I want catz to win this, just because he's kewl. And partly because he needs a big tournament win. Mind says major, but I dunno. Something about that guy.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the style of the LA players. After seeing some crazy moves in the Chinese Invitational I think its really interesting to see if the LA players have unique strats.
If you guys want to help out updating or are just looking for some info the LP page for this is 2011 Latin American Battle.net Invitational

I must say, the quality is AMAZING!!!
Beat that ESL ;>
I hope its the same amazing quality at US regionals. The europe was quite bad quality, far from HD as they said it would be.
This is however <3!

The between-match filler is kind of weird. They're showing SC2 cinematics, including the one after you beat the final mission, major spoilers if you haven't played the single player.

This has been like this since release for Blizzard. Mx is both LA and NA in the literature, but only LA for Blizzard, that makes sense as the separation is linguistic + cultural and not just geographic.

he was on LRM, MYM and afaik on ToT as well during the good old BW days. he was pretty solid.

what the /%&/ is the "demonio" in spanish translation?
is the hellion???

Reason needs to work on his muta control.
|
hopefully all these lag spikes will lead to lan ^^

I neither hate or love Major. But from seeing streems from other players like Sheth etc I know he is a master of dropping and multitasking. Doesnt even look like he is playing his best here. Have often seen him do 3-4 drops at the same time while being safe at home. I think he will take this. But Reason looks damn good.... he just fucks up at some weird times... cuz he looks damn good.
|
Wow these guys controls are TERRIBLE!!! no micro at all

Reason did it again, lol. With more army control he would have wrecked Teran.

Seriously? I am getting tired of the negativity in the sc2 community. Did you not see all the stuff happening across the map? It looked like top notch play from both, but reason had som multitasking errors that cost him the games.
|

Too bad for Reason, he made more mistakes in game 2 and still couldn't quite either contain Major or at least handle his drops. Loser bracket run for Reason now.

A side not from the games: This production is not as epic as the euro coverage. Its just studio matches. I still love it. But I wonder why they did a live event with audience for europe while doing a studio thing for south america.
PS: This is not meant is whine. Just wondered. Its a great production. But why not have an audience?

The stream has such high quality and it didn't lag even once! Reason should've completely owned Major in the second game if he had better muta control, it wouldn't be even close.

Half of the players in this invitational are not very famous on the community, maybe the big production was not worth at all =/

Not really worth it, as most of those players' fans live in South America and most can't spend that much money going there.
Go dKiLLeR!! Beat 'em all! :D

I much preferred the music they played at the EU tourament tbh, this is way too repetitive.

That is because they are playing at Blizzard HQ as far as I know. The reason for that is that LA is not a single country and there is HUGE buroucracy to get Visas and do anything. So it's not like the LA fans could travel (and money is a big problem as well of course).
So instead of paying expensive for a live event in Brazil or Mexico where only people from that country would be able to participed, they decided to make it in US and stream to everyone and that's it! So more money to the champion or whoever.
|

The EU event was held by ESL, not Blizzard. They properly couldn't get a partner to do the US/LA event. And blizzard properly don't have the capacity to have a big live audience at their HQ.

it's not very exciting

Why ironically? Reason has always been a very good player, just not as well known as Catz.

Reason is definetely more well-rounded than catz but the flaws he has are bigger, if that makes any sense.Anyways, capoch tried to do too much stuff at once : robo, templar archives, third nexus, etc. ergo he had no army to speak of.

Bah, bling bust failed for Catz and he promptly lost. I guess Killer might have an answer for knocking Major into the lower bracket.

Damn sick game by Major! + Show Spoiler +Major opens reactor hellions and scouts CatZ roach warren - Catz cancels roach warren after Major scouts it and goes into a 2 base ~25 drone bling bust. Major has switched his rax back onto reactor after 2 hellions and does a sick defense pulling scvs really well and barely losing anything. Major then pushes while CatZ is redroning and going lair with some a few tanks and does some nice high ground tactics.
|
That was pretty crushing.

WOW. this is awesome! great games so far and the stream quality is insane
|
Insane stream quality, thanks blizz.

cmon catz!! u can do it!!

why would he change to infestors like that :S

Floating 1.5k gas is now 'great macroing'. Quality of games so far is rather disappointing to be honest, but it does seem rather laggy for the players. I expected Major to be much more dominating then he currently is.

How so? See how fast they blew that gas through? They don't seem to be having lag at all.

Oh boy, not the guy I remember. Reason back in the broodwar days used to play random I still have in mind his appearance at WCG a couple of years ago, didn't win the whole but showed some decent skills. Todays games were way different from what I expected. Not Good Games. Great cast tho, as usual.

Destiny neural'd a HT vs Socke and stormed Socke's own probes. I'd dare say that's the pimpest.

MajOr is now a "random player".
And so are the two best Zerg players of Brazil - who mind you, would beat the crap out of you - or the best Protoss in Argentina(Capoch).
So sad that neither lamp, Potiguar nor wzp were invited, but I guess they had schedule/visa issues(it's a pain to get a USA visa).
These guys aren't "random", they have their names in the Latin American community - which, by the way, is what matters in a latin american invitational. Maybe they aren't really top-players, but they aren't "random players thrown at the last minute".

The competition level is still terrible in comparison to the EU qualifier. Even Catz, Major and Killer would be considered weaker players in that field, with someone like Retro being way below that. It is rather ridiculous that the prize pool and prize distribution for both the tournaments are identical given that... although it is understandable given that they're supposed to be (but just aren't) equal events in different locations.

Just because the level is terrible that players cant take this prize pool. They're pretty good and trying to make their way for competitive gaming. Reason was a internacional player that won for many good players. The prize pool is a incetive to our cenario

If it were meant to be the very best players in the world it would be 31 Koreans and Huk.
Stop whining, it's meant to be the best few players from each region.

Wait, are you implying that US and EU should have lower prize pool than Korea? That's what your logic suggests since Koreans skill level are definitely higher.

its amazing how some people just dont understand the diference from playing ladder and fighting in tournments, how the nerves gets into your game play. Also how much of "pros" we all are when watching the stream but failing in ladder.
Not to say this is about Latin American, nobody cares about how much better other regions maybe. Just like someone said up there if you think that way everyone should just stop playin and leave Starcraft 2 to the koreans.
Great tournements nice to see team mates fighting in the big scene, feel sad for reason...he could have taken down Major real easy in those games.

Hey guys thanks for all the good feedback for our stream. This is our first time going live for a huge tournament with an amazing support from an incredible team.
Our Spanish is kinda neutral because we can't speak like we do in Chile since is going to all latinamerica and well... we try our best.
There have been good games and bad games as every tournament and that makes sense because of all the Visa issues for latinamerican countries. It's kinda hard to get to USA... Thanks everybody for the feedback.
It has been a great experience to be at Blizz HQ for us and all the guys there have been very supportive. We hope to bring up the latinamerican scene and there are many players that are wandering around that weren't able to shine as the one that live in the US. KiLLeR is one of them and there are many others that will come in the future.
Haters gonna hate

We would like to say the unit names in english but there are certain rules for casting so yeah, you guys are gonna hear the unit names in the name they have for each language.

During the European Qualifiers, we had a Polish stream as well as the standard, English one. Surprised as I may be, I must admit, that our local casters did a pretty good job under those circumstances. They didn't refrain from throwing in an English phrase here and there, but that didn't deteriorate the overall quality. People are simply used to hearing about roaches, hellions and spine crawlers, and there honestly is little merit in translating those words. Maybe you should try this approach yourself?

That doesn't matter. The same could be said when "foreigners" go to Korea. The point goes to participation.
Besides, you can never assume they will look ridiculous as LA players played last year and they didn't look bad.

So frustrating to watch. Instead of sending his mutas to attack the tanks, he keeps on sending them to attack the marines. It makes me mad to watch this.

Catz needed a second hatchery to make more zerglings. He was so close to winning there when Killer had no blings for a time but Catz was floating over 500 minerals. The advantage of waiting a while for Catz's second hatch is nullified by the opportunity cost of a potential killing blow.

aaaaaaaaaaah what a huge misstep by Catz :S
|
So close Catz
|
Holy shit the quality of the stream is amazing
|
This game is actually insane.
|
|
|
sick game, catz had it if he didnt lose those 4 full energy infestors at killers south most base, he had half his drones there, 4 fungals wudda been gg.
|
|
|
Cause he can't believe he was so close on missing out of Blizzcon.
|
On August 12 2011 06:07 Odoakar wrote: Why is catz not gging?
doesn't know how far behind he is, and he is playing for 2k, and a chance at 30 k more + a blizzcon ticket.
|
On August 12 2011 06:07 Odoakar wrote: Why is catz not gging?
With two grand and a BlizzCon spot on the line, I can see why he'd play it out to the bitter end. I don't play Zerg but I'd imagine he either doesn't realize how far behind he is, or thinks he can outlast Killer.
|
killer so happy, it's nice to watch
|
|
|
congratulations killer!! i know u will won!!
|
lol, most enjoyable zvz ever!
|
:-( ahh, man...CaTz deserved that ...
|
|
|
Nice game from Killer. Catz had both those last two games at a few points but couldn't put his opponent away. Now Killer can avenge his earlier loss to Major!
|
Yeah Killer!!!, he doesnt have too many chance to play outside of online tournaments. so happy for him, hope he gets more chances to play abroad
|
too bad, catz had like 3 chances on the last 2 games to just kill him xD
very good games!
|
Haha! there's killer! please take down major!!
One of the SICKEST GAMES I've ever seen!! Really amazing from both players! I was like a prom queen girl screaming loud :D!
|
grande felipeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! gogogogogog Kill em all!!!!
|
Haven't seen such an entertaining zvz for a loooong time, if ever!
|
Killer vs Major is gonna be SICK
|
I'm glad Killer won, he played well and put on a good show.
As for CatZ, after all that bad mouthing of Koreans being in american tounries and stealing the prizepools, it's funny he can't even place top 2 for the blizzcon invite in a Latin invitational in which he's arguably favourite. No excuses this time eh.
|
I hated that game, i was just angry and screaming at my monitor cuz catz dident do what i wanted him to do! >.< Its so easy when your not playing yourself =P
|
On August 12 2011 06:09 dwillow wrote: :-( ahh, man...CaTz deserved that ...
Yup. Killer didn't deserve his win. It was god's will that he wins, not his hard work or good decision making!
|
killer played really well, congrats on moving on.
|
Nice game, Infestordrops are the real killer in ZvZ. A few days ago i lost to my opponent due he harrased my 3rd and main with infested terrans & FG. Even if you see the unload in time, they burrow and spit those inf. terrans everywhere, kill your hatch or tech. Will try this as well :D
|
Grande felipe!!!! sacando la cara por chile!
|
Is anyone else's stream a slideshow? Hopefully they fix it before the finals start.
|
Does anybody know if their will be any replays available?
|

The european qualifiers had replays and vods available after the event. I think Blizzard will do provide the same service here, too.
|
Yes, after the tournament is over. They usually put it in the bracket with two swords crossing symbols.

Have people actually watched that interview or know what he actually meant? There's absolutely nothing there that you can call "badmouthing" other than the people that make up stuff when they talk about it after hearing what other people have said about it.

OMG awasome game!
Congrat Killer!... now 4-0 major!!.. remember final vs Fenix in brazil !!

I think dKiller has to win two BO3s, while Major only has to win one. That was the ruleset in the EU Invitational at least, and I guess they share the same rules.

My stream keeps resetting itself to a lower quality. My connection can fully handle the 2.2mb stream, and seemed to do so fine yesterday. Anybody know how to keep it on the high quality? :/

Right, it's like MLG's extended series.

no if this was like MLG major would be up 2-0 playing a best of 7.

Have you tried reloading the page and clicking on the 2.2mb option before it can reset to lower quality? I had the same problem and that worked for me.

Yup, basically, if Killer defeats MajOr in the first BO3, then MajOr is knocked down to the loser's bracket, and then they face in the second BO3 on equal terms. *Just felt I had to clarify a little bit, as there was some confusion in the EU thread *

That's right. I was thinking more of the MLG rule when a WB player meets a LB one in the finals and they hadn't played earlier. But in this case, Killer has already lost to Major obviously.

So what am i watching here the mickeymouse qualifier for people with a LA background that get a easy road towards Blizzcon? dont tell me that they have 24K prizepool for this aswell cause ill cry T__T
|
That's not what extended series means. Winning two bo3 is what double elimination entails. The 2-0 advantage is extended series.
|
10k for latin america kinda ridiculous :D

Seriously, 10K for beating those 7 players.. seriously blizzard.... seriously?

The prize pool and distribution for all qualifiers are the same. The North American qualifier players benefits from this (due to the lower quality of players) somewhat as well in comparison to the EU one, albeit not nearly as much so as this one.
|
major uses the strat ive been saying is the future of TvZ forever
mass thors, some tanks, some hellions, attack right when the zerg finishes his 5bases and tier3 tech, the thors destroy roaches and everything because the zerg cannot have enough NP / broodlords / ultras in time.
even if majors push fails, he now is equal on the zerg in bases and can make thor/viking/marauder/hellion to combat ling/bane/infestor/broodlord/ultra

I think it's just fair to distribute equal prizemoney. The other logic would be to hand all the money to the dominant koreans anyway. I hope the prizepools like this encourage more players from every region to get into pro-play and start practising and competing more. By this way the foreign-scene could get more competitive and wouldn't had to cry when "their" players getting kicked out of Code A.

the push hits before the zerg can have 5 bases worth of gas for much of any amount of time
at best, the zerg will have ~1 infestor per thor. thats 1 nueral per thor, not enough considering theres hellions and probably a tank or to to kill the infestors
also the hellions force the zerg to get roaches early, reducing infestor count even more
the fact that major won i could say that proves my point but i see where your getting at. 200food of infestors destroys 200food of thors, the problem is the zerg will be limited on gas and cant have 3 infestors per thor

I don't disagree with the prize pools being the same, but it is very obvious that this was a far lower level of competition overall than the EU qualifiers, and that it's consequently easier to get the same amount of money and the same Blizzcon invite. It's just a pseudo-unfortunate side effect of encouraging competition and make it appear to be the same level of tournament (even if it's not).

Considering Major has beaten Naniwa in tournament play before and Ret said he practiced for the past month with Major, your statement is incorrect. He's as good as any other foreigner at blizzcon.
