+ Show Spoiler [Frequently Asked Questions] +Q: Will these games be cast live? A: We will be casting live, however we will be using replays. With all our casters being based in North America, we cannot feasibly cast live in game without casing lag. Also we want to present this at good times for English speaking fans.
Q: What is a "confirmed team" A: This means at least one player from that team has expressed interest in playing and will be a participant. Some teams like Liquid will only be fielding a few players, and other teams like SlayerS will be trying to make it so their entire roster can play.
Q: I thought only GOM could run tournaments in Korea? A: That is true in part. GOM has the broadcast rights in Korea but has been kind enough to allow these events. We are very thankful to GOM who also assisted us in reaching out to the teams!
Q: Why is "Korean Team X" not represented? A: At this point invites have been sent out to every major Korean team. Some have yet to reply, but rest assured I think we will have every major Korean team involved, so make sure and pay attention as as more teams confirm I will add them to the OP.
Q: What will be the map pool? A: This was a big source of debate and here is what we came up with. We realize that the Koreans play mainly on GSL maps for the GSL. However we don't want to totally leave our maps out. So it will be a combo of the two, that will likely be a bit more GSL map heavy.
Q: Will replays be released? A: Yes! Some will in fact be released. They will be limited to uncasted games, but every week you will be able to get your hands on some very sick Korean replays!
Q: These casts are at bad time for Europe, what gives? B: We are aware of this and are looking into a EU rebroadcast, I will let everyone know when I know more
Special thanks to; GOM TV, TorCH, Chae Jung Won, the ESV TV image team, and all our fans!

Also GO TAEJA!

Technically he is still code S. Even if you fall to Code A you're still Code S unless you fail to get straight back into Code S.

Yeah, it starts! Midnight in Europe isn´t too bad to watch when your student :D Was always nice to watch a bit Korean Weekly before sleeping. 1 or 2 hours ealier would not hurt ofc, but hey we don´t have to wake up at 4 in the night to watch GSL. And I think I never saw a longer OP

The ratio of successful 2 rax vs cannon rush or 6 pool at the pro level must be something like 100 to 1.

He probably practiced hundreds of games vs bunker rushes. I think there is no clear answer to them, otherwise bunker rushes won't be so successful.

You see few bunker rushes in GSL these days, many players can defend nicely and than the Terran is behind by a good margin.
I saw a game on Idras stream against ForGG where ragequit the moment he saw the proxy barracks. He doesnt really put effort in practising against it. He rufeses to accept it as a part of the game.

actually daybreak plays similar to metal, if you get a no gas 3rd hatch you can get roaches up in time to deny hellion harass from a cc first, a lot of pros have been using it to combat the eco build meta in tvz atm.

If you watch GSL frequently (yesterdays/todays games depending on your time zone) you would know that Zenio lost his Code S Ro16 spot to Gumiho due to a bunker rush. The risk of losing a bunker and 2-3 marines is a trade I take any day of the week against the chance of killing a zergs fast hatch.

Taeja threw away some scvs to banelings because he could afford to and it meant he could keep more marines alive to combat the mutas in his base.

sorry to hear that, but Taeja still had a huge econ lead after killing IdrA's fourth and survived the engagement with more than enough units to finish the job. IdrA could have stayed and tried to sac his third and hope broods would kill off Taeja's army but...didn't look good

Taeja was on 4 base (with Idra down to 3) and sacced some scv's at his nat to hold banelings.
He had better upgrades, huge econ, a full tech tree, and crazy infrastructure (14 marines 2 tanks at a time baby).

Supply lead doesn't mean much in a ZvT.
Everyone else has already explained why you were wrong about the economy part.

Idra's already tilt yeah, it's going to be over soon.

Glad to see IdrA trying a different style. He did enough damage.

Idra is so smart, puts the roach warren down right in front of Taeja's face, so Taeja definitely doesn't execpt it's going to be an semiallin roach push. Wp!

Pretty allin IMO, but a very good decision on this map after scouting cc first

seems like Idra completely wasted his roach attack spending so much time attacking the bunker giving Taeja precious time to get a tank out. I think he should have skipped the bunker and just gone for SCVs/production, that might've lost him the game.

Taeja has nerves but he only falls apart in BO1s of a group stage.

Yeah definitely, especially when he didn't even need to snipe a depot to get into his base, just waltz around the bunker and halt his production, he even saw the 2 rines going into the bunker, they couldn't dps enough to kill all those roaches before they got away.
|
That was brilliant by Taeja! Kill the scout at the tower, then, knowing Idra is going to try to counter attack his third, moved his army over there instead of acting... so smart.
|
|
Upgrade Idra pleaaaase, with this kind of ressources it should be banned not to upgrade.

You dont need fast speed vs 14cc and you can make up for the cost with scv kills, as he did, and it was a good choice imo if you consider that the passive "i macro better than you"-approach got abused pretty hard by Taeja on Daybreak.

Taeja's pretty good xD

Idra not getting carapace upgrades for ground vs terran.... holy mother of batman. WHAT IS HE DOING?

I feel strongly that IdrA could have won the game 7min in if he just moved his roaches into Taeja's main, once he allowed him to secure a third that game was over unless IdrA won the first engagement with a HUGE supply lead >.>

It wasn't an all in but he should have taken a third instead of "rushing" for mutas when he spent his early gas on roaches.

IdrA is losing hope (and I'm not talking only about this series). I doubt he will be able to win anything in 2012.

Taeja is really really solid. He can macro, turtle against mutas, dodge the banelings, transition into ghosts...it's like IdrA playing standard is already in a checkmate before the game begins.
The roach rush when he saw Taeja do CC first was nice. He needs to pull more smart moves like that.

I never saw a zerg coming back from being so far behind. He also had no banelings left, Taeja had plenty of marines near his bases.

Yeah. Honestly, I think it's the harshest thing I've ever said about a pro-gamer but I can't WAIT until IdrA is old news. I think he's kind of bad for e-sports with just giving up. Not even the early GGs, though that is part of it. Whether IdrA believes he can or he believes he can't defeat his opponent he ends up being right. It's that fatalistic mentality and it makes it SO HARD to be an EG fan. You'll never see IdrA fight off his back and back into it. Sure it'd be a long shot whenever he leaves early, but it's that heroic warrior spirit that I love to see, and IdrA just doesn't have it. As much as I'd like to tell myself I don't care whenever IdrA loses to a korean opponent when representing the foreign seen, the reality is he still ends up breaking my heart a little with every crushing defeat.

I think its difficult to make a comeback as zerg in a straight up fight because of the binary nature of their attack move units (e.g. you either have enough, or you dont - very unlike something like MC's stalkers where he can play from behind and win because dat control).
He did try sending his mutalisks behind to try to slow down Taeja's economy but the marines were already there. I think he was out of time and out of options.
It's always nice to see him play it out though, but this is IdrA, he doesn't play a game out if he knows he's lost.

Idra is simply playing poorly. Not microing roaches away. Banelings hitting thors and tanks. Sending in banelings before tanks die.
Sending in mutas before zerglings. Etc.
Also his expand timings have been weird, they seem to be VERY late compared to normal?

he has all his mutas, and Taeja didn't land his 4th at this time. He just need to get a good engagement, Taeja was going to back his army anyway his marines were half life. Not like i see it happening against Taeja tonight, he plays way better than Idra currently :'(

yes as i thought daybreak again lol

idras problems seem pretty simple to me. he overproduces mutas when he should be morphing banes. also, with ling bane muta as many have already mentioned, upgrades are essential!!!
cut some mutas, in favor of banes and upgrades. -_-
you dont want to engage a maxed terran army when your composition is ling/muta. thats just stupidity!

Evoli (gen. manager of EG) said in the showmatch thread that they were played on Saturday and Sunday, so they are very recent.

I feel if IdrA devoted more gas to bling instead of muta against this comp he'd be in a better spot, that's soooo many mutas that can't really do too much

Can someone tell IdrA to stop trying to do the same build every single game? Yeah, Taeja played really well and all, but you can't expect to do the same damn thing every game no matter what your opponent does, he's just gonna exploit the shit out of it.

Disappointingly one-sided games, but at least the ESV Korean Weekly is back!!
|
It seems like a lot of people don't realize how good Taeja actually is. Go to TLPD and sort by ELO peak: 6th. Taeja has the 6th highest SC2 ELO of all time so far. You can count the players higher than him on one hand. Go to the detailed breakdown and check vZ peaks: 4th. Third best TvZ, behind MMA and MVP.
Idra had so little of a chance going into this, and most of you don't seem to get that. Whether Idra played his best or not, he was going to get a beat down.

This just reinforces the point that IdrA would have been fucked in his GSL group anyway, even though some people claimed, "he could have beaten MVP" - you don't stand a chance against MVP with that level of play.
I hope he gets it together for Code A, at the moment I'm quite worried that he won't even make it through the first round.

Pretty much right. Everyone spoke about IdrA when he defeated Bomber at MLG as breaking his habit of leaving games early, he had a few tournaments where he seemed on another level to most players; he would stick in games even if he was behind, even if he made a few bad engagements and looked on par with top Koreans, but he seems to have lost some of that swagger, maybe over confidence in his style that seems a little dated to me. Taeja just exploited the hell out of it. I know it was a showmatch but he should still show his best games.

It's a stronger color team mod, which is to help the colorblind see things better (orb is colorblind). Also, banelings are awesome with this.

I feel that Orb's analysis of ZvP opening is really off. 14 pool is much more common than hatch first, nexus first should be safe versus 14 pool, and fast stalker harass is unusual after FFE openings.

You can do a double gate into a fast 2 stalker after a forge FE vs gasless zerg and force quite a few spines/lings. It delays your tech obviously, but its fairly viable, however you are right, it is quite uncommon these days.

Morrow with the anti-idra gg timing!

Morrow pulling a Goody-style macro, supplyblocks everywhere.

I don't understand, why didn't morrow just practice his zvz instead of playing terran? Doesn't that make laddering tougher?

Morrow's terran is actually really good, if you watched him against QIM in IPLTAC he was amazing.

Ugh Morrow why are you still in this game. =(

MorroW never really able to recover after the bust, Messiah just constantly wearing him down for the rest of the game.

Meh , Morrow playing to greedy and getting punished. If he had a bunker at front, he wouldn't have needed to pull back his helions and could've scouted the allin.
|
Tassadar? IT'S BINGO TIME GENTLEMAN

Great line-up, though I have to say I am not a fan of Wacksteven's casting, he really is not adding anything to the cast imo, and his mic quality is terrible.

What all-in will Tassadar do this game? Interested to see if Desrow has a chance here.

Desrow about to eat Tassadar!
Tassadar about to explode out of Desrow's stomach!

Gonna be hilarious if desrow makes it further in this tournament than Morrow or Zenio.

This invisible wall between foreigners and koreans just feels impenetrable. A lot of the time it's like, "Yeah we can jump that", but then they lube it up with whale grease or something and we slip and fall on our ass. It's the same game, but the ratio at which foreigners are losing to Koreans is not balanced...

I hope you guys don't hate him too much for beating MorroW

Every zerg is a ZvP specialist these days haha

Why does it show the player's overall records? Sase has the benefit of playing a lot of games against bad foreigners whereas Shine will have played pretty much all his game vs. Koreans.
Not that is matters, just kinda annoying.

Mass muta is pretty much unstoppable if it comes as a surprise, you need blink, storm, archons and cannons to deal with that. And you can't tech swing in time. PvZ TT
|
Foreigners representing in this tournament. To be expected though, there are no foreign players who can compete with mid-tier Koreans now, even the Code B Koreans too much to handle....
|
With that Muta tech switch toss can literally do nothing but delay his inevitable defeat.
|
|
Koreans clowning the foreigners. I was starting to think the gap was getting pretty close with stephano, huk, thorzain and idra performing well in the second half of last year, but now it seems like foreigners are getting dominated harder than ever.

It's more like we're starting to see just how good the B-team tier of Korean players can be. When a bench-warmer on IM can defeat a GSL champion you know the internal skill gap is quite small.
|
Meh, the year is still long, but now I don't know whether foreigners going to Korea is a good idea. Aside from HuK, seems like most foreigners do better when they train outside of Korea than in it. The practice environment is not paying off.

Forge FE 2base timing. It seems to be the most effective style.
Wonder if the days of double robo are over. The muta decision looked very robust so I would think in a decision tree *fast* double robo must be dead as a Toss should always be getting blink relatively quickly to account for a muta switch.

It killed Nestea, while Crazymoving's mutas murdered PvZ champion hero on taldarim. Still feel that 2base play to kill or neuter that third is the best option.
I will say PvZ's evolutions have been pretty interesting. Double stargate looking very popular today though.

2 base timings to kill the third are not necessary. Korean Protosses have already shown us that.

To everyone asking why Korea is so dominant: imagine a culture where playing video games doesn't have the social stigma like it does in our societies. Kids can take starcraft in school like a regular sport! No wonder they're animals in competition. They're also the most highly-connected and technologically-obsessed culture on earth. I've been to Japan as well, and I'm pretty sure the Koreans are crazier about technology than they are.

I lived in Korea as a teacher for a year, so I got to see lots and lots of middle school boys. They play regular sports as much as westerners, and probably video games a bit more, but it's certainly much more socially acceptable. Big groups of kids leave school and head to the PC bang to play the newest games, and they're very competitive and excited about that stuff. In Canada tons of people play video games too, but I don't think they're nearly as open about it as they are in Korea. Consequently, we produce very few top-tier gamers... though we do seem to produce far more, per capita, than the states.

The 30 minute limit was obviously an emergency measure due to the massive, massive, massive amount of terrible trolling and hate in the chat during the idra games. Normally ESV.tv chat is somewhat reasonable.

Somewhat, but when chat is restricted so severely it encourages trolling just as much as when it is relatively unlimited.

Oh, what kind of word is that? It isn't Korean or English lol
|
In Korean when letters are doubled it changes the sound. So the "s" sound is a bit more like "sh" in english, but when it's "ss" it's pronounced as a hard hiss, like in Ssangyong.
Jjakjji is just transcribed directly in english with emphasis on the J sounds. "Jackji."

The double j sound is actually quite different from the English j sound. You have to stick your tongue toward the roof of your mouth.

TvP doesn't seem that unwinnable to me :D Ace didn't play particularly bad, and jjakji didn't play fancy at all, barely any drops, just good macro and upgrades and the usual carpet EMPs.
Edit: Ace did make some mistakes :D Edit: I think you cannot kill too many SCVs, Terran is too glad to get rid of that useless shit and make a bigger army with mules.

Ace has always been one of my favorite players... I thought he played perfect that game, but it is just SO hard to take out a big MMG deathball like that. A few more storms would've done it =/

Ace has also been one of my favorite players as well, but I don't think jumping to balance is the reason. Orb already covered the importance of sentries, but what first came to my mind after all those medivacs remained was the fact that he didn't use feedback nearly enough, especially since HTs that are warped in are already ready to feedback.

Orb already covered the importance of sentries, but what first came to my mind after all those medivacs remained was the fact that he didn't use feedback nearly enough, especially since HTs that are warped in are already ready to feedback. Would barely need the medivacs in the first place if not for the storms. Protoss army was simply overmatched.

You should make a program that randomly generates a bingo card at a button press so that way we can make our own unique bingo cards!

Well I'm not a programming guy, but I'll see if I can figure out something that will accomplish pretty much the same thing. At the very least, the new version of the bingo cards should have a few variants to choose from.

Great cast orb, lots of games, the only thing I didn't like about your casting tonight was that you yell too much at times, but overall you're a very good caster. I can't say the same for the other guy (WackSteven I think?), he didn't add any insight to the broadcast and his play by play was awkward, it also really doesn't help that he is using a mic that you could buy for $10.

Just an hour until our next broadcast! Some excellent games coming up today!
Day 2 Broadcast Schedule:Round 1 ClassicPrime.WE vs. oGs.NaDa EG.Puma vs. Clash.Mook oGs.Top vs. FXO.TheBest TSL.Revival vs. NsHS.Sage Round 2 FXO.Gumiho vs. EG.HuK oGs.Illusion vs. FXO.Leenock Round 3 oGs.ForGG vs. (Winner of HuK/Gumiho) 2-3 more matches! Round 43-4 matches!

Looked like Nada got strike cannons off on the destructible rocks with most of his Thors in time before they got feedbacked?
Pretty sure Nada was doing what Jjakji did and researching strike cannon just to blow Thor energy with it so they don't get feedbacked too badly at least.

Didn't see the Jjaki game but thats pretty smart. Definitely saw the rocks die in about half a second.

I just wanted to say: Orb - pls have my babies! You are my favorite solo caster, and even alone you can give Tastosis run for their money. It just so nice to listen to someone smart

I can't shake the thought that Artosis showed up with $500 for NaDa after that match was played, saying "thanks for proving my point, bro!"
|
Flawless game from NaDa, refuting Classic's whimsical play (third before adding Gates or Robo when you don't even know if the Terran player took his gases, really?).
|
Aww, fuck, I missed NaDa?

I have seen charge sniped so often by PuMa in progames, he really has amazing TvP timings.

Already 8 minutes and the P still hasn't fixed his saturation, his main has too many worker since he pulled too many to his main after the drop

He did reasonably in WCG korea too tbh, wins over Nada, Sculp, and SuperNova. Think he pulled out a couple of wins for FXO in the GSTL too. I reckon he'll be back in the GSL in the first half of the year.

I don't understand why a creep tumor would hinder terran very much, I guess they cant lift the CC instantly but that's never been that good? They can still CC first and lift to the island and take it safely.

True it actually doesn't make a whole lot of sense. 5 SCVs in a CC fly over and can kill 2 tumors easy, with good micro maybe even 3. So 1 really isn't a problem at all...
Just makes islands even worse for Protoss than they already are lol (at least if the island isn't in blink range it's actually rly shitty for Protoss)

I don't think it's useless TBH, you have to waste 1 scan, plus the time from 5 scvs not mining, plus the time for the creep to disappear, which makes it not really viable during early game. Late game it favours terran IMO, but I think every protoss should make a warp prism if the game goes longer than 15 minutes, worst case scenario you force some turrets.

I still don't get the terrible decision from PuMa to commit his banshees in the first fight. He was in a very awkward position after this, and basically lost because of this awful fight.

Take comfort in the fact that asd will lose this game.

No, it was formulated to destroy a no gas expo, you've been consistently wrong and you've just been repeatedly bashing asd for going for a build that was BY FAR the superior build in that situation. A proxy reaper would have done very little damage, with half decent scv micro and asd knew that, so he metagamed and went with concussive marauders, yes he could have built a reaper but instead he tried to float it to snipe the depots, but he made a huge error in assessing the situation and let PuMa get his bunker up. THAT he could have done better, but calling a code S terran who's best matchup is TvT bad for making a marauder instead of a reaper in that situation is a mistake at best.
|
Is it just me, or is Orb becoming a really good caster? And by good, I mean REALLY good. He has good game knowledge and a nice voice, but I think now he also seems to have a lot more confidence than he had a couple of months ago. He seems cool now.

going to start watching this stream more. high quality play and i love orbs style. not as polished as others with more experience, but he has really good knowledge of the game and shows genuine enthusiasm at important times, not just in the battles.
Another Important thing is he is talking the ENTIRE time in the early game. I'm watching Huk v Forgg and he walked through the scouting intentions, notes the +25 gas collection, etc. Lots of times in GSL Tasteless will give his "well there is some downtime here..." nononnono.

This build from 4GG doesn't make much sense, especially on this map. It doesn't prevent a 1 gate expo and it's not that great defensively.

Marauder expand was scrapped because of when 3 gate voidrays were really popular, but protoss have stopped doing that recently so sometimes you see it now. It's still an auto loss if they happen to blind counter it like that.

Agreed, but since vr allins are so uncommon now, and because it has SUCH an economic advantage over a 2 rax expo, it's still a great build if you can get away with it =D

Forgg is so very overrated, glad it's being demonstrated in his last few games (Code S, and this game). Full credit to HuK, who I'm a huge fan of, but if Forgg is anywhere near his hype level then HuK should theoretically be a walkover for him, and it was almost the other way around.

The second game wasn't really an allin, he had an expo up and was just defending with his units. Then ForGG moves out with a portion of his army, gets flanked and loses the majority of it. So Huk goes in for the kill.

This isn't really about HuK but I'll bite. You clearly don't remember the last GSL? Stomped out of Code A. HuK only got knocked out of Code S because he lost to the runner up (Leenock) twice in R16 group stage, after stomping his R32 group, and then he lost in Code A to a Code S Terran (Keen) Forgg walked into Code S and walked straight out, yep it was a hard group, but so is every group in Code S... (HuK took out Puzzle and Clide in November R32, for example). ForGG got manhandled by Leenock even after having a ridiculous build order advantage at the start of the game.. Jjakji is overrated. His TvT is too weak to be considered a top 3 terran.

You aren't the 3rd best player in the world simply because you won 2 series. Jjakji admitted that he would've lost the Oz series if Oz played more conservatively. MMA barely lost to Oz and he's beaten Leenock in every game since Providence. And MvP barely lost to Leenock.
At this point all we know is that Jjakji is good. We don't know if he's a perennial contender.

I feel that Happy, Supernova, Jjakji, and maybe a few others (Keen, Ganzi, Taeja?) are all on an equivalent second tier, after MVP and MMA.

Is that why Younghwa beat him 2-1 in KSL? Damn, Finale has won a KSL but that doesn't make him a top Protoss in the world. Oz having the best PvT in the world is a questionable assumption anyway.
Point is, we need to see more games out of Jjakji before we start to rate him among players who have been in Code S for much longer.
Supernova, Polt, Keen, Ganzi.

Jjakji is arguably the 3rd best Terran right now, but it is contentious because MVP and MMA are so far ahead of him. Jjakji gets the title largely because of his GSL win, but let's not forget that there are guys like Ganzi (Code A champ and Code S semifinalist) and Happy (Code S semifinalist) who are also very close to him in skill level. Ganzi in particular just beat Jjakji in the Ro32, but since Ganzi has no Code S title (yet), Jjakji is still more accomplished in my opinion.
Like any ranking, it is often easy to determine the #1 and #2 players, since they are outliers (MVP and MMA). It is hard for Jjakji to stand out because there are so many good Korean Terrans.

There is really no point in arguing how good Jjakji is. There is no doubt he is a very strong player, but we just need to see more...

You listed a player who couldn't manage to get into code S this season and who did VERY mediocre in the Blizzard Cup. He made it out of group stages by simply beating out a really bad nestea and a naniwa. Keen, who is very good yes, but is still up and coming and really there is no way to gauge his true skill yet because his most notable achievements were a team league all kill in bo1s against slayers and stomped out huk with some new meta. Seriously, Keen's tourn around from mediocre to good is nothing compared to jjakji's. Then Ganzi, who probably has the worst TvP I've ever seen, and Supernova, my #4. Let me remind everyone that jjakji did in fact go all the way and won the VERY LAST GSL against a Leenock with enough momentum behind him to tumble MVP.

Well, there was this one time I saw this bronze guy play TvP...
Joking aside, I do want to know why everybody thinks Supernova should be in the top 5. He is certainly very good, but what results does he have besides winning Code A a few months back? He did qualify for WCG, but was knocked out earlier than expected by a non-Korean. His Code S runs have not been spectacular either.
I do agree with you that Jjakji is the 3rd Terran at this point, since MMA and MVP are the only terrans with GSL titles...ok enough of the "ignore Polt" game, but Polt is not playing that well anymore and is languishing in Code A.

Let me remind everyone that jjakji did in fact go all the way and won the VERY LAST GSL. Qualifying for WCG in Korea/winning WCG Korea is much more difficult than WCG itself imo. The only reason he didn't take 2nd was because he had to play MVP in the ro4 instead of the finals. Then before this he beat out DRG twice in GSL and in AOL, then lost against MVP again later on in AOL. He also barely lost against MVP when he was ahead in both games 2 and 3 in mech vs mech. Then he rolls through his code A bracket like no problem against his weakest matchup, and then tops the toughest group in GSL when it changed to bo3 format.

Yes, yes it is. But in all fairness, when he beat MC in the NASL finals, he did not use the 1-1-1 once in that 7 game series. When he played Hero in the season 2 finals, he used a 2 base variant only once. He plays to win, and against Protoss he does often.
Add Cyrano to the list of Puma's prey.

LOL so all of a sudden the results of one GSL are the only results that matter and everything else can be dismissed due to lack of importance? I can play this game all day.
Of course he deserved his win over Oz; short of poisoning his food Jjakji played better that day.
A player who got knocked down into Code A because of a BO loss (a specific snipe build to be precise) and a cheese that barely failed. And then he dominated his other opponents in macro games. Meanwhile he initially goes 3-1 in his Blizzard Cup group, proceeding to lose to the best ZvT in the world and barely loses to the player he just dominated in the last game. Then he loses 3-1 to MvP. First game is a scouted proxy Thor rush and pretty much an auto-loss, second game is genuinely poor play, third game he beats MvP with the same comp (marine/tank), fourth game he barely loses because of an incomplete BC transition.
Keen's been in the GSL since May and Code S since August. No new meta whatever from HuK, just poor builds. He's been mostly overlooked because of mediocre TvT, the very matchup Jjakji successfully avoided on his road to the GSL finals. Pretty insincere of you to dismiss BO1 team format since the best players in the world need to excel in all kinds of tournaments. Jjakji may have shown he is great at preparing for specific opponents but he is severely unproven in team leagues.
I'm sorry, you need to replace Ganzi with TOP and you would be correct.
Fact of the matter is Jjakji is just another bandwagon player at the moment and he has to prove that he has legitimate staying power. It's easy to crow about his games with Oz and Leenock and forget that he barely scraped by his Ro32 and Ro16 groups. It's easy to forget that the GSL champion depends just as much on luck as on skill to win, and that many tournament winners never reproduce their success again (Inca? Rainbow? Great? Kwanro?). The reason we call MvP and MMA the best terrans is because they have proven themselves to be consistent in all tournament types and all situations. Jjakji requires more time to ascertain his skill level. He's top 10 in my book but top 3 is stretching it.

Very possible. I know for example in previous weeklies DRG did not join because of this issue.

As Tycho from Penny Arcade says, It can be hard to explain it in a meaningful way.
Brenna asked me what SOPA was last night, and I was quiet for about fifteen seconds while I tried to create a definition that would make any kind of sense to someone who wasn’t a Redditor. If you say that it’s a mechanism for curbing the distribution of copyrighted material, that’s not something that people think is “wrong.” .... Someone asked me my “stance” on SOPA/PIPA last week, and I told them that I had the same stance as every other conscious being; that it’s Satanic. But I didn’t know what to do.
You can't quite just explain it as "the government is going to shut down Wikipedia and Youtube." That line of argument is most hyperbolic FUD designed to scare people into a "Oh, SOPA must be bad then" mentality. Any real argument has to be based on the inherent freedom of information and impartiality that build the Internet, and it's not a principle that everyone is aware of.

I'm sad... Jookto did not deserve that game. I want people to be able to see his potential, apparently he's a supergosu in the teamhouse. Pretty much impossible to set up a flank against that insane tank count lategame with the whole choke taken up . In the meantime, this looks like oGs's tournament, Jook in ro8 barely losing to JJAKJI, with super and STC in the semis, having beat squirtle and taeja, the weekly bonjwa. Any real argument has to be based on the inherent freedom of information and impartiality that build the Internet, and it's not a principle that everyone is aware of. Here's my shot at explaining it, maybe you'll have an easier time next time you're asked: Both pieces of legislation are attempts, heavily sponsored by the entertainment industry, to curb copyright infringement online by blocking websites that host or link to it. However, the bills utterly fail to prevent piracy, as they don't provide any mechanisms to actually take down the copyrighted material. Instead, upon a filed complaint (accusations do not need to include any proof, nor is there due process or ANY investigation), the authorities are instructed to take down the ENTIRE DOMAIN.
The current versions of these laws also require DNS providers to block the domains and search engines to block them. Both these previsions are under heavy attack, but are still in the bills.
There was a big amendment (the "manager's amendment") made to SOPA that clarified its scope as purely against poorly-defined "foreign" websites, leaving domestic companies in the purview of the horrifically abused DMCA, though it will be hard to suggest any website isn't affected by the bill.
My current example of the overreaching that these bills would provide: A driver is accused of speeding. Without any evidence to support the claim, the entire nation's highway system is closed and erased from every map.

Does orb realize he didn't have a single tech lab? It's over at that timing. Even if you have like 5 bunkers set up you won't have enough DPS to stop them from killing off every SCV and still being left over with a good amount of units.

Been sick home from work and I gotta say couldn't have been a better time! First chance I've had to watch the ESVTV weekly live I was hoping for a Leenock/STC finals myself, enough TvT already even if the games have been sick. Nova didn't look good in any of the games Hopefully STC can do better. I'm still a bit apprehensive about his multitask though, he kept getting supply blocked and was banking cash way before maxing (at around 130+ supply).
|
For those not watching Leenock is up 1-0 vs TheSTC in the finals! Come check it out!

Man Leenock making ultras look awesome, albeit somewhat sloppy at the same time. Sometimes ultra pathing reminds me a bit of dragoons lol
|
what is this........ stc falling apart
|
leenock winning against a proxy 2 rax with a 17 pool and kept his hatch alive.
:D
|
I really want tacos for some reason.
|
Man STC really wants to kill him here.
|
I thought zerg was supposed to be the race that swarms their opponent with endless units?
|
This series is nuts! Great hold on the proxy 2rax, epic play from both sides on Daybreak!
|
Leenock with sick army control and micro :O
|
orb is so zerg biased... good caster, but needs a terran co-caster so that the cast isn't so pro-zerg...
|

that was in sc1, mule and marine are the real swarm

i would have lost wayyyy earlier, leenock is so good.
|
A medivac at 28 supply. What?!!?!? This is going to be awesome whatever it is.
|
damn its true that STC multitasking is not the best, but that guy has so many differents openers, its crazy,,, epic builds

I wouldn't say that at all, right in that last game when STC was dropping Leenocks main he was saying that STC could go into the natural at the same time as dropping but unfortunately his multitasking doesn't seem quite at that level to micro 2 screens at the same time. That's just one small example too on a whole in general I wouldn't say he is zerg biased.

|
orb missed the baneling land mines... -_-
|
Thanks for tuning in all week everyone!
|
Haha I remember that actually I was thinking that he was going off on Leenocks defense but sometimes I think casters do that too often, focus solely on what one player was doing because it looked better or won the battle, when what the other person did was still awesome just not quite as spectacular.
Ya those landmines kinda turned the tide there, the composition at the end with broods and ling\bane infestor was disgusting, just steamrolled completely. Even with more vikings that would have been a roflstomp.
|
Do they play a 3rd place game?
|
Stc got owned T_T
Only MVP can play macro terran.
ninjaedit: against leenock

what an utterly ridiculous statement
|
stc is pretty good, but then again SO is leenock. i think he's definitely code s level if not just the lower tiers. he's definitely one of the craftiest terrans and this gives him a huge edge.

Thank you and rest of ESVTV for having us first chance I have gotten to watch it live all week and it was great fun
|
Wow, TheSTC beat Jjakji? What happened
|
Once again, i'll be re-commentating most of Day2 games in French today at 19h CET. Watch for "ESV TV FR" in the featured streams area !
I'll be doing final day tomorrow.

orb is so top notch, adebisi is a great support for him too :D
♥♥♥ Huge fan.
|
Are there any english casts without orb? He really makes this unbearable imo.
|
Naama SCV-Train too strong :o
|
2 port banshee? Strange build, curious about how this turns out.
|
Oh Naama, you are a cunning devil.
This could still end hilariously badly for either player, however.
|
This is a crazy strategy! Naama how did you make it work?
|
Amazing 2-base play by Naama. Genius builds.
|
|
Wow, Naama crushed him. Absolutely crushed him. Sure Dream did not play very well, but that was an awesome build.
|
Naama reminds me of this poker player I knew that would just go all-in (or make a huge bet) whenever he thought he had an advantage.
Scary thing was, he was usually right.
The guy has guts.
|
A 7-1-2 off 2 base? Interesting...I wonder how effective this is over the long run...

The guy has guts. I believe he said in an interview that he sees moments where he should outright kill a player if he just pulls his SCVs and attacks, hence the Naama SCV trains.
So yeah, that's exactly how Naama works. :D
I believe he also said that the ultimate mindgame is to go cloaked banshee 3 games in a row.

Having that reputation is a huge advantage in itself. If you're playing against a guy like that you have to constantly ask "will I die if he pulls everything and goes bitbybit on my ass?" It takes work to make the answer "no" all the time.
|
I wonder if Dream had ever seen that particular strat that Naama used in the second game. It was pretty damn awesome. Probably the most one-sided victory I've ever seen a foreigner have over a Korean.
|
i am really happy that they play this in good hours for the west, the view numbers are so much higher than 2 months ago !

Shuttle vs Symbol has been quite interesting, although it's gotten a bit stale now with Symbol trying to hold on but controlling poorly.
There was some interesting hold position micro with the ultras on the tanks though.

WHY IS TAEJA SO GOOD AT KOREAN WEEKLY?!
like does somebody actually have an answer?
