History: HSL was founded January, 2012, our purpose being to build and maintain an eSports community in Houston, TX and its surrounding areas. Though our initial event is a tournament, we would like to embellish all facets of the eSports community and hold LANs, practice nights, tournaments, barcrafts, etc. If you live in/around Houston, have a passion for eSports, and would like to be involved in the day to day operations and event planning for HSL, please email daenks@houstonstarcraftleague.com.
Additional Info: We are still working out some of the specifics, which means that casters, matches, prize pools, etc. are all subject to change until we begin our online matches approximately 10 days before the tournament. Registered players can be viewed from our homepage, http://www.houstonstarcraftleague.com.
Also, a special thanks to Quantic Gaming for their assistance in the planning and preparation for this event! They have been a joy to work with!

Yes, we want lots of newbies! The more people we can get interested in Starcraft 2 the more eSports will grow locally! This will NOT be our last BSG event for prizes and cash!
Also, the microsoft store found US. He google'd "houston starcraft" and found me at the bottom of the 1st page. Props to the Community guy, Rashid!

Does anyone know if tthere will be an entry fee?
|
So I've always thought prize pools for lower tier players was questionable. It's interesting that you include it here.
Not knocking your tournament, but just wondering. Do you have any guards in place to keep someone from knocking themselves down a rank or two to get the gold prize pool? What about borrowing a friends account who's in a lower division so there's no evidence that they dropped ranks? Also there's the question that the best gold player will receive money, while the platinum players (who have practiced harder to get to a higher rank) will likely receive nothing in their tournament.
I'd be interested to hear how y'all addressed these issues, or if you're just not worrying about them?

These issues have been heavily discussed in our planning. We are watching every entry into the BSG matches, accounts with no or little history wil be marked suspect, and the staff of the event will be reviewing replays. There is little that can be done to "STOP" smurfing, but we can make it difficult. Anyone we do catch smurfing will be DQ'd immediately. If anyone in the community has ideas on how to better deal with this, we are open to discussing it.
We all love watching great players battle for prizes, but offering cash prizes for BSG players is designed to bring out people who would otherwise not be interested in playing competitively. We are trying to build a sustainable eSports community, and in the larger picture, BSG players are very important!

Will the online play be double elimination or single?
Will there be any seeding (maybe based on ladder)?
What is the map pool as well?

Online play: For now, its safe to assume single elimination for the online matches; all things are still pretty subject to change.
Seeding: Not sure how i'm going to structure the seeding process, but there will be one.
Maps: As yet unannounced, but you can expect to see a mix of current 1v1 Season 6 maps, as well as MLG,GSL, etc.

Is it possible to change your race after you've already signed up?
|
Way too little exposure on this getting out.
I like attending local events to support the scene, and didn't even know this existed until 2days before registration closes.
Bump for leet signups.
|
Also just realized that this takes place at the same time as the ColAcademy recruitment tourney. Please contact them and work something out, I would hate for players to have to choose between the two.
|
If I am ranked higher in one race but have a consistent low league placement in another race, may I play as that race?
Also, how is handle different from the bnet name?
Edit: Example, consistent diamond+ protoss, but for some reason I just cannot get zerg or terran lol.

Bump for leet signups. I've tried to bump it as much as I can without being too spammy. Tweet, like us on FB whatever we can do to get as many people involved as possible, but remember this is only the first event. More will be revealed.

Handle is the same as nickname. For example, my bnet character names are DaenksEX and LGDaenks, but I just go by Daenks (my handle).

Will the BSG tourney be finished earlier in the day? I potentially have another commitment (after 5), although I'm still gonna try to be there if I qualify :D I feel like it should, because you would then finish with the Ro16+ people who are actually great at the game (Go Nony!)

RO4 for BSG is currently scheduled for 3:30pm and the finals for 5:00pm, but this schedule is still subject to change, which is why it hasn't been publicly posted yet.

Yes, mistake on the bracket. The CSN Schedule has been appropriately updated. Thanks for pointing it out.

HsL. My first match is against a Masters Zerg and then the winner between us gets to face against EmpireViolet. This tournament should be super fun. I didn't even know Nony had signed up. I hope he can make it out for the live event. Would be awesome to have him start his comeback in Houston.

Top 4 seeds were determined by recent tournament results. The rest were randomized.

sounds fun!! congrats everyone

This event was awesome! Well run, smooth, friendly, and a GREAT atmosphere at the Galleria. I had random chats with people both in and out of the event, and I even got to talk to Violet :D
I will definitely be participating next time. If the rumor I heard about some of the sponsors was true, that's sad to hear, but I think its safe to say that they definitely lost out. I'll probably be visiting that Microsoft store later to pick up a new laptop they have a nice selection and its simpler than newegg. (and I don't think prices were too bad).
My congratulations to all of the winners as well as the staff for running a great tournament!
