Any specific suggestions?

Perhaps you could create a poll on your website/TL/other sites asking your fanbase who'd they want to see?

That's a great idea.
+1

question is location: TL or TB site?
either way, great idea.
1st, 2nd, people's choice, a challenger, +4 others...

^^

The invitational could have the following people invited:

1) 1st place from the previous invitational
2) 2nd place from the previous invitational
3) A player selected by highest donator from the previous invitational
4) A champion from a past invitational
5) A challenger selected from a past invitational
6) Poll: People's Choice
7) Poll: People's Choice
8) Poll: People's Choice

Something along those lines?

This would mean that almost half the lineup is already decided before the tournament starts. People's choices can also result in the same players just being picked over and over for every invitational, as people will probably prefer to see the same player still after one month.
Also, since not all public choices will be available / interested, you'll end up having to explain who what why they don't come, which is all pretty much stuff which doesn't add anything to the tournament and might even impact it in a negative way (zomg people voted for xxx but you no invite??!?).

Having a countdown with an unknown invite being announced in the week before the event adds excitement. As players have to be scheduled a while in advance, having this kind of setup would probably mean all but 1 or 2 players are known almost a month in advance, so taking away a little of the entire buildup.

And there is then also the issue that players will probably be suggested from all possible timezones, which might make things hard.

No saying a peoples choice is entirely a bad idea, but I would keep it limited, either by amount, or by influence on the final decision (more like a poll to see what players people like, and have the organizers chose a few players from that selection if possible.

Not that the suggested players will in the end be much difference of the players that are currently playing ( - korean players, but they have not been in the picture yet for already disclosed reasons). Pretty much all players except the dark horses were very big names tbh.

Yeah, I think I would agree with most of that.
There's no doubt that something would have to be done about the problem of people just picking the same players every time.
Of course one solution would be just to change up the names in the polling every month, but you're right that those sorts of issues are definitely natural to polling using the same pool of players.

I also agree that the element of surprise is fun and that we shouldn't know the majority of players participating before they are announced by TB, so my lineup of 8 players would definitely need to change from what I posted.
I still think it would be cool for the highest donator to play or pick a player to play though, I believe it was something TB suggested during the tournament.

Well done, Sir.

Loved your tournament so much, didn't miss a single minute and I'm already looking forward to SHOUTcraft Invitationals 3 - 10

Keep up the good work!

For shoutcraft 3 I would love to see TB go all out on the 3 idea, $3000 prize pot (this would leave a good reserve for other events!), 3 day tourney (you could do it over the august bank holiday for example!).
The first day could be community nomination tourney for the last paid spot. So a series of best of 3s, maybe have a few community polled / picked players duke it out? or perhaps have some show matches on day 1? TB vs Day9 anyone?
Then continue the rest of the tourney over 2 days exactly as done before.
I think that would lead to a fun and varied contest with great community involvement and an opportuinity for a lesser known wild card player to shine along with the vetted players by TB and his pro team!
I loved watching all the coverage of SCI2 and hope the series continues for a long time and fully intend to donate to the next event!
Thanks

Note: 'Bigger' is a pretty vague adjective and somewhat biased based on each individual. In the above post, I'm assuming 'Bigger' = an adjective for a player that the SC2 community would want to watch compete. At the end of the day, it'd be great to see a $5k capped tourny (like yours) get 50k+ live watchers in a single moment.

So you only want to give the BIGGER names the chance to win these higher prize pools? Personally i would like to see some lesser known mixed with some more known/famous players.

Id rather watch 2x 2500/3500 dollar tourny's then 5000 dollar in 1 go. I think the prize pool for this event was pretty much perfect for a 2 day tourny. Id like to hear TB's opinion of this tho.

I'm thinking 'Bigger' and more fan favorite names would also yield more ad revenue as there would likely be more viewers.

TB was talking about the possibility of inviting one of the top donators, yes?, but this could also be done as a showmatch between the guy/girl and TB, if said person isn't a pro player, which seems likely. Just a thought.

Also, of course TB would have to limit the player pool of the poll that seems fit and works for TB, I agree. Diversity of players are nice too, I agree, and not knowing all of them beforehand.

Would be too exhausting for the casters, I'm pretty sure. For two casters, that is. Also, I'd be slightly less intense for the viewers, imo.

Post-mortem of the event - http://www.cynicalbrit.com/cb-blog/shoutcraft-invitational-2-post-mortem/

First of all: great event, i really enjoyed it, cant wait for the next one

Some Feedback/Ideas:

Invites:
I don't agree with the previous posts, i really liked the line-up! Of course there is always someone missing, but thats just because there are too many awesome players for an 8 spot invitational.

Nominational-Idea:
Not sure what caliber of player you are thinking about.
I think its kind of hard to find players who will create some good games and a decent amount of viewers and on the other hand are "not good enough" to be considered for a regular SCI invite.
Maybe its better to just have some kind of dark horse invite in every SCI.

Korean Invites:
I get the timezone thing, but i think it should be possible to do an EU+Korea and an US+Korea edition instead of an only korea one. Allthough US+Korea might be a bit problematic for the EU viewers and of course the casters if i think about it...

Spending all the money:
I don't think you need to run a second tournament yet. If I unterstand correctly, half of the donations came from 5 people and you can't really expect them to do the same thing again next time.
Without those huge donations at SCI 3 it should be hard enough to get together 5000$ for both SCI 3 and 4.

Other stuff:
Maybe start one hour earlier. I realize there were some delays, but i think even without them it might have gotten a bit late for EU folks.
Alternatively, maybe do it on Friday and Saturday, but that might be bad for US viewers.

I think a quick interview with the winner(overall or even every game) would be cool. Allthough I enjoyed the music between games that might be a better time-filler.

Can't think of anyhing else right now, keep up the good work

some feedback on post-mortem:
-keep the format of 8 players, maybe select one player via qualification (invitational too excluding former attendees)
-do not reach for the max prizepool, maybe go to 3 to 4k (socke got $62.5 per map, i think its quite good for this kind of tournament, the ro8 losers still get at least $20-25 per map)
-start one-two hours earlier, it won't hurt any EU spectators at all (maybe some US) but you have a larger viewership on sunday for the finals
-don't start this on friday, people in EU are more likely to miss both playdays

-absolutely keep the bo5 series and single-elimination (bo5 clearly awards the better player)
-keep the fair prize-split (i think that it encouraged the players alot to show their skill and furthermore there was no real cheese (except one) - nothing against well executed all-ins or cheese play, i like it (the way i learned about flash before he was the master of today)

hm, to much to think about
just do this tournament again, well build hype and you delivered @ totalbiscuit and staff

please excuse poor spelling and grammar... :C

edit: i really like the idea of keeping this corporate free so you are not required to advertise anything, it was a really nice experience

I agree with pretty much everything you say there.
I personally would like it if the tourney starts on friday simply because that means that I dont have to stay up all sunday night and then feel like a freakin zombie at work on monday, However I do belivie it could affect the viewership negatively. This can be resolved simply by starting a couple of hours earlier, as you stated.

Thank you TB and Apollo for an amazing weekend!

I agree with those that suggested that multiple events are not required, save the extra dollars to make certain future tournaments have healthy prize pools.

However, if you insist on adding an event to the schedule, I'd like to see something along the lines of the suggested Team League Invitational, or perhaps more realistically, a clan war. I think it'd be pretty fantastic to see Dignitas vs. Mouz or something similar.
