it's me again today with even another showmatch of the "SHOWMATCHPALOOZA Showatch Series" (awesome name, right?!). This one though is going to be quite a special one and only suits those who are are tougher than tough, super resilient and have a lot of time! Bring a beer and some snacks ... well bring a barrel and a 7 course menu.
it is going to be a Bo11 TvT bewteen GoOdy and Strelok for a 150$ cash prize!
Now you might be (even rightfully) asking "omg Goody, wtf TvT, OMGWTF Bo11? Are you insane?" The answer is: 'I am special' hehe. The idea of doing this is actually not my own but from one of my viewers. So about two weeks, I was streaming a weekly cup or some other showmatch I was thinking out loud what other - not so standart - events I could do. One troll then said something like " Haha, why don't you just let GoOdy play a Bo11 TvT ...". And thought "Sure, why not."
Other people do 24 hour streams. I just let GoOdy play a Bo11 TvT.
Why Strelok? So the first player that came to my mind was Strelok, since I always wanted to make some showmatches with or invited him to my own tournament series but unfortunately we were never able to get something worked out. Last week when the DIMAGA vs HasuObs showmatch was supposed to start and Dimaga was not showing Strelok called Dimaga (both are from the Ukraine) and even offered himself to play, but both HasuObs and me decided it's best to replace a Zerg with another Zerg player. I was not able to get in contact with Strelok right away and needed to go on with the planning for the event, so I asked other terrans and some of the responses I got were seomthing like: " FUCK NO " , "WTF U CRAZY?" etc. pp. So I even do appreciate it even more that Strelok is man enough for this stamina demanding task!
If someone wants to donate a little to the prize pool, I would not mind at all. People were donating about 45$ to "the cause" I will come up with the rest of the money, but since you can't make a lot of money with streaming. I would appreciate a little help
So here is the mappool - the first 5 maps are fixed the remaining maps will be loser's choice out of a 11 map mappool - and we are going to start oldschool:
1. Steppes of War 2. GSL Daybreak 3. ICCup Katrina 4. GSL Bel'Shir Beach 5. MLG Antiga Shipyard
I can't believe Strelok agreed to do this lol I remember that he raged about playing Goody on numerous occasions and now he plays a bo11, just insane :D
Already made up your mind about the maps? bo11 tvt could definitely allow 1-2 new maps, like the ones ESV uses in their Korean Weekly (+cough+ Katrina, Ithaca +cough+) :D
ROFL, BO11 could take hours, though if i were Strelok i'd cheese a bit to speeden things up a bit. Though i guess Goody is pretty good at holding cheeses, because i can imagine everyone does that on the ladder to him.
Last games i saw Strelok vs Goody went pretty good for Strelok, and weren´t even THAT long. Who knows, perhaps its over with a 6:2 or something like that, and goes under 5 hours overall oO.
Could also be that both are in great form and we get 11 Mech-turtle-TvTs á 50 minutes and Endrey needs 2 or 3 days

good idea with the maps i will think about something
Goody has got this, strelok may start strong but Goody shall wear him down until his panzer's can just roll right over him! Gl to both players but Goody has got this!
Strelok is a pretty damn strong terran player, except the problem is I don't think GoOdy would do this without a trick or two up his sleeve so I think this could get very interesting very quickly.
Awesome. There should not be any problems with the players performance should it be match point at 10 with game 11 deciding the victor. This is what 8 hours+ of training a day does right? Gets you that Michael Phelps type endurance.
I will definetely watch the whole match. It doesn't matter how good Strelok is. Goody will demoralize him in a bo11 and there will be at least 4-5 games of 1 hour length.
On September 16 2011 01:30 TotalBiscuit wrote: Gotta say, if you wanted a really ridiculous BO11, then put him up against Xlord XD That said, this is guaranteed to be interesting.
They should do this showmatch on the old ladder maps. Can you imagine TvT on Steppes? After the early 2 rax nonsense that is bound to happen, the late game is reached because there is a tank stalemate straight away.
On September 16 2011 04:17 OscarN wrote: Most boring bo11 to come yet... really. tvt... i will not be watching....
Two good players... jsut a boring ass matchup
TvT is by far the most versatile matchup in SC2. Every unit and every upgrade has its place in this matchup. There are short games and there are ultra late games with nukes, heat seaker missiles, battlecruisers, and, and, and... ( e.g. GSL August final game 1)
If you don't play terran and don't like watching games without your own race involves, that's fine. But this doesn't make the matchup boring for everyone.
This reminds of the Sarens (?) vs Goody final for some random weekly cup a long ass time ago. BO9, and after a 30 min. game 9, sarens said something to the effect of "Fuck this shit, I don't have all day".
Considering Strelok always goes mech these days, this is going to be even longer than that series.
avilo vs goody would have been better though. although after the 4th game the casters might have suicided, so on 2nd thought maybe its for the best it doesn't happen.
Goody improved so much as a player lately. More than half of the games will end in under 30 minutes. Whole event might takes 4 hours, 5:30 with breaks and commercials.
My first thought was: Okay I undestand why other Terrans don't want to play vs Goody, but it would only be a bo5 or even a bo3.... Then i saw it will be a bo11: W T F ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY!?!?!? You can make this a 24h charity stream like TLO, Sheth and Destiny did!!!!!
Won't be watching this match, bo11 with Goody? lawl will be like 10 hours at least of boring GomTvT games, anyone who watches I salute you for being able to watch TvT that long! Hope strelok comes out with the W though!
Bo11 with Goody? I thought someone is trolling, but it seems legit :D Bo11.... TvT..... I won t watch, but gl&hf to both players and everyone who s watching
I don't get why people hate TvT that much, it's a fun to watch matchup :\
It starts at 2am for me so I'm not going to catch the first few games, but if Goody draws them out for long enough then I might be able to catch the last few.

if you get up at 7am, you might only miss the first 5-6 games.
Guess I'll be watching the first games after work on Friday evening, then go to bed, wake up on Saturday morning and watch the final games and read through the 200 pages of LR.
Man, that is one handsome picture of Goody, though Strelok's picture isn't too shabby either.
I've always admired Goody for being so adamant in maintaining his highly stylistic pure mech play, and I'll definitely be watching this and taking notes for my TvT.
No matter the skill differential, the games will be long and epic.
This event really needs to be on the TL calendar at upcoming events. We need as many viewers as possible so that we get this kind of matches more often.
Because we know these are going to be ridiculously long mech games, why not throw in some thumbnail maps for the lulz, like Steppes of War and Incineration Zone?
1. Shakuras 2. Terminus 3. Tal'Darim 4. Shattered Temple 5. Antiga Shipyard 6. Dual Sight 7. Daybreak 8. Testbug (imba for P but still a good TvT map) 9. Xel'Naga Caverns 10. ESV Katrina (used in ESV Korean Weekly) 11. ESV Ithaca (used in ESV Korean Weekly)
To me this feels like a good mix of old and new , maybe a bit heavy on the 4spawn maps but every one of these should produce some excellent (and long) TvT's and the two ESV maps are the icing on the cake of course I especially would love to see these two ex-BW players battling it out on the BW remake Katrina (:

Wow, my evening is saved :D And I really love that you support the TL-community with including this unknown map; even thought i dont think strelok will be able to take more than 1-2 games from the general, so the map woint be played, but still, nice move Gogo Goody, and thanks a lot for this event Endrey :D

Assuming we will have a 5:5 tie in the end, the last map played will be a complete unknown, user suggested map:
Takaoni and Kageoni

This is why Endrey is what i already said months ago.
Even if the chances are low he keeps an eye on interesting and important stuff.
Dont know about his statement with making to less money with streaming cause allot casters can do fairly make profit from their hobby.
Anyways wont be able to watch cause of GPRS internet , i predict a 6-3 for GoOdy even tho i hope for a 5-5 : > .
That user map looks terrible. You could have chosen some of the much higher rated maps. As it is the thread for it has under 10 posts and most of them criticism. It doesn't even follow conventions on mineral placement.
Daybreak and Bel'Shir are very hard to control with mech. I expect short, cheap games on them.
Takaoni and Kageoni... Though I do like the idea of supporting less known maps, I would have rahter loved to see Map of the Month first 6 month winner Hysteria :S Nevertheless: LOVE THE EVENT :D
i had plenty of rest last night in anticipation for this series. if there was a way to finely measure how much i aged while watching this showmatch, i would do it lol

i decided to gave it a shot anyways - lets see how it will turn out assuming we are going full distance. it would be kinda rude to take it back now.
I expect a very short game on bel shir beach too, and on steppes i expect quite a long one

Gonna watch this shit. Steppes of War? That map is tight as fuck. Naturals are seconds from eachother and you can shell gas and possibly mineral line from the ledge - this map is a nightmare against tanks, and it's gonna be tight.

You know everyone was going pure bio or tank marines. Only Goody was going pure mech. Now even koreans play his style
I remember when Steppes was part of every tournament's map pool, and you could build a rax before a depot... that made me hate terran forever. Good times. <3

It was a bit of misjudgment. Strelok lost tones of scv during a defense of that push. I think they were almost on equal scvs loses. Still Strelok with 2 CC would have a slight advantage.

he barely lost any SCV's, did he? i watched goodys stream and it didn't look like he killed many.
Too bad it ended so fast Anyway good to see some of beta style maps. I wish there were some more games on old maps like Blistering Sands or Kulas Ravinie.

he actually said it on his stream that his gonna try to make some long games. and saying how goody improved his multitasking
I feel like Goody is becoming worse in TvT. He lost to TLO, Satinii and Sarens this month. I don't know why he is losing so much, because his macro and multitasking is definitely not worse then it was when he dominated almost every TvT.
are you sure that's not because it's temporarily under "event"? usually i see his with jinro's and tyler's and the other ones, i don't have to click on "Show ## non-featured"
I was watching ESL TV (which you should totally tune in to right now) after the 5:0 Is the final score 6:2 ? Also, I'm writing this to say that Endrey is doing a lot of the community and he deserves even more recognition and respect. Props for what you're doing and especially for what you did today, I was rofl-ing even before the games started ;} Perfect idea
yes it was 6:2 for strelok. 3 hours total. i had to watch mostly from GoOdy's PoV cuz endrey's stream was kinda laggy for me.. anyone else had that problem?

Lol, both Endrey and Goody were lagging for me, only Strelok's stream was perfect :O
You know, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed endrey's commentary. It wasn't ever obtrusive, it was always about the games, and it was never fake or over-the-top. Even though he missed a few things and spent some time talking about some random stuff at times, he was always apologetic and had a very friendly tone. It was like having an excellent host.
Thanks for the showmatches. Shorter than I had expected and more one-sided as well, but entertaining nontheless.
A little trend I've seen over the last few matches you've organized: The Ukrainian players all seem to try to actually deliver a show in their showmatches in at least some of the rounds. Often it's ridiculous or unorthodox play or just fooling around because it's not too serious a match, but I really like that. The other players often just do their thing and play more standard, Ukrainians know how to entertain more.
Special Endrey I was looking forward to your commentary; it was kinda cool (I saw the 1st VoD). But that website seems super spotty. I can watch 1080p+ consistently on Twitch.tv, but on regame.tv, the VoDs stutter and it doesnt even seem to have a feature to buffer up?

Sticking to the reps for now.
All of the VoDs worked 100% fine for me with no problems.
Games were interesting if not exactly Code-S. IMO the better player definitely won.
Also, your miss-pronunciations in English were distracting on occasion but otherwise commentary was fine. You did however miss some key points of action as you were just watching someone's base and commenting on supply counts.
Overall a decent watch and I commend your initiative and thank you for bringing us this fun series.
Looking forward to the next one, the race-switching one.
1) BoX series between players of your choice, with each player having the ability to ban a unit from their opponent (can't ban marines, lings or zealots (and maybe stalkers too) cause otherwise waaay too easy to cheese). The bans can (maybe must?) change each game and must be given at the same time, independently to you; you then inform both players in lobby. Have a standardized, pre-set map pool so players can strategically ban units knowing the map and match-up (and oh don't allow random or race-switching, as that won't work here).
2) A blind-team game; here's how it works:
You select two captains, preferably players with both playing and leading experience. The captains then can form a team of ANY 10 players they know, who they can get to agree to play. The teams have no clue about team compositions until a player is called, the captains submitting a list to you before the event. First map is pre-announced by you and is something really standard, however subsequent maps are chosen by the loser and can be ANY map that's ever been in the ladder pool or used by a major tournament (make a list of which tournaments you feel qualify).
The match is played-out in a series of Bo3s, winner's league style, and at the end both team's full roosters are revealed.
3) A BoX series with players of your choice where each player uses the handicap function to bet on his ability to win; the first to 150 points (can change this number) wins. A match is worth 25pts by default, but with an additional 10pts per -10% handicap. The handicaps are told to you before the match, and only changed in the lobby when you instruct the players to. Loses do not result in lost points, but your opponent does gain points so its still very negative for you. Try to get players who will play around with this and not just go 90/100% the whole series. Pre-set map pool but with loser picks which map.
if you go directly to www.regame.tv/specialendrey you can also download the vods (no login required) so you can keep them local or watch them while downloading.

I would like to see a best of the matchup series. IT would need to be an extended series with 9 games atleast where loser picked the matchup.
For example a T player faces a Z. They go T vs Z first match Z losses and says next match will be Z vs Z ... Would be fun to see I think.

thanks for the input - unfortunately my casting was not top notch this evening. can only get better though still you should have heard me like 10 months ago
i was already putting a lot of thought into other showmatch concepts recently but its surprisingly difficult to set up a showmatch with new variables AND having it fair at the same time.
still i got some ideas - more about that in the next days to come
