I really don't want to get into this whole 'how good is inc' argument, but there's no doubt that his group was weaker than the others, especially A and B. PU and Slush are both good, but not in the top tier of foreigners. TLO's been slumping hard for a pretty long while now. I don't know much about mihai tbh, but I doubt anyone would consider him a top foreigner either. They're all good, certainly and going 4-1 in this group's a great result (and better than I expected for inc), but if he wants to really prove himself, he'll have to put up a good showing against Select and the other players he'll be playing today.
I don't blame Incontrol for doing well but, the format is a joke. He played LITERALLY 4 matches(winning 3 and losing 1) and is guaranteed Top 6 even if he loses his next 2 series. In what tournament does that happen that isn't an invitational?!? He practiced hard and took advantage of the situation he was in. He should tank his lucky stars that Huk and Jinro and whoever else that was seeded initially in Top 16 didn't guarantee coming to Dallas or not Incontrol would've had to slave through the Open Tournament.
I'm glad he did well and stepped up when he finally had to win the games put in front of him. Big guy finally showed up.

Yeah I agree entirely but first impressions are really hard to overcome and in most people's eyes, Inc is a second rate player and it's going to be really hard for him to overcome that. We all know Incontrol is not a noob. But he's definitely not a top player either, he's there in the lot, with some potential if he practices and dedicates himself to tournament play. Top 16 in MLG is "good" it's not "awesome" or "great" by any standards, particularly considering there aren't THAT many strong players in MLG. He played a nice pool phase, and that's solid, nobody's taking that from him.
And don't compare Incontrol to day9. We love day9 not because he was a great BW player, it's mainly because of his charisma. Plus, as a coach, he totally owns incontrol, having coached thousands of unknown scrubs from bronze to whatever better leagues. For free. While being hilarious doing it.

And no one cares about Broodwar archievements in this discussion. He never made top 3 in WCG anyway I don't know where you got that from. As for the coaching thing. Incontrol is a great guy and I think from what I've heard from him that he has a really good understanding of the game. That and being able to teach makes one a great coach. Actual ability isn't that important. Bill Walsh or Scotty Bowman weren't particular impressive as players IIRC.

iNcontroL has top 16'd (OUT OF HUNDREDS OF PLAYERS) the events he has gone to. He doesn't play in small tournaments. Why? He makes more money coaching. Most American players (cept the Liquid Boys) cannot afford to travel. MLG are the ONLY big tournaments besides IEM once a year. What is he supposed to do, create his own tournament and then do really well (wait a second...)?
LiquidTyler has as few results. People aren't blindly hating him. Haypro has as few results. No blind hate. When was the last time Machine, Antec, or Drewbie won anything? Wait so Group D is about equal to group C in power level? Yet people aren't flaming Naniwa for beating an unimpressive group (I am all about Nani going 24-0).
