I won't be watching after the last foreigner goes out, not because I hate watching the best players in the world go at each other, but because the results are obvious at this point - the winner is going to be one of the Code S players, and they're all fairly close in skill. There is no underdog story, and I've watched enough Code S games to be bored by them.

Same reason I stopped watching BW once it was Flash vs. S-class every single time.

I'm going to catch the finals, and that's it.

It's still incredibly interesting to me who it's going to be in the end. They might be somewhat close in skill, but they are also so very different in their styles. And there are certainly underdog stories.

If Curious or Creator, GhostKing or Squirtle were to win, it'd be considered much more surprising than if MMA or MKP won the event.

you won;t see many Korean players once Kespa transits to SC2, enjoy while it last

Where are they gonna go? While Kespa isn't exactly a crowd favorite from BW, I don't see SC2 pros leaving the game if they think they at least have a chance to make it big.

Maybe he means in koreans in foreign tournaments? Not sure

It is idiotic to ignore the Korean vs. foreigner rivalry. Kespa isn't dumb enough to think that running Korean only leagues in Korea and forcing Korean players to play those each week every week is a good idea. The reason they did that for BW is because there was no market for BW outside of Korea. When there is, it is Korean policy to try to take advantage of it, being a country built around exports. That's why Kespa tried to run OSL and PL finals in China towards the end of BW, and why they brought IdrA, NonY, Ret, etc. to Korea. They wanted to export BW, but there was no response from other organizers.

I find it hard to understand this line of reasoning. Please don't take this as an insult or anything, I just feel curious as to why someone who enjoys a game would only be excited by underdog stories. I love underdog stories, but I also love flawless play. Watching Flash at his peak is like watching a full blown concert of starcraft, it's the pinnacle of the game, and it's a pleasure to watch. It's like watching Barcelona stomp other teams, it's fun because they're so goddamn good it's nice to watch.

Which is why despite mostly hating terran, I loved watching MVP at his prime. His play was so crisp, so perfect. Amazing thing to watch.

Watching someone steamroll or getting steamrolled is never fun. It's the close games that are good to watch.

I always thought the point of these was to see foreigners play against the koreans you always see in GSL. May the better player win.

It's the novelty factor - I loved seeing flawless play a year ago, but these days it all looks the same old, same old.

It's not just the Koreans. Stephano's play doesn't excite me today as it did a month ago.

Underdogs provide novelty. Watching Scarlett was a highlight of this tournament for me, because she played novel, and she was novel. An unknown making it into the finals, whoever it is, is a good reason to tune in for me, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Honestly anyone other than MKP/MMA. I don't like the clear favorites to win every tournament.

I'm just surprised not to see more foreigners participating in a tournament that has such a generous payout. Did players have to qualify to get into the open bracket?

Also, I love Korean players so I don't have any problem with the way the brackets look. But I was half thinking, especially at a tournament with so much money, that they should start offering a consolation prize to the highest placed foreigner since realistically all the money is going over to Korea. For example, something like "Hey there Ret, great showing today, even though you didn't make it to the championship bracket, you were first overall foreigner! We didn't want you to leave empty handed, so here's some gift cards for Walmart and the Cracker Barrel, and a faux gold trophy with the word 'Special' prominently written on the base!"

Foreigners had three choices this weekend -

IPL
The Gathering
Copenhagen Games

A lot of European pros chose the latter two. Accuse them of copping out all you want, but looking at the brackets now, are you able to blame them?

Say Thorzain, Morrow, Kas, etc. were here at IPL. You think that's going to change the final results?

Their answer is what you see today, and while I applaud the foreigners who did show up at IPL and try to get through the OBs, I don't blame the others for not showing up.

The GSTL Finals are tonight as well, remember? In other words, I'm 99% sure the Championship Bracket will only be played tomorrow.
