But also, yeah, obviously desrow isn't up to caliber with golden, but good for him for at least going up against it. hopefully the loss will motivate him even more while he's in Korea and really give a serious shot at practicing. | ||

Desrow also has an army of people who come flooding into these showmatch threads to tell everyone how they'll cheer for him, and then they fade back into the background. They'll always say things like, "Well, i don't care about teamliquid, i'm just coming here to support desrow, because he told his stream to" But yea, the games was fun to watch from a zerg perspective, at least | ||

Congratulations to Golden though, that guy is sick good and there's definitely no shame in losing to him even if he's one of the lesser known Korean players, especially considering how much of a stomping he gave to so many other players in IPL. | ||

The thing with SC2's ladder is that if you play a lot, and I mean A LOT, like desRow did (he has played fulltime 8-10 hours a day for what now, a year+?) you almost inevitably will reach GM if you are of decent masters caliber in the first place. He barely even made it to top100 in NA GM either despite this and had a win percentage of like 55% if i'm not mistaken. To me he's just kind of mediocre in every way and i'm not seeing this potential that I see in other players. Like, I don't fancy his way of thinking SC2 at all. For instance he's pretty much exclusively copying others' builds without much innovation at all, and then performing them in a rather lackluster way. When he has mastered those builds they're already 'outdated' and he's on the backtrack once again, looking for another build to grab. There's no inherent problem with taking other's builds but if you do you should also think: 1. What can I do to improve this build and to make it fit my own playstyle? 2. What is the point of this build and when should I avoid/stop using it? To me he usually doesn't seem to answer either of those questions and just uses them like they're the holy graal of builds and have no flaws whatsoever. I like a more rational, pragmatic approach to SC2, I believe it makes you develop in a much better fashion rather than if you just look at how other's do without reflecting over the circumstancial facts. Don't get me wrong here, i'm not a Desrow basher. I've watched his stream quite a bit and from time to time i've enjoyed it, but I generally don't think he thinks of SC2 in a constructive manner which is unfortunate, and due to this I'm not seeing how he's supposed to improve in the future either unless he changes his thought process. | ||

Win percentages on ladder don't mean anything at all, and desrow is better than many of the NA grandmasters players when he is playing his best. I don't think he showed his best play in this showmatch, but I have seen him looking much stronger sometimes on NA ladder, even against strong players. Also ladder is a pretty terrible indicator of skill. I don't think desrow will be winning mlg any time soon, but he just got to korea, and the showmatches he has lost so far have been to players with very abnormal styles. Qxc plays a hyper-aggressive terran and Golden used builds which are risky and definitely not standard. | ||
