Hero's build is extremely greedy and meant to gain map control, so it skips standard production for a fast third and blink (I imagine it is supposed to feign 4 gate pressure). Thorzain did a standard two medivac push with stim and wiped out most of Hero's army, and from there he just got more stuff.


What confuses me is that thorzain was up 15? supply when hero started building his 3rd


Hero put down his twilight council extremely quickly, just after his 2nd and 3rd gates. And he cut his production severely to get a high enough probe count and the third.

Wonder why Thorzain went for such a cheese in an ace match.

Concerning the setup: why can't different leagues be different? Proleague runs a similar setup for part of the season, and it enjoys much popularity.

So Ret absolutely, totally scouts a two rax and it is still really difficult to hold.

Balance? Or Thorzain is way better than Ret?

Blunders on both sides there... after his initial hold, Ret lost a ton of lings when he could've attacked rax and Thorzain's main and won there probably/ Not sure how he held so well in his main vs. the marines though, but ok.

And this one doesn't? All it doesn't allow for is for you to pick your opponent. Oh no.

Part of the strategy of team leagues is the ability to pick your counter to an opposing player. That is why teams with perhaps less overall skill, such as Prime, can make it to the GSTL finals over teams like IM, due to better strategy and player choosing. I like that more then just lets match up some players and have at it. Sue me.

? He started the baneling nest as soon as he scouted the mass rax, going for banelings nest that early without using it to counter mass rax would hurt your economy, and spines lose cost efficiency at a certain point, Ret struck the right balance and pulled it off ^^

You're implying that this format doesn't work?

This format was used for more than five years in BW Proleague, and it's a great standard and staple format. The all-kill format (what GSTL and IPL TAC use) is a good format as well, but it doesn't allow for the kind of intense preparation the Ace match format does.

They both work. If you don't like this format, then that's really just you. I prefer the Ace format. OH NO.
