MATCHES HAVE RESUMED... We have resolved our connectivity/power issues. Live streaming matches will follow later possibly after the lunch break at 4:30-5:30 (CST)
Thank you for your patience!
RTS
Since the event has been taken down from the on-air stream I figured I'd post a quick post describing whats happening right now.
Whats happening
We've got serious connectivity issues. We've contacted battlenet and apparently the issues are coming from our end. We are in the process of contacting the ISP.
In the meantime we are trying to ration our log ins in order to get as many people playing as possible but something like 80% of our players can't log in and we would prefer to let people play the games on their own personal computers.
The possibility of streaming these games right now is fairly low due to the connectivity. We're going to try to cast replays at some point in the future.
Looking around, right now we have something like 40-50 people watching TSL and chatting about how awesome Tyler and/or thorzain are.
I'll post an update once we resolve our connectivity.
OP
I would like to welcome all gamers to come to the first event hosted by our group. Hopefully the first of many:
Twin Cites Open Starcraft 2 1v1 Tournament 12pm-12am (CST) Saturday April 9th @ Lan World Gaming
2645 White Bear Ave N # 3 Saint Paul, MN 55109-1317 lanworldgaming.com Google Map
*You will need to sign up by 12pm on location the day of the event. Registration is 10$*
We will be having over 150$ in prizes with possible additional prizes and a raffle at the end. (the more people that come the larger prize pool we can get!) Also we will be having free pizza too so it will be a great day for starcraft, friends, food, and fun.
Routinetrafficstop, Siraz, and MikeyR will be casting and we will also give a few up start casters a chance to call a few matches (after all we will have 10+ hours of live casting) We will be streaming the tournament live on SirazTV We will be casting from the start (near noon) to the end of the day (near midnight)
We encourage participants to bring their own computers, however we will rent 2 computers on location for some players that had mentioned they were flying in, or driving long distances can use them. We can rent additional computers on location for the whole day for 20$ so if you don't want to bring your computer you can rent one for the day with 8 being the total available. You also can bring your own peripherals too for the rented computers. PM me if you have any questions.
The map pool will include some of the old some of the new and a few GSL maps: Xel'Naga Caverns, Shakuras Plateau, Metalopolis, The Shattered Temple, Backwater Gulch, Typhon Peaks, Terminous RE, Crevasse, and Tal'Darim Altar.
The player has the choice to exclude 2 maps to from the pool for their duration of the tournament.
Format will be group stage round robin for the first round (top two players advance to winners bracket bottom two head to the consolation bracket) This will ensure everyone gets to play at least 3 games in the tournament.
From then on in the winners bracket its double elimination (if you loose you drop to the losers bracket) The consolation bracket single elimination.
Every round will be best of 3 until the grand final which will be best of 5
There is plenty of seating on location we can accommodate many people and we will be using the projector on site to display the featured matches so if you have some down time you can gather round and check out the cast!
Hope to see many of you there, or we hope that you tune in and check out many of the great players in the Twin Cities area! Thank you!
Routinetrafficstop
PM me with any questions you may have or if you would like a copy of the official flyer to hand out at your college/school or place of work.
**NOTE to answer some good questions that have been asked:
In addition to your cpu, bring a monitor, your keyboard/mouse, and if possible a ethernet cable... we will have a few extra ethernet cables if you do not have one (but only 5 or so). Also you can use one of LWG's computers for 20$ I'm trying to negotiate that down to 15 for our players that have to travel a long distance. (LWG's computers are very nice flat screen monitors, headsets, microsoft keyboard/optical mouse, and he has 4 licenses for sc2 that can be used in case for some reason you dont have your own account XD )
Also cash is the preferred method of payment for registration, and as long as you are at the location by noon that is fine we can get you registered soon after. You can come as early as 11am if you wish to get set up early, help us set up, or meet the casters/relax and play a few warm up games if possible.**
*Another Note*
I'm suggesting a 5$ donation for non-participants however its a free will donation (donate a dollar or 2 if you can but its not required to come and watch the events) this is for pizza and drinks that I am paying out of pocket for the group so if we have too many people/spectators I wont be able to afford pizza/drinks for everyone because i'm paying out of my pocket.
I would rather have more people without being able to afford pizza for everyone THAN less people come and pizza for everybody if you catch my drift lol
*Yet another note*
If anyone has a prize/cash they want to donate to the prize pool let me know. Someone had mentioned that they work for best buy and they may give a gift card. If anyone can get prizes like this for a raffle at the end we will give the donating party shout outs on the live stream for their support of e-sports!
|
Just a note for people who have an interest in giving casting a try, we will be letting a few people the opportunity to cast live games!
RTS

I'm going! This is gonna be a blast!
|
HELL YES i will be there
|
i would like to go but i would need a ride. so if someone wouldn't mind picking me up just 10 min out side St.Paul to the east. send me a pm if you wouldn't mind helping me out. Also it looks fun good job setting this up so fast.
|
Is this open to anybody, even us lowly bronze leaguers. Are they going to posting this on Lan World's web site as well. I don't see it posted there yet. How many people are you expecting and how much room is there going to be?
Thanks
|
The tournement is open to everyone. I know we were talking about two brackets, one for < diamond and one for diamond +, but I think we decided ultimately to just do group play. Everyone should get to play a couple matches in the tournament, there isn't single elimination at the lower levels.
And theres free pizza! :D
|
oh man! I am driving down from duluth to visit some friends on the 8th. This sounds fun. But how long is this gonna last? I would love to participate but I don't want to ditch my friends for the rest of the day too, ya know?
|
Probably something like noon till late at night, two am or so. I think those are the times we were talking about. If you want to compete I think you'll want to be there earlier rather than later, but if you just want to stop by and play some CS or games with people already eliminated, you should stop by!
|
The flyer should be posted on lan worlds website soon i emailed him our flyer last night
Also I can pick up a few people in the twin cities area... as long as you don't mind coming early to help me set up a few things (11am)
(Shoot me a PM if you live in the northern suburbs or close to Minneapolis/St. Paul and need a ride... I'll be able to pick up a max of 4 people to bring to the event and we will have to make it to the event by 11am so I can set up - I will accept donations for gas money however its not required for me to pick you up XD)
|
Good news! We have been approved to be put on the events calendar! Hopefully we can get a few spill over viewers from events after they wrap up and our event begins to heat up!
Exciting stuff
Also if anyone has any contacts with CSL groups and college gaming groups in the area i.e. Duluth, St. Cloud, Mankato, St. Thomas, etc feel free to invite them to the event!
Hope to see many of you there!

I wish, thats where I go. There's a small crew of like, 8 or so kids who play but thats all I know of. Almost everybody is subdiamond here.
|
Definitely will try to make it.
|
A question for people... does anyone have a hearing protectors for guns/yard work... so the featured match players can wear earbuds and the hearing protection so they dont hear the casters? We only need 2 pairs... let me know if you can lend them for the tournament for the day!
Thanks!
RTS
|
I am sure people from the U of M csl team will be down there!
|
I'm interested in casting the replays, where could I get those when the tournament starts?
|
yeah I sent an invite to the 2 U of M gaming groups... also st cloud, duluth, and mankato. I hope to see a few of teh pwn gaming club peeps there! Fingers crossed we get 60 people and we will be able to give out a small prize for the top finishing bronze-gold people too (if there are any participating which i believe their may be a couple)
NerdCRAFT i'll be sure to save the replays and create a replay pack for those who wish to view it who couldn't make it to the event or those who want to see the games that we covered in the event, maybe add a few others that people save after they play them (meaning replays beyond the featured games we cast)
if you come to the event there may be a chance for you to cast a game or too as well (if you live in the area)
I'm sure getting pumped for the event!
A little side note... i think that TL's calendar is on Korean time? So our event is listed on Sunday for the stream purpose etc... HOWEVER THE EVENT IS ON SATURDAY APRIL 9TH at 12:00 (CST) please don't confuse the actual time with the time it is listed on the calendar...
Have a good one guys!

Me and my friend are pretty low level in the game and doubt we would enter the tournament, but we would love to come and watch some matches and stay for a while to get the feel of a lan event (this would be our first). We were wondering if it would be ok with you if we did not sign up for the tournament and just stayed and watched or maybe tried casting or something.
|
Holy shit that location is far from Uptown MPLS (where I live)... damn I would love to come to a good SC2 Tourny but I don't know if I want to drive (google maps real quick...) 26 minutes... wait that isn't so bad.
Well consider my considering it ;p
Any guesses at the number of players that have show interest?
|
I think I am very interested in this ^^ I especially like the option that I can rent out a machine and just bring my peripherals rather then hauling everything out there for a day. Count me in! Also might be interested in casting some of the matches, I've ran a few top 200ish koths in the past for fun
|
COSMOSX: Sure you are welcome to come!
I would rather have more people without being able to afford pizza for everyone THAN less people and pizza for everybody if you catch my drift lol
Also we may be giving a small prize for the top finishing bronze-gold players if we have enough people enter.
When we have some down time/casters have a match to play in I'll let a few people cast with me so we will probably have the chance for you and your friend cosmos to cast a game or so
Hope to see you there!
RTS
|
So far it looks like we will have at least 30 people and possible to have in upwards of 60! Looks like I'll have to set a limit to the amount of pizza's I will buy... The most I'll be able to spend on Pizza and drinks will be 80$ So I'll get as much as I can with that 80$ and if we need more we can take a small pass the hat style donation if we want more pizza
|
Cool, we will probably still pay the $10 to support the lan, and we will try our best to be there.
|
Ok thank you for doing that, and I might be down in the cities for the event so I hope I can cast a game or two.
|
If anyone has a prize/cash they want to donate to the prize pool let me know. Someone had mentioned that they work for best buy and they may give a gift card. If anyone can get prizes like this for a raffle at the end we will give the donating party shout outs on the live stream for their support of e-sports!
Also... I wanted to let people know I have room in my vehicle to pick a few people up who may need a ride in the twin cities area... However I need a pm by Friday to confirm it otherwise I wont pick you up (first 3 to ask I can give a ride).
NerdCRAFT: hope to see you at the event :-D
Thanks!

Can we register online? Or do we have to register in person the day of the event?
|
Registration is 10$ cash in person on the day of the event, just make it to the venue between 11-12.
If you want to get set up early/registered early just show up closer to 11am than noon....
depending on how this event goes we may add online registration as an option for the next event.

|
I can't get work off otherwise I'd be there for sure. Hopefully there are more events in the cities in the future.
|
Brutal, will hopefully see you doods there!
And I guess one of my questions about preregistration was answered, but if we do get there at least by noon we are guaranteed a spot right?
|
yep just make sure your there by noon and your guaranteed a spot!

are 1 of the two computers that you guys are renting still available? my setup is really goofy and it would be the biggest pain to bring it there. Message me back ASSSSAAAAP! Thankyou.

Too bad there wasn't more notice on this, I might have made the trip. Oh well, I'll be in the twin cities for the UofM Tournament in a couple weeks.

I'm sure we can work it out so that when its your turn to play in the tournament one of the computers is open.
|
I would definitely prefer to rent out a computer for 20$, can I do that in advance? If not then I run the risk of not bringing my system out and then not having a computer to play on haha.
|
Alright, and do i need to bring my own monitor if i use one of their computers?
|
In addition to your cpu, bring a monitor, your keyboard/mouse, and if possible a ethernet cable...
Do I also need to bring my case, motherboard, power supply, etc... or just my CPU?
|
Today is the 7th, tomorrow is the 8th, and the 9th comes after that! YEAAAAAAA!
This should be fun!
|
I hereby pledge $50 toward this event. Whether that should go into the prize pool or toward a little compensation for the casters -- or whatever -- I'll leave up to RTS' discretion.
If you'd like some/part of that money to be converted to a gift card(s) for the sake of raffling off, just PM me or reply here; I'll check the thread again before Saturday morning. Anyway, otherwise I'll just bring cash.
I have a birthday party to attend later on Saturday night, but I look forward to enjoying about half of the tournament before that. I'm just going to be an observer/fanboy Can always watch VODs of TSL3 later!

Prolix:
Thank you so much for your generosity! I'll send you an e-mail I supposed 50$ cash would be best and then I can ask the other organizers for suggestions on how to disburse it! I think that we may do like 2 25$ gift cards or if we get another 10$ maybe we can give 20$ to each of the top finishing bronze/silver/gold finishers? Otherwise if we don't have any bronze/silver participants we may just stick with the raffle idea. I'll run it by the guys and PM ya. Again thanks!
You rock!

I didn't see this thread till just now so it's too late of notice for me to come. It would be awesome if you had some sort of mailing list to let people know when the next event is.
|
We will be setting up a mailing list from this event... however if you are unable to come to this event and want to be informed about upcoming events PM me your email and i'll put you on the list to be updated about upcoming events!
have a good one
PS here are the specs of the PC's available for rent:
Intel I5 -750 4-GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 5750 w/ 1 GB RAM 500 GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD Viewsonic 17" LCD
PPS oh yes and anyone who has some downtime during the event: Nush brought up the idea to play some counterstrike since we can set up a LAN with our comps to play with each other instead of slowing down the line by playing online games. Thats an excellent idea!
|
Just to clarify I am personally renting 2 of the computers for our featured matches. This is due to the fact we need the computers facing away from the projector so the players cannot see what the other is doing on the projection and then the players are also separated by a wall (each computer has its own cubicle). I want to make clear that they are not for people to use as their own computer for the event. I did say however if you are flying in or driving a long distance that we can figgure something out but these are special circumstances and you do need to contact me and not assume there will be a computer available for you. We may have an extra computer and I emphasize "may" for emergency purposes. Also if your computer was to crash we may be able to accommodate you so you can get your matches in. I just dont want to be making promises that I cannot keep. Also we have at least 2 of the remaining 6 computers available for rent. If we end up renting all eight i'll try to get a price drop to 15$ for each computer, but I cannot make any promises its up to the owner. I hope this clears up any confusion about the 2 computers I'm renting myself for the event.
If you want to rent a computer for you or your friends please PM me.
Again i'm sorry if there was any confusion about this! If you absolutely cannot afford the 20$ for renting a computer, and you do not have a computer of your own. You need to PM me so we can make arrangements for you.
Just PM me if you cannot afford nor bring your own computer let me know of your circumstances and we will make it work.
Thanks,
RTS
On a side note the owner of lan world informed me he upgraded his line! So fingers crossed we will have a low lag day! :-D
|
there are only 2 computers for rent left. If those go I will give up my 2 reserved computers if needed for others to purchase them for 20$ If necessary we wont put the event up on the projector I would rather make sure everyone can play and get their matches in over having a reserved spot for the featured match players to play away from the projector.
Remember please PM me if you want to rent one of the computers that remain, or if you need to speak to me about not having your own computer/being able to afford to rent one.
thanks!

There are a fuckload of people here right now and we're having some severe connectivity issues... we think so many people (40+) connecting through the same IP is confusing the hell out of blizzard. We have a nice line too, IDK what the problem is.

Again thanks to everyone who pitched in for pizza and prizes!
I'll be in touch with all of you about when our next event will be (hopefully soon)
I'm thinking sometime bear the end of may/beginning of June (after school gets out)
We may need to have online registration for the next event and we will have to cap our participants at about 50 or so.
We are looking for venues that can hold 64-128 participants for our large event. So if you know of any hotels/convention centers that may work for this capacity shoot me a message. The large LAN we are planning to hold sometime in late July/August.
Talk to yall soon!
