We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum.

Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service.

Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out.

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's the direct results of having only Koreans left. There was so much backstory behind IdrA/MC that it grasped everyone's attention. Losira and MMA just doesn't have that animosity between them, or else it would be a lot different.

But having no foreigners remaining definitely won't help the cause.

Even before the Idra match, during the Naniwa of earlier matches. This thread was moving much much faster.

I know for me personally the level of interest just dropped off, it honestly makes me no difference at all who wins now, because these players mean nothing to me.

THEN DON'T WATCH.

I think you're missing the part of capitalism where numbers of audience members equates to the amount of bankroll you have.
For that part, this guy SHOULD share his opinion, as people need to know it.
What sort of progress would ANY sport/event/group/workplace/team etc have if the answer was always
"DON'T LIKE IT? WELL SHUSH!"

What kind of progress will happen in the West if you just disallow Koreans? You know how weak that would make the rest of the world seem?

THERE WERE FIVE KOREANS IN THIS TOURNAMENT. JUST FIVE. It isn't like GSL sent out all 32 Code S players to overrun the tournament. The five Koreans came and they played their best. MC, a Korean, has been the person who has interacted with the crowd the most out of any players.

Don't understand why Artosis keeps thinking Losira will win. Losira's ZvT is shit. He won game 1 on a gimmick, please Artosis, try to recall all of Losiras games in the GSL.

Are you serious? G2 was a good game. MMA played very well and pushed out when he sniped essential tech.

yes.. random koreans. they are random. july, mma, MC, and losira are random koreans. truly random.

gtfo

Since I don't watch Korean SC2 in the middle of the night I have never heard of any of them. They don't stream, they don't do twitter, they are never on any of the SC2 shows, western viewers have no attachment to these players.

That must be why the MLG crowd is cheering for them like crazy.

This. Same for me I was so pumped about the Nani match then he got 2-0'd so fast, Idra threw 3 games away. The last game didnt matter to me coz i knew he will lose ;(

Just don't like the "Koreans own white dudes" to be the truth

Then white dudes should just try harder no?

lol

i'll explain my post for your simple mind

by "i can't believe this" i was referring to how i couldn't believe beyonder thought the winner would go to code s, which has been refuted many, many, MANY times in this thread.

don't worry, i forgive you for misunderstanding

on topic: mma gonna take this so easily

can't really prepare for matches so a lot of mistakes will occur

MLG format favors the most solid player instead of having a player be able to prepare special builds for a match

So idra gets into code A now right? will he go or say that korea is unbalanced? I don't think he's the type to go back to the major leagues and would rather stay in the minors and dominate the lower talent.

Idra already said he won't go to Korea, not for code A nor code S. In Korea you basically only play the GSL while there's a lot more oppurtunities in the US and Europe

Yea i wouldn't want to play in the NFL and play for $50,000 when i can dominate the CFL and win the $250 prize pools. The only prize pools worth anything in the US are the MLG overall championship and blizzcon and the koreans will come to win those.

Thats the problem with the north american players, they want to settle for lesser leagues because becoming the best takes too much work.

I think idra doesnt want to go back to korea because he got run out the first time because of his attitude is my guess.

He didn't get run out -.-.. He said the scene is easier to succeed here instead of playing in one hard tournament.

Between NASL, IEM, Dreamhack, and MLG, the prize pool for foreign events is bigger than that of the GSL. Korea has their own smaller tournaments, I realize, but I believe the two scenes are pretty equal in terms of prize pool, and the foreign scene is much easier. It makes a lot more sense to stay in the US, where you were _born_, than to live in a foreign country where you'll probably end up making less money.

Foreigners can say goodbye to easy money. If koreans start invading western lans foreigners are gonna be bankrupt soon.

or learn to be better gamer...

Won't happen, if Koreans start coming to major western tournaments then western e-sports will die. They will just dominate everything, the scene will get stagnant and boring, and that will be it.

You're making it too obvious now.

I think you are giving him too much credit now.

Yes clearly the huge crowd of americans that have spent all weekend cheering for the most talented players (the koreans) dislike talent and are just confused. Maybe you should give them the memo?

Has anyone calculated what happens with the top 16 spots yet? Now that all the non-Koreans are gone it should be possible, right?

Mainly want to know if anyone lost their status and who the 'new' top-16 players are?

These are NOT the rankings, but going down the list the Top 16 would be:
Idra
Naniwa
Slush
Ret
Fenix
Haypro
Thorzain
Sjow
Machine
Major
Sheth
Cruncher
Tyler
Select
KawaiiRice

And someone would have to play for the last spot. This is assuming none of the Koreans including July keep their spot.

I think we can take some conclusions from MLG now:

1.- Koreans are the better SC2 players: All koreans (except for moon) performed very well on pool play, while dealing with jetlag. Koreans in the championship bracket were only eliminated by koreans. Top 3 is all-korean. I think it's proof enough, even if I think the foreigner pool could be a bit stronger, I don't think the results would be too different.

2.- Nani is best foreigner protoss, hands down. Idra's position as best foreigner zerg is kinda doubtful, you can't be the best with that terrible mindset.

3.- Thorzain is a great player and TSL3 wasn't a fluke at all. Sheth shows TONS of promise, as do Major and ViBe, for the foreigner scene.

4.- Koreans are better showmakers as far as gaming stuff go. This whole "MC SO BM" thing is ridiculous, he's putting up a show. This is why MC's "BM" is different from idra's. He uses it to entertain the crowd, not to randomly dish shit like Idra does all the time. We could see how MC actually feels about his opponents. He very respectfully hand shook with nani and moon, and probably T-zain as well.

5.- Tastosis is funnier that Day/WHEAT, but the latter can make games a little more exciting.

6.- This was, all in all, a GREAT EVENT. Props to MLG for surviving the Dallas disaster and becoming a lot better. Really, congratulations, you've shown balls.

After this I'm completely convinced that Thorzain, Nani, and Idra are the best foreigners of their races. What other foreigner could have achieved Idra's results? Sheth? Sen? Morrow? Sheth and Morrow tried, and I don't think Sen is on Idra's level.

I would be very careful about talking in absolutes like that. There are some very good player missing at this tourney. Sen and Dimaga are both very close to Idra's level and neither suffer from the mental block that seems to meet Idra when he's faced with the best competition available.
What about WhiteRa? Or Strelok? I wouldn't say the are definitly worse than Naniwa and Thorzain.

The Starswar also showed that there is a lot of awesome chinese players that are mostly unknown in the westerns community.

Of all the foreigners in MLG, Thorzain impresses the most. He has the will to keep playing even when he's behind, even when everything is against him. And he took MC down two games while playing from behind, compared to IdrA's 0-4 when ahead. I think Thorzain is the best foreigner player this MLG, and it's only because players like Socke, Kas, and White-Ra are not here that I'm not declaring Thorzain the best foreigner player.

QFT

Although I think Naniwa is good but PvP is an unforgiving matchup
I root for Euro Zergs, NA Protoss* and Korean Terrans. (Any North American who has beat a Korean Pro as Protoss counts as NA Toss)
