ability again and remove the energy from thors

he switched ages ago and is rank 1 masters, "no idea what he is doing" is a bit harsh.. He had 200/200 when grubby only had 160, grubby just handled it amazingly well.

makes thor rushes stronger then they should be, because immortals get kind of pointless.
uthermals positioning wasnt too great, and some blueflame hellions wouldve helped. Also, he didnt have any ghosts, what makes the composition even stronger in lategame

He missed his qualifier, because he had an exam I believe.

So what was his gameplan after killing the third? Did he think he could bait Gruby into lossing his whole Protossarmy? Why didnt the expand? He would run out of Minerals soon because of Mules. Waiting outside a wide area with Thors and Marines etc was pretty bad. he could expand behind after realising that Grubby wouldnt throw away the game. But he didnt. So he just waited for Grubby to roflstomp him.
The lionger he wasit outside the more Energy the Thors would have. The longer he waits the more Storms has Grubby. The longer he waits the more powerful Grubbys army gets. Thats bad decisionmaking. He had 2 options. But he took the thrid: loose the game.
Game 1 wasnt good too. You dont want to play Mech on Tal Darim because you cant get a 4th.
I may not be korean grandmaster but im meching since beta and know my stuff.

uThermal, nothing personal but please don't beat Ret, we need our two best players to advance to have a chance to get someone into the global finals! Dutch national pride is on the line here!

cmon ret plz win

Has this guy not cheesed in any games? Im not like a ret fanboy but it seems obvious that he knows that Ret/Grubby are better players and he's just cheesing for a chance to get into a tourney that he has no shot at winning.
Or is this for money?

There's money involved as well, but I think Nazgul should probably have bribed uThermal to make sure a situation like this doesnt happen

If ret loses to something like this twice in three games, he doesn't have a shot either...

@Alryk: You play to win. If you are worse than your opponent you do cheesy stuff and cut corners. Its jsut sad that Allins and Cheeses are so effective in SC2

How did Ret lose the first game?
What did Uthermal do?

Oh yeah I know. It's just funny that Blizzard put this in to instill some kind of "national pride" but a player is just trying to cheese out somebody who could represent them well (I'm not a fanboy again and I'm not really worked up over it, I just find it funny)
@Blix, maybe its just a bad day for him, we all know Ret is a good player XD
But especially if there's money involved... that would probably be anybody's choice.
Edit: Lol, -almost- the exact same allin as vs Grubby

It's the counter to everything on this map, infestors come too late, hydras don't work, roach/ling even with flanks doesn't work as we saw, mutas don't work either. What's left?

Well Stephano is like 10x better player then grubby?

I don't understand how Ret ALWAYS loses to that push vs Grubby, it just happens all the time lol

wow Ret just got slapped around by Grubby
|
Grubby's thinking how come he can't do this to Stephano.
|
Grubby making FF look OP today
|
Grubby always doing 2 base allins Don't understand why he has so many fans..
|
Ret always losing to Grubby HAS to be the mindset. With Ret being able to beat so many other top protosses, I don't get why he loses to grubby every time they meet.
|
Grubby played that out really good once again, he is getting so good :D
Still FF's are kinda boring =/

Because he's a very likeable guy, good player + good caster?

can't really say someone's so good until they make a third.

When a Protoss player gets to the point where his forcefields get nearly perfect Protoss really seems OP WP Grubby and gratz to both for qualifying!

Missed the last game with grubby and ret. what did grubby do?

Also, the stuff he does is good and it works, so why not? MC is used to play like this a lot, is he so bad or what? People like him also. Don't see anything wrong there.

Not as boring as watching someone make drones for 8 minutes and then make a truckload of roaches and press 1-A. But I guess we all have preferences .
Congratulations Grubby for 1st place and Ret for qualifying !

I've never seen him go for a macro game vs a decent zerg and win.

i think it's fair to assume zorgaz said that off the backs of two games where, while grubby exectuted well, they were no measure of someone getting so good. grubby could be getting so good, he could be the second coming. but these games vs Ret, the best zerg at the event, didn't show that.

wtf, there was no bonjwa in wc3, and if there was one the closest guy would be moon during his WEG dominance.

allins? LOL
He showed lovely games, playing exactly against opponent's weaknesses which is the way to go. Well prepared strategy wins you games, what's wrong with that?

Damn missed the games .....

ret complaining about grubbys use of 1.4.3.2 protoss.

Its kinda funny how Ret seems to be mentally blocked against Grubby while Grubby seems to be mentally blocked against Stephano.
I guess its all about your mindset

Why would you do that if you can win with 2 base pushes? Going macro against Zerg as Protoss is a stupid idea anyway.

Glad Ret qualified, but man Forcefields are boring.

I think that Grubby is not yet on the level of Stephano yet? I mean Stephano is top 3 zerg worldwide? I would not call Grubby top 3 Protoss worldwide just yet (but in 6 months, who knows).

YEAH 3v3 COMING UP :DDD
This will be awesome ;D

Seriuosly, if Grubby had the same confidence in his play against Stephano as he has against Ret he could do much better against him, same goes for Ret. The hardships of a progamer i think

As a person who has been watching Grubby since the first day he started streaming, I can clearly say that he has a lot of builds other than 2 base all-ins vs. zerg. However, versus opponents on equal footing or even better than him, he tends to do two-base pressure and occasionally takes a third behind it. This is his cookie-cutter PvZ playstyle. It used to be 6gate blinkstalker pressure building on his microskills to get the upperhand vs. roach play, now it evolved into 2-3 immortal 8-10 sentry stalker push at around 130 supply.
I'm not sure how one can flame him for "all-inning" considering this is the current state of matchup and that it often works favorably for him. If it isn't broken, why fix it? Why would you go macro vs. perhaps one of the best macroers in the whole game? You have to use your competitive advantage to get the upperhand.
That said, I sympathize with Ret on his statement after the loss. I think researching burrow/tunnelling claws would be very helpful in this situation as Grubby almost never has an observer out during this push. He should also watch Stephano's games vs. Grubby in TakeTV invitational finals.

He said the big problem is the choke. So why fight in the choke? Instead of playing so reactionary, he could move out on the map before the push hits his third. If he pushes out with quite some lings, he can wear down the forcefields before grubby arrives.. That way grubby at least cant attack the third full force.

Good to see the two best Dutch players (by far) have obtained a ticket.
Also, congratz to Grubby for becoming the Dutch Champion.

Top 3 zerg...but keep in mind that zerg is underrepresented in korea. Where would you place him?

god grubby is a really bad 3v3 teammate hahaha he is getting comfy in his base while his team is getting owned.
