Whats with the MMA hype. He won't even get out of his group. He'll lose to the 2 protosses in this group and will only have a slight edge over supernova

This is the saddest I've been because of starcraft in a long time, lol. At least when he fell to Leenock in November he played amazing games and nobody could bash him, but today he just seemed frustrated and didn't play up to his standards. I have no doubts that he will show his skills once again and silence the haters, skill like he had doesn't just disappear overnight, but the next few weeks are going to be very disappointing without MVP playing.

i thought MVP played an amazing game towards the end on cloud kingdom vers curious i really recomend ppl checxk this game out. artosis gave me a really good insight into mvps possible thought process and this little gem seems so obvious and will help my play a lot.

for those who want to know the gem
+ Show Spoiler +
even tho mvp was losing he was doing a beautiful job of spreading his army and constantly chipping away at curiouses econemy. even tho curious had a far superiour army mvp was trying to destory curious ability to remake the army and just micro really well against it to hopefully get a decent trade so he could stop it and force his pressence back on the map.
Esports is killing Esports.

MVP got the easiest group yet he doesn't advance. His last GSL win was the one before blizzcon yet people were still calling him the best lol.

For pretty much the whole of last year, MVP was undeniably the best player in the world for a consistent period.

He lost in one group. Big fucking deal. Nobody else bar MMA (who is really looking dodgy with the Return of Protoss to GSL) is even in the running for the title.

Until he loses for more than 1 month and somebody else can take up his mantle, I don't care what Waxy says: MVP still No.1

People say that Oz has some of the best PvT in the world. He beats MMA 3-2 in a series where MMA was sick. MMA has crappy TvP.

I think the real significance of MVP dropping to Code A is:

Maybe he isn't the best player in the world anymore, or at the moment.

MVP is still maybe the best player in the world. But he is nowhere near "hands down" the best player in the world like some people have been saying. He has been losing too much for that.

I think he is still probably the best in the world but there's no doubt that the tip top of the korean scene is getting very crowded lately. The skill gap between players in the ro16 is razor thin for the most part and mvp can't just roll over players by playing his b game like he used to. Very exciting time, hope mvp comes back in top shape next season to silence the haters and anti-hype train that is picking up steam

MVP is obviously feeling extremely frustrated - he had the "easiest" group and losing 4-1 to Gumiho (someone he chose) must make him feel terrible. That being said, the 2 best players on the night did qualify so there was no qualms about it.

This.

The supposed best player in the world should not get knocked out in the Ro16.

At least we still have MC, Nestea, and MMA to look forward to.

Unless I'm missing something this is only the second time MVP has been knocked out of a tournament short of the Ro4 since the end of July 2011 (the other being the first AoL event that no one seemed to take seriously).

In the meantime he was:

MLG anaheim champ
gsl august champ
gsl october runner up
blizzcon champ
mlg korean invitational champ
mlg providence top 4
AoL team ace champ
gsl november top 4
WCG korea champ
WCG champ
Blizzard cup top 4

pretty insanely consistent.

Ok, cool.

He still shouldn't have gotten knocked out of this group, losing 2 Bo3's to a guy with a 47% TvT win rate.

obviously mvp sucks now

/stupidity

I looked several times, but could you tell me where in my posst I said MVP sucks?

The post I originally quoted was about how MVP being makes the tournament less exciting, I wasn't saying that MVP is bad.

Yes, the best player in the world getting knocked out in the Ro16, IN MY OPINION, should not happen and when it does it makes the tournament less exciting and brings up the question if he still is the best player in the world.

Hop off my dick please, I wasn't saying MVP sucks.

It would take a lot more than that to bring his consistency as the top player into question.. Flash didn't make every semifinals that he entered but nobody would consider placing another player at the top of Brood War. There are players that can take games and even sets off of him but it takes more than that to dethrone him from the top especially considering him obviously playing below his standard.

Comparing MVP to Flash would be like comparing the St. Louis Cardinals to the New York Yankees.

Yea, the Cardinals have 11 World Series wins, but the Yankees have fucking 27.

The point is, MVP's reign is no where near as impressive as Flash's.

The most awesome thing is that GuMiho made it out. The reason this is significant is because pretty much everyone at the group selections was going to pick him first, saying he was the easiest. The fact that he stuck it to MVP is just awesome.

Doesn't MVP have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome on both wrists? Right now it's fucking cold in Korea and CTS usually gets worse with cold weather. It would have certainly screwed with his practice schedule

I'm not sure who you are making this point to, considering I never said that MVP was as impressive as Flash. My point was that when Flash gets knocked out of a tournament before the semifinals nobody brings his skill into question, and nobody asks if Flash is still the best player in the world. People seem to realize that even the best player in the world will have his off days and poor performances and that this doesn't constitute a 'slump'.

MVP isn't as impressive as Flash but then again nobody is. MVP is the closest to Flash's domination that starcraft 2 has. The gap between MVP and MMA DRG etc isn't as big as exists in BW but it takes a large sample size of results to figure out where people are skillwise and MVP's results speak for themselves.
