There are other units instead of banelings. Kyrix vs. TheWind:
+ Show Spoiler +First match: Let's feel each other out, get late speed and then at 22 food, build banelings.
Second match: TheWind all-in's, loljk turn those drones around, build banelings.
Third match: HATCH FIRST! Maybe gonna see roach infestor? Both players go macro mode, interesting with a few Zergling pokes, and then build banelings.
My ZvZ's are never that stupid. Fast roaches to beat banelings are much more stable and forgiving, I don't know why those players (neither of which had very good control) didn't go roaches :/

Kyrix got a huge break. His ZvZ is usually very solid and his ling/bling micro is fantastic. But it was visible and obvious that he was tilting hard after the first loss (game 1 v Violet) and completely lost tempo.
I hope (wish) Kyrix takes his games more seriously. I like his play alot (when he's doing well) but I get the impression that he doesn't have too big of an ambition. It's like he simply plays every matches with "whatever" mindset. Too bad because I think he's got a huge potential.
Anyhow, today's ZvZs were worse than the average PvP except maybe Violet's nice deception strat in game 1. Fast and furious, sure, but verrrrrrrry messy and full of mistakes from the players.

more playing = less coaching
more coaching = less playing
example: he had the better build order in his last round vs kyrix but his baneling/speedlings micro fails bc.... he doesnt practice as much as others
