I've got to say, this tournament has the worst format I've ever seen. Players like White Ra and Idra, who won't win a single game, will leave with $1000 dollars for being invited. Meanwhile, players like Huk, Sase and Illusion, who beat top Koreans, leave with absolutely nothing.

Let's stop with invites in every tournament, they just don't make sense.

Wait, are you from the future, and you know that idra and White-Ra won't win a single game?

Let's be real.

I haven't watched Idra's games yesterday but White-Ra certainly showed that he may have very well been 2-0 in his group.

He could've beaten Stephano but MKP no .

He was beating MKP but he threw the games away. He was ahead in both games by quite a bit but he was losing units for no reason in the middle of the map. If he would have pulled back and re-grouped after holding off those pushes he would have won. But he decided to chase units into the middle of the map and lose them to reinforcing units

Honestly, if Stephano, WhiteRa, and IdrA weren't past winners of previous IPL's (giving direct seed), they wouldn't be there with the groups either.

It would be all Koreans for sure.

When will people do some research before making such statements?

Whilst Stephano is within the group stage because of his IPL 3 victory, which is just about the most deserving reason to ever be seeded, he also won the IPL 4 UK Qualifiers which would have given him the same seed. However, since he was already going as the IPL 3 champion (again, is this really a problem for the previous champion to be seeded?!?), the IPL 4 UK Qualifier seed went to Tails.

I really don't see why people have to continually go on about Stephano "only being there because of his IPL 3 win", like it was some fluke or useless trash tournament that donated him a seeding place above other more deserving players.

If you want to complain about stupid seeding that harms competition, then look at MLG seeding system which puts repeat attendees so high up the bracket that they barely have to win more than one or two games to finish in the prize money (and therefore earn another high seed for the next tournament).

The real shame of the tournament so far has been that WhiteRa is in trouble despite playing some truly excellent Starcraft yesterday. He made mistakes which were always going to cost him games against players of MKP and Stephano's calibre, but the result shouldn't take away from WhiteRa's excellent play.

Not anymore all of the players in the pools have to qualify for their spots now.
None but a coward dares to boast that he has never known fear.

A bracket full of random Koreans, looks like GSL.

I'll come back to the Ro8 and check if there is still a foreigner left, if not, thanks im done with you IPL. If I want to see a Korean tournament I can go watch GSL Vods with Tastosis.

Go watch pro wrestling, it seems more your speed. This is a sport first and foremost, not a contest of who has a bigger fanbase.

Lol only because I dont like that Koreans dominate at IPL and think that it makes the tournament boring I should quit watching Starcraft?

I like watching Koreans at the GSL and I like to watch a few Koreans at foreign events but I dont like to watch 28 Koreans in the top 32 of IPL.

In the first place SC2 is entertainment, in the 2nd place it is a sport which needs fair competition. But who cares about fair competition if it is not entertaining?

A lot of people (not the TL hardcore fans of course) will lose interest in SC2 if every major event is being dominated by an army of Koreans like IPL4.

Why do you think Demuslim, Idra, Incontrol etc. get 5-8k viewers on their streams while most Koreans pros dont get more than 1k viewers if everyone just wants to watch the best players?

Different settings cant be compared imho. You cant compare what people want to see in the regular stream with what people want to see in a tournament. At least in my opinion in a tournament people want to see great matches with the best players. Regular streams are more about interaction with the audience and watch some cool games mean time (there's no obligation to be one or the other, you can be a great host and still play some sick sick games, the point is, regular streams are completely different experiences from tournament streams because of that host factor).

Thats not always the case. People want to see players/matches with personalities, rivalrys, history and in general players with whom they can identify themself and relate to. Koreans, because of their reserved culture, will not deliver those things to the western world.

Koreans should teach foreigners the practice discipline and foreigners should show koreans how to present themself.

Even though tournaments are about finding the best players or teams, people have a rooting interest in certain players or teams. For me, the list of Korean players who I'm rooting for is much smaller than the list of Foriegner players who I'm rooting for. Consequently, when there are very few foreigners left, there are less players who I'm rooting for. Even though the games may be great, it's a little less exciting when it doesn't involve a player I'm rooting for.

I understand that and it is a completely valid statement. I know a lot of people like foreigners more and think they give a more entertaining or more "personal" experience but that wasn't the part I was replying to.

The point of my post was to reply only to the part about daily foreign streams and that they have so many more viewers than korean ones. Almost as if implying that the majority of people don't like to watch koreans in tournaments because everyday streams of foreign personalities have more viewers. That's why I stated that I don't think those two situations can actually be compared. Many people (like me for example) rather watch the best in tournaments and don't care where they come from. On the other hand, when it comes to regular daily streams many of those same people (like me) rather watch a stream with a good host or a relatable host even if it is not the best player. That doesn't mean the exact opposite doesn't also happen or that I think people don't watch tournaments just to follow their favourites even if they aren't the best. No. What I mean is there are people who look for different things in tournaments and streams, thus helping the numbers referred by the poster I was replying to and, imho, that doesn't prove what he said.

Because of this, I don't think it's reasonable to infer that most people dislike tournaments with koreans solely based on the everyday stream numbers because, at least in my opinion, those are different types of entertainment and some people want different things from each of those environments.

I hope this clarifies my previous post.

Most impressive showing from a foreigner this IPL, add to the fact that he just turned 17 and does this thing part time. The Hell. Sase and Huk were a knife's edge away from making it to groups as well so hats off to them. And of course there's Scarlett the teamless wonder.

I won't be watching after the last foreigner goes out, not because I hate watching the best players in the world go at each other, but because the results are obvious at this point - the winner is going to be one of the Code S players, and they're all fairly close in skill. There is no underdog story, and I've watched enough Code S games to be bored by them.

Same reason I stopped watching BW once it was Flash vs. S-class every single time.

I'm going to catch the finals, and that's it.

This is awesome, its like GSL but you dont have to wait 3 months to see who'll win it.

I guess I can understand why people dont like watching only Koreans play (no emotional attachment) but I certainly dont subscribe to it, I love good SC2 play & Koreans put on the best SC2 show on earth.

You have to single out Sase, Huk and Illusion from the foreigners in the open bracket.
Illusion was one round behind in LR7, but he beat 3 Code S players.

No other foreigner made it to LR6, and only Scarlett and Jinro to LR5.
Thats 5 foreigners in the Top28 of the open bracket.

I'm not a fan of stephano but I kinda want him to advance..if its Korean only after group stage, it really loses a lot of excitement. Gonna watch it anyway though..
