This is our first Sunday Showmatch match and will be streamed under our normal paywall with a 480p & 360p free stream and 720p/1080p to subscribers. Future Sunday Showdown events will be pay per view only and available to anyone who owns a Season 3 HD Pass Subscription.
What is Sunday Showdown? NASL Sunday Showdown is a weekly event where NASL flys out two of the top Starcraft 2 competitors for a 1 Day $2000 BO7 Showmatch LIVE from Anthill Pub at UC Irvine. The showmatch is streamed and casted live ON SITE and viewers are encouraged to attend the event!
I was gonna ask how they could afford to fly in 2 players, pay for their hotel room and give away 2000$, but then I realized it is going to be subscribers only.
I think that's a great idea, good way to make some extra money for the league (assuming they actually make enough to cover what this'll cost), without it actually affecting the league. (as in, there are no score changes that people missed)
This is a really good thing to use PPV for. Regular season matches aren't as hyped and aren't likely to sell passes. This is, it's hyped and it's the kind of thing people will talk about, which makes it more profitable since its ppv. Really good decision by nasl imo
If esport can't carry it's own weight and you have to charge money for it, I must admit that I do not mind the form NASL does it though - way better than MLGS arena decision imo, as people who can't pay won't loose interrest in the leagues and players since they arn't excluded from following the league unfolding.

Bring your friends! The Anthill is pretty fun to have a BarCraft at, and adding a Sunday ShowDown live at the venue will only make it more exciting to attend.

Will you be attending the event or watching the stream?

Yup. Come on down. Will be Barcrafting the Division 5 play. Then the Sunday Showdown between Sen and ToD will be live from the Anthill pub. Should be a good time.
See, now this is something that I think is better for PPV. No need to make entire tournaments PPV, but showmatches seem better fitted for PPV. Just my thoughts

I dunno about that. 1 bo7 showmatch ppv is less value than mlg weekend ppv.

But you also get the entire season in 1080p and quick VODs. The showmatch is just a bonus for subscribers.

Hmm, I thought there would be an option to just buy the showmatch itself, but looks like there isn't.

I am going to hold off my purchase until checking out how this showmatch turns out. If it's well done, that'd tip my wallet open.
NASL should do micro transactions like video games. They can keep the showmatches for subs, but they should also offer it for like $2 per showmatch. A lot of people will think $2 is nothing and could get a lot of buys.
I'm interested to see how ToD's practice has been treating him, gonna go against the masses and go with him for the win today, but they're both really good, so gl to both!

actually, that's a great idea. $2 for HD for a day or something.

I would totally be down for this. It's hard for me to justify 20$ (or w/e the price) for 10ish showmatches that I may or may not be interested in or have time for. (Esp if there's a lot of mirror matches or lopsided matchups.) It's a LOT easier for me to be bored on a Sunday afternoon and go "Idra vs Naniwa? Hell yeah I'll pay 2$ for that!"
No one is LRing, so I guess I'll pick it up. ToD picked up game 1. Game two is on belshir winter sen up 169 supply vs 98.
edit: sen wins game 2
edit 2: game 3 is on Ohana, tod is cannon rushing, game went normal. 3 base vs 3 base sen setting up a fourth sen maxed vs 139 tod though. supplies have evened out a bit 129 to 160. both are maxed now.
sen's 4th under heavy attack and his income is low; with a good engagement by tod sen is now in serious trouble and he GGs.
Whoever thought Sen would sweep ToD is absolutely insane. ToD is a WC3 legend with sick micro and a great pedigree. He also happens to be an amazing Toss player.
I don't understand people sometimes. Not saying he'll win (that's up in the air), but it shouldn't be surprising that he's being competitive and in the lead.

With that, I'm going to bed. Go ToD!
ToD has no big results in SC2 though, while Sen has several top placements in high profile tournaments.

Sen's results
3rd in IEM Season V - SEA Championship 3rd in HD World Tournament 3rd in NASL Season 1 3rd in Blizzcon 2011 3rd in IPL S4 Pacific Qualifier 3rd in NASL Season 2
prediction: sen wins 3rd in this two-player show match.

SEn has just as "many" achievements as Moon imo...all going back to the early days.
Overall all these 3 big names, ToD and Moon (WC3) and SEn (SC BW) are massively underperforming and way below their high expectactions. (especially Moon and SEn)

I always think it is a waste of money to fly players in for more money than there is in the prize pool. I dont care at all where the players sit when they play, as long as I know noone is in disadvantage with delay.

LOL.. I've never looked at his results. I just knew he was good from the first NASL and other places I've seen him. That's awesome :D

But I also think I am the minority here.
It's an extra perk for their subscriber base. Except for this weekend, the only way to see these showmatches is to have an HD season pass or be physically at the Barcraft in which the event actually takes place.

No not really, ToD was considered ridiculously good, in WC3, just like SEn was in SC:BW, but Moon was considered a bonjwa of WC3. Regardless of big name achievements, Moon had salaries way beyond that of ToD and SEn, and was way more famous and more successful overall.

Well..., the thing is, Sen is inching older and older yet he has not done the military service. Hence, it makes you wonder if he has passed his prime, comparing to the young guns that are just getting into their 20s.
All good games so far... Tod's phoenix always seem to pay for itself. On the other hand Sen is making it very difficult for Tod to expand to the 3rd...

I know, Moon has made a half million $ with RTS games already and is even much richer than MC.
I mean, in SC2, I think you could compare SEn with Moon there, and both rather disappointed so far.
Just like game 3 & 4, the player that I thought was winning ended up losing... maybe I am just at assessing the situation even when I can see what both players are doing...

Well.., he did fly from Korea, maybe miss out DreamHack and MLG, tried to adjust jet lag, played 6 games, and then get $500 instead of thousands. Any foreigners who try to make a name in KR in SC2 deserve some respect.
Congrat. to Sen, though it's just show match, great to see him on the international scene. I hope GamaBear won't restrict his traveling budget too much.
Was at the venue for a bit and thought it was a great event - recommend all to attend who are able to. Disappointed at the limited attention this is receiving on TL, but it is at 8 PM PDT on a Sunday night - not the best time for viewers and attendees. My suggestion is to move it to Saturday, but then I don't know the scheduling restrictions NASL have.
The announcements they made at the end were awesome, too. Select vs. Violet next week, and then... IdrA vs. Morrow. IdrA fans, this is your best shot to meet your god in a personal, casual setting. Go do it
