I feel sorry for Ret. Yea, not Puma's fault at all, he's playing awesome, but the league championship should have been closed to league members only. Otherwise there's not much incentive to be in the league. First off, Ret would have had to beat him, or a very good player at some point. With how Ret played there were probably only 4-5 players he was going to beat out of the 16 so if it wasn't out in the first round it would have been the 2nd. Also, in the league you are competing for 15 possible spots. Not in the league you are trying to fight through a massive talented open bracket that is single elimination for 1 spot. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that you'd want to be in the league, not to mention the notoriety of having weekly matches broadcast which makes sponsors happy and helps grow your name and brand. Bah, shouldn't have even responded to comments. Either you aren't thinking through anything, or I'm getting trolled. Either way wasn't worth the time. it sets a bad precedent though if puma wins then other pros will be like oh well i'm not going to waste my time playing in the league i'll just play in the open and if i can beat everyone in that, then i'll be unstoppable in the tournament you have to understand there's a finite number of hours in the day, and NASL is a huge time-sink for no potential reward, time that could better be spent streaming or playing in smaller cups Actually that is a horrible way to think of it and NO pro would think that way. The NASL isn't a time sink, it is 1 day a week and a BO3. You are WAY better off playing in the NASL, for a chance at 50k, plus publicity which will grow your streams, brands, lessons for players, etc. than winning a bunch of 100-500 dollar cups. Just being on the NASL and seen, getting interviewed, hyped each week, etc. that is all a big deal. I think if you asked all the NASL players if they benefited from being in the league, even the ones that didn't win much, they'd all say def. I bet if you asked them, "Hey you can play in the league again, OR try to win a single elimination open bracket full of Koreans and other top gamers, which would you like to do?" Seriously, read through what you actually wrote, It doesn't set a bad precedent at all. If anything it might have players who think they are better than Puma try to get into the league, so they would have an easier shot at securing 1 of those 15 spots and win the whole thing. And just because you win the open doesn't mean you'll be unstoppable at an event that has some of the best talent in the world. He just happens to be playing really well. it is a huge time sink for the top players like mc and naniwa. those people get invited to all the best tournies anyways and they have to wake up at odd times and play with latency (a huge disadvantage that becomes apparent when even class A koreans dominate lans) Id say nasl is great for not so well known players because they get to expose themselves but itd be foolish to not see how it could be annoyingly long for some people. It's a few hours ONE day a week for players that spend a ridiculous amount of time practicing the game anyway. The total time invested in the league for the benefits ... people just think of it to black and white. Gaining fans, popularity, etc. it all adds to your personal value. It is well worth a few hours one day a week. That isn't a time sink, learn what a time sink is. Go talk to MMO players, they know all about time sinks. I think a problem is that a majority of the revenues made by the NASL are through the weekly matches and through the quality of those matches (given that there are so many) - for a person to win simply by winning a side tournament (which admittedly is a great achievement) sort of throws the tournament off balance. Not really, it was advertised and documented that there would be 1 open bracket spot. So if you chose to get into the league, you can fight for 15 spots. There was a chance for anyone that didn't get into the league to fight through an open bracket. MLG does this in a modified way basically with their new format. GSL is offering the SAME thing with their Code S/Code A exchange program that people have NO problem with. Would there be the same outrage if someone were to win MLG, get placed directly into Code S, and then won it? It is basically in place to allow players that didn't make the 50 man league a chance to get in. It is a loophole so that if they can't get all 50 players they want, or we all want, they still have a chance to win it and that makes things interesting and exciting. It is a cool story if Puma wins coming from the Open bracket like that. It doesn't devalue the league play which got us 15 incredible players in a tournament. At this point, it doesn't matter really how the 16 players got here, it is just about who comes out on top regardless. it's more than just 1 bo3 a week, it's 1 bo3 a week that's notoriously inflexible
dreamhack? walkover, no reschedule korean vs korean playing? still have to play at 4 am
esssentially any small tournament taking place during your division is completely locked down
if one of the NASL players were to be in the GSL Code S finals, would they allow a rescheduling of that match? precedent says they would not, given how they've treated people who got stuck on delayed flights from attending other tournaments before
they were actually so arrogant that they expected the NASL players attending MLG to play their matches out at MLG on their computers, and i'm glad that MLG refused to allow any of the NASL players to do it
