in IPL 3, Idra forfieted 3 of his group round games, didn't even play them, just refused. And noone cared. Why is this such a big deal?

forfeiting group games is much better then playing them and doing a joke build. Forfeiting doesn't waste the casters time etc. and doesn't mock the tournament and opponent.
Probe rush is just awful, if he had forfeited it would have been ok.

Cause its FOTM to hate on Naniwa for no apparent reason at all, they are just hating for the sake of it. Give me one GOOD reason why we should hate on him, he's a good player after all.

1. "joke tournment"
2. thumbs down to Nestea
3. history of BM in warcraft 3
4. was a 1 base cheeser who evolved into a FFE into 2 base all in
5. known for throwing tantrums (knocking Forsen's noodles to the floor after loss to DRG)

Just because a player is good, doesn't mean you have to like them either. It doesn't matter how good a player is, if he can't compose himself after a loss and "acts like a bitch", he's going to get criticized and heckled.

If there were betting lines out of these matches it's absolutely unacceptable regarding that as well. I doubt Naniwa researched that so it's morally the same decision.

i work for a betting company and we take these things into consideration. you will likely find that fulham with something to play for will be favourites against manchester united with nothing to play for. were not stupid

lines were up before the group started though, and then i doubt it was being taken into consideration.

I'm sure during the live cast everyone was saying MMA almost screwed up the bunker rush and game but I was really just impressed that Leenock didn't choke under all that pressure, I feel like most zergs would of cracked. The ZvZ was pretty nuts, Leenock showed some sick micro. Naniwa vs. MMA was a very funny game, I feel bad that Naniwa got knocked out from these games, I felt like he had it at one point against Leenock, he could of beat Polt and he almost beat MMA so that's pretty sad. Leenock against Polt, again I really love Leenock's composure, he just doesn't crack under pressure it seems like. I wish Naniwa had to decided to play out a last game against Nestea, even though it didn't matter so that sucked.

Have to love Wolf saying he would find apropiate 110% a 6 months ban for Naniwa, elitism to the max, lost quite some respect really, people in a position of power shouldnt say such things.

Did he really say this? What a joke. Wolf, you're full of shit. If anything, Naniwa did GOM and blizzard a favor: attitude gets attention, and people love the entertainment.

Professional organizations need to also watch their reputation.
If all they are doing is catering to spoiled brats, it speaks to the maturity and professionalism of the league.
They need to explain why people shouldn't be ashamed to have their product represented by this league.

Showmanship and entertainment is one thing, compromising the integrity of the game is whole other thing.
I don't like how people are DOWN playing this.

What is the difference between this and match fixing?
Yes, nothing was on the line, but he is still getting paid almost as much as a Runner Up of Code A.
And Naniwa couldn't come anywhere close to getting that, since it's also hard as hell to get.

A lot of the arguments are very objective, including mine, the bottom line should be (repeat):
How is this different from match fixing?
Coca got pulled for GSL completely. Player in the past had much worse consequences.
There isn't any betting or money changing hands this time, but standards of professionalism need to be set and enforced for the sport to be taken seriously and not turn into a sideshow or joke.

Exactly. if anyone here is serious about esports and they actaully want to help it grow, they must do everything in their power to prevent such immature displays in the future.
Nazgul was correct to write on this tread that his attitude by Naniwa was a middle finger to Gom, the fans, his opponents and everyone who made that possible.
I am not saying here that we should condemn Naniwa for it, after all a lot of pros came to his defence, it just shows that they do not understand how sports work.

Consenting to play mediocre games because of a lack of motivation and then do nothing in an effort to make sure that the cause of that lack of motivation is dealt with is also disrespecting to the fans. That's what most players do when faced with a situation like this, and in the case of the Koreans they then have the gall to claim otherwise and bad-mouth NaNiWa for making the decision to forfeit and let the tournament move on to actual pro play.

GOM is giving everyone the biggest finger of all, making a format that forces distraught players who have lost to keep playing for nothing, and promotes mediocre play, unfair competition and even matchmaking in the case of a teammate or friend who has no chance to advance playing one that has.

What are you talking about? You see this as Gom's fail. Please look around you, in almost every sport and every tournament/league there are always times that games mean nothing. Lets say Barcelona is gonna win La Liga 3 rounds before the league ends, that means the last 3 games mean zero to them. Do you see Barcelona will just forfeit those games and all go on vacation?
There is always something worth fighting for, like in the WorldCup, often enough the last round in somes group are meaningless game since the first 2 two spot in the group are secured so no matter what you end up 3rd or 4th you still out. And I've seen amazing game from these 3/4 team.

Naniwa should at least play for his pride, I'm pretty sure that is what professional and sportmanship stand for. If you have no particular gain from the gain, fight for your pride, or at least for the fans that cheering for you.

Some ppl like TLO have a personality that is public friendly, some don't, that is the real world. Expecting everyone to be like TLO is utterly ridiculous and shows a lack of respect for other people's personalities. There will be individual approaches to playing the game, despite what one fan may see as an 'ideal' personality in their eyes.

The majority of people don't like douche bags, that is the real world. Expecting the SC2 community to like someone just because they are good is a bit pretentious.

Cool guy, bold statement. And apparently YOU know what it takes to be a champion.

Most to my knowledge, you don't too.

I dunno i think nestea old age is catching up to him, his multitask and decision making become horrendous at the late game stage. I think as the game drags on he gets major mental fatigue and his concentration suffers greatly as a result.
