If people would start using the date tags, this wouldn't be a problem. People select their time zone in the profile and the computer does the rest of the work automagically.

It's a shame how bad MLG caters to those who won't be able to watch it live. Instead of listing structured VODS like the GSL, they will have a looping broadcast until the next days broadcast. If you've purchased a HD Pass you'll be able to rewind an hour but thats it. And if you miss the day, you won't be able to see the games for weeks!

I remember Sundance saying three things:
1) that he found Octoshape a pain in the ass too
2) having said which, they've been able to do a lot more work on their implementation of the software since last season
3) if you want to pay for him to take a satellite truck to MLG so that he can have guaranteed upload bandwidth and get rid of Octoshape, you'd be more than welcome to!
That's just my recollection though. I thought it was Friday this Tuesday, so add a pinch of salt.

He said if one person can tell them of a way to stream to that many people without needing octoshape and provide better results, to come and talk to him.
I'm assuming this didn't happen.
Octoshape isn't bad, its just bad for some people which is lame. But you have to understand that it still does its job perfectly fine for the majority that it works for.

I do remember him saying that they will be using a newer version of Octoshape. The one they were using last time was two years outdated apparently.

Indeed I never had a problem with octoshape.
But of course it is always better if it can be done without it.

Octoshape works great for me, It's just too bad that some people are having issues.
Last year I watched whole MLG with it and there wasn't a single problem.
This will be fantastic weekend, enjoy everyone !

MLG plays hundreds of matches throughout the weekened, GSL plays a few specific scheduled matches daily. They can put their vods up quicker...
MLG is putting them up, it will just take longer. They said they are putting the more important ones up first.

I would wait till the stream goes live and decide for yourself. When you first tune in, you will get 10-15 seconds of free HD and then a return to normal. If you feel like the difference is worth it, then go for it!
However, in the past, the biggest improvement to quality from the HD is the out-of-game quality rather than the in-game quality. But things might have changed since they have a lot of new hardware to play with.

I've also never had a problem with Octoshape in any of the MLG events that I've seen, but no matter how great the tournament is there will always be some people complaining about the smallest things.
Anyway, this is going to be awesome, I'm ready to watch some baller ass games.
