Dudes, if you use the same equipment for the next 5 years, you can be running tournaments and not need to buy much else for that period of time, will leave it there, short and clear, and not go into the very dificult basics of finances.

How much is the prize pool? I'm sorry, but when there are only a few dozen people the first 2 days and maybe 3 or 4 times that on a Saturday...you are not doing great. It's hard for me to imagine tons of people getting in on the Prime deal given the early stream problems...or even without that. They invested a ton into this first event...and they probably would have considered breaking even as a huge success. I simply can't imagine they came anywhere close to that based on the tiny crowds. I remember that they said they almost sold out their tickets so we might not see the shots of all audiences, as the place is big. And you can't really base the number of people on Thursday and Friday, since the 15$ pass is sold for Saturday and Sunday anyway. And like you said, this is their first tournament so if they host their next live tournament in a place that doesn't limit the age, then we could even see a bigger crowd. So why being pessimistic when we don't really have the raw number of the actual data?

I am going to keep saying it over and over. Everything has been going so well, and they have put forward such an amazing effort, especially for their first time. When things went wrong they handled it all so well. They had Lani doing interviews and coverage. They had BW matches, including Boxer playing again, and they kept the tournament moving. I just really can't praise this event enough. I love MLG, IEM and Dreamhack among other tournaments, but IPL has impressed me the most so far. In a way I think that the fact that things went wrong in the beginning ended up just showcasing how good of an organization they really are.

They have done tons to make this one of the best looking tournaments we have seen. Do you think that is cheap? Why are all the other tournaments not able to do it? The fact that it looks so great and they have so much content is clearly because they spent a lot of money doing it right. When you do that, you are expecting to get a pretty huge return to make it worth it. You look at those crowds and tell me that's huge. Thursday and Friday were bare. There was hardly anyone there. It looks decent today because it is a Saturday and there were more people than the last 2 days...but it is still a tiny crowd. I think you are being really naive to think that they can afford to continue running events like this with tiny crowds and the potential for stream problems. If it had pulled an MLG crowd...or even half of that, I'd feel a lot more optimistic about their future. For the record, I think it's sad...I'm not happy about it. This is also the first tournament based solely around SC II (no halo, no call of duty), the stream numbers and amount of advertising/sponsors help. Better production value doesn't always mean they had to throw more money at it. I'm suggesting that most new ventures don't gain much money and barely break even. Over time though as production value and entertainment value grows (along with taking constructive criticism...aka not making it 21+ event) they will become more profitable or die out. IPL does have some great production value and a ton of potential. I don't think you could of said the same for the first MLG ever produced. Either way, I'm not happy about the lackluster showing of fans (not that I've seen pictures of the crowd today). I also know that this is the first time IGN has had a huge live event. If you actually think that the sponsors didn't know what they were getting into when taking on the first event then I have no idea. They obviously have the funding and the more events that they produce the more fans will come out (especially if it isn't 21+). Maybe I'm wrong though and IPL will merge with another league or die out. Eventually there should be 2-3 premier leagues and are setup around the same time each year. A decibel meter you have next to your speakers? Do you have behind the scenes stream numbers and subscription numbers? Do you know how much is paid by the sponsors who are getting exposure? Stop acting like you know the numbers...you are basing it totally on audio or visual of the crowd.
