Every pro sport has that system, and if guys are not able to motivate themselves when they have no shot of reaching the final anymore they are not the type of players we need in e-sports ~ in all honesty, why cant players motivate themselve for a 100 Euro bo3 while they would play random only cups for 50 euro, odds 1/128 of winning 50 euro or 1/2 on 100 Eu? I still think that was the best system, I know why they changed it, I just don't agree with it ;P Has nothing to do with motivation in most cases. Just that people, who don't earn as much money as the top players, have to worry about other stuff as well so they might just be practising less, while a player who isn't in the league just had a lot of free time and played a shitload of games so he got better, but can't participate in the league.

Btw, I agree with Leech that the quality of the stream can be improved. I think premium should be 1080p and it seems to me that 720p on esl-tv is not as clear as on mlg or ipl etc. Also some overlays would be nice ![]() Other than that I think esl and eps is headed in a nice direction and I hope it will get more viewers every time! Edit: Yay it's finally listed :D

But in general, it appears that the ESL is purposely trying to undersell the EPS or don't really care about the number of viewers. They get maybe ten times as much viewers with decent threads and early calendar entries at TL, but you rarely see these here or pretty late with already some hours into the broadcast. Sometimes I hear it is hard to get a TL mod to approve this things, but a lot of smaller cups seem to have no problem with it. Formatwise, the 16 players round robin is the format which is traditionally associated with the EPS. But I have to admit it had some problems, like having unimportant matches sometimes. I like that there are more series shown with the tournament system, but from a production view, I never understood why the ESL couldn't force players wait until the series before has ended and wait for the broadcast, so you get three picked series shown entirely every Tuesday and have the other matches streamed by volunteers. Also cutting out of matches or not showing the conclusion of a series because being over schedule like it happened before is something which should NOT be an issue with the possibilities of Internet streaming. I don't agree with the argument that German players are bad in SC2 and non-germans have no interest in the EPS. The German scene in SC2 is quite strong with having (traditionally) a large basis of good (Grandmaster) players and some players like Hasu, Socke, Darkforce that often advance in international tournaments as well. Maybe the impression stems from the last seasons of WC3 by players (rumored to be) only practicing occasionally to avoid dropping out and top players seeming to be already satisfied to win the EPS but didn't have any ambition to place well in international tournaments. I must say that in SC2 in particular, I am quite fond of the EPS/EAS (national league + national amateur series). Compare the German scene with the American scene. There is hardly any competition for "second class" Americans (i.e. America without HuK, IdrA, Sheth) can shine in and it is very hard for American newcomers to break into the scene. How to you build a SC2 career in America? Be in a popular team or be a popular streamer, but eSports should not be only a popularity contest. In Germany, the path is more straight-forward.

Imagine a system where its like bundesliga, watching your favorite players or even teams every weekend for the german championship. But what we get is a cup system, which doesnt make any sense. You dont see this system in any other games or leagues in any other country. Why? Caus it sucks. But sometimes it could be a step in the right direction to try something new. Okay. It could be worth the risk to lose the title "Deutscher Meister" (german champion) if you win it. No problem. But the real deal is that the ESL is not interested (?) in letting this whole system go big. I dont see any real interesting news on enough community pages to know whats going on in the EPS, when there are casts, who is casting and the dates and stuff. The ESL homepage itself sucks, so i wont use it. If you read a news about the price money for the ESL and Starcraft 2, you would cry. Why the hell should i watch EPS if we have tournaments like NASL, MLG, Dreamhack, GSL, and stuff for singleplayers and even quite nice teamleagues that are always getting bigger? edit: and the biggest joke is the stream quality, even if you pay for it. for real, ive seen unknown tournaments or even private streamers with ALOT better quality and this all for free. you can discuss the quality of casters, or you just like/dislike them, but this quality ... oh crap.
