I understand that Puma got first in open bracket play so he would end up playing the individual that did worst in group play (unless I'm mistaken here?). So what determines who did worst in group play?

did not catch any of the games yesterday due to the delay, can't wait to watch the VODs as I was told the games were much better than the first day

Pretty good racial diversity in this tournament: 12 Terran, 12 Zerg and 8 Protoss.

I love how Hero plays 1 series vs sleep loses in crazy lag games then gets randomed to 4th in group and then gets randomed to play Puma in first round seems fair

12-16 in groups play 1-4 in open bracket, the matchups were "randomly" determined, afaik. [i'd put money on them being handpicked for the most "drama"]

Not sure how tiebreakers work in pool play.

If Mana can take Puma down, then I don't see Puma stopping MC if they meet. Even though MC has been doing so bad lately and has a losing record against Puma, Puma does not look that solid

Yea pretty cool. Maybe he should have went to sleep early and skipped playing today for a better seed.

Whine less. All the players in that group agreed it would be best to not continue the group stage. External issues influenced the tournament. When you agree to a randomized drawing that can place you against someone easy or someone hard, you sometimes randomly get the worst possible result.
Every god damn page in this thread has a post written by what reads like a whiny little kid. God.

Wow... bottom of the bracket is so stacked..
And once again Idra gets a relatively lucky draw and not the hardest path. Artist is probably the least accomplished korean in the tourney, not a bad draw considering he got 4th in his group after forfeiting. Hes got luck of the irish when it comes to seedings (easiest mlg groups etc). Alive is decent but there's like... 4 terrans better than him in the tourney.
Rooting for demuslim to do well but dang.. hes surrounded by sick players in bottom of the bracket. Really nice spread of players in terms of races and also regions though, great tournament.

GOOOO BOXER!!!!, He would have killed Huk in the 3rd game in BW
|
i dont see a protoss getting to even the semi finals to be honest in this tournament.
stephano will take down kiwi, huk will eventually lose to alive, and puma knows how to abuse tvp to the max and will take out hero/mc. and white-ra has to play huk in a pvp which i dont think he can win.
and socke wont get by ryung.
I fear for another sad result from the protoss race.
|
I think IdrA's side of the bracket is relatively strong. I doubt he will get passed Alive if he beats Artist and I'm an IdrA fan. Alive is an excellent Korean Terran who 3-0'd his group and only lost a game to HuK iirc. Never mind Huk, White-Ra, MMA and Stephano if he manages to get that far.

Also with the way the brackets work out I could easily see a mma vs ryung final.

Honestly this looks pretty good for the EG crew. They have an outside (but realistic) chance of having 4 people reaching the quarterfinals. And there aren't any team kills to worry about.
IdrA vs. Artist and than aLive. Both of them are very realistic wins for IdrA. If he can play like he did against PuMa vs. aLive, he has a strong chance there.
Huk vs. kawaiirice and than white-ra. I'd give the edge to white-ra in this foursome. But huk definitely can take it as well.
DeMuslim vs. Ret and than thorzain. Yea, DeMuslim has it rough. Probably a slight underdog in both. But definitely not a huge underdog in either.
PuMa vs. HerO and than MC. I don't see how he loses to either of them.
But what the hell is up with IPL and their map pool and map choices? The finals start on Xel'Naga Fortress and the map pool includes Crevasse. This tournament is basically set up for a terran to win. There are so many terran favored maps (crevasse, xel'naga fortress, antiga) and the starting maps are nowhere near balanced. If the finals is ZvT, I don't care who the Z and T are, the T will win.
