I loled at this for some reason
Not announced yet even though the league is starting in like 7 days.
anyways, hope the time between the Idra vs Jinro show match to prepare for 4/5 has been well spent.
|
Wooooo!! So pumped for the NASL! TLO fighting!!
|
I cant even decide which group I want to see the most
|
I predict: Division 1: Kiwi, TLO Division 2: White-ra, July Division 3: Squirtle, Nada Division 4: MC, HasuObs Division 5: Sen, Idra
All Divisions: lots of GGs
|
Nice, thanks for the r&s, like the charts
|
My predictions:
Rainbow, Morrow WhiteRa, July Naniwa, Nada MC, Ace Tyler, Sen
|
My predictions: Division 1: Artosis, Morrow Division 2: Ensnare, July Division 3: Axslav, Naniwa Division 4: MC, Select Division 5: Tyler, Idra
|
question: Is there going to be a liquid bet for NASL? that would be cool
Prediction:
Division 1 - Moon - Grubby
Division 2 - July - White-Ra
Division 3 - NaDa - Axslav
Division 4 - MC - SeleCT
Division 5 - IdrA - Tyler
I might be way off, or not. Either way its going to be exciting.
|
Division 1 is the most unpredictable batch of players ever.

In TLO's MLG interview he said he was gonna be terran.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=206567
NASL is only few weeks after MLG so I would expect him to play terran in NASL as well.
Prediction:
Division 1 - TLO - Kiwikaki
Division 2 - July - Sjow
Division 3 - Squirtle - NaDa
Division 4 - MC - Ace
Division 5 - IdrA - BoxeR
|
I really like the lay out of your charts, should make it very easy to tell who won over who.
|
Prediction:
Division 1 - Moon-Artosis
Division 2 - July - White-Ra
Division 3 - Squirtle - Axslav
Division 4 - MC - SeleCT
Division 5 - Painuser- Tyler
They are going to have to release schedules and a full featured website in the next couple days.
|
WhiteRa to win it.
You saw it here first.
HYPE HYPE HYPE I can't wait for this to start!
|
Going with:
1. TLO, Rainbow 2. July, qxc 3. Nada, Moonglade 4. MC, Select 5. Cloud, Idra
|
1-kiwi,morrow 2-cruncher,july 3-nada,squirtle(maybe naniwa) 4-mc,ret 5-zenio,boxer
|
games start on the 5th of April already? wow alot quicker then I expected
|
gaawwwdamn I can't wait for this to start. It's a great time to be a starcraft fan with GSL,TSL,MLG going on and NASL getting ready to kick off. Good times.
edit: my picks
1: Kiwi, raindbow 2: TT1, QXC 3: Naniwa, Squirtle 4: Ret, MC 5: Sen, Tyler
|
|
Ouch for Artosis. That's a pretty tough group.
Looks like Tyler got a pretty good group, though (or at least about as good as you can get in something like this). I think he can make it out with IdrA if they're both well prepared (which, let's be honest, they always are). I don't think BoxeR will make it out. In fact, I don't even think he will come close, unfortunately (and the TSL3 BoxeR drawing is even one of my wallpapers! I love the guy!).
|
Your player counts for Z/T/P are wrong, they only add to 40. There's 16 Z, 17 T, 16 P, 1 R.

Kind of wondering when they plan on releasing the map pool/map rules for this league since that's always a huge point of contention especially since we don't have a "standard" set of maps per say that go across every single event... Guess we'll find out soon!

That's a lot of good games.
|
I'm excited for this tourney.
Lets hype it up.
|
All I'm missing is a site to buy the season ticket from :D
|
My predictions:
Group 1: Morrow and Rainbow Group 2: July and Ensnare Group 3: Squirtle and Nada Group 4: MC and Ret Group 5: IdrA and Boxer
My heart picks IdrA but my brain picks MC to win it all.
|
Such a nice lineup. Very glad they took in Grubby and Artosis even though they have not proven themselfs. And ofcourse July and MC. Will probably pay for HQ if its not too much.
|
I thought TLO is Terran now just like he will be at MLG? Anyways I'm excited about this, foreigners are doing well in TSL so NASL shouldn't be different.

Top 2 from each division advance
The next 20 players (11-20) play another bracket to decide 5 more spots
The 16th spot goes to Open Tournament winner (in which none of the 50 players above can take part)
My picks:
Group 1: Rainbow and TLO Group 2: Qxc and July Group 3: Nada and Strelok Group 4: MC and Ace Group 5: Zenio and Tyler
|
I'm pretty certain I saw that TLO said he was going to main Terran for this tournament?
|
Motbob the hero yet again!
|
Motbob, I love your R&S threads <3
I miss the race taglines, Victory after Victory!!!!
|
1 : Moon - Grubby (WC3 represent) 2 : Ensnare - July (Korean own white dudes) 3 : Squirtle - Naniwa 4 : MC - Ace 5 : Tyle - Idra (chillin' )
|
Opening date has been moved back from the 5th to the 11th. Should be updated!
|
Oh wow, great work with the spoilers, that will really make quick work at finding who beat who. Very eager for this to start!
|
Group 5 is gonna be amazing, I could see Sen, Idra, Cloud and Socke all duking it out for those top spots.
|
1. Morrow, Rainbow 2. WhiteRa, July 3. Nada, Naniwa 4. MC, BratOK 5. Idra, Tyler
|
Kind of off-topic but where did the Overcome All, Pride of War, and Victory After Victory things come from? I see them in every single starleague r&s thread but I don't know their origin.
|
Is it top 3 or top 2 that advance?
|
So, each player will be playing 27 games in the regular season. What if a player knows they're eliminated because of poor record before regular season ends? Do they keep playing games that don't matter to them?
and what are the prizes?

They have to keep playing because the bottom 16 will lose their spots the next season to make room for those who play in the open tournament and do well.

4/5/11
So its a month and a week from now or is it using the weird date format I've seen americans use before (m-d-y over d-m-y) ?
Would be good to have dates like "Tuesday May Fifth, 2011" or similar since the world doesn't have a standardized date format, afaik it's d-m-y everywhere except the NA where it's m-d-y ?
Sorry for OT but I don't want to miss this =)
|
Awfully small amount of information for a league that supposedly starts in a week :|
Hopefully in the next couple of days they'll release details and have their "new" website up.

It's April 5th 2011, and yes many TL forum fans are from many parts of the world. It's better to spell it out. I heard the date is changed.
|
Do Idra and Incontrol know the map pool in advance? before other players do?
|
It is actually starting a week later, Geoff said that on SoTG tonight. Said they didn't want to step on MLG's toes at all.

Huh, that had me fooled then if it is actually in like a week?

division 1:kiwi, morrow division 2: july, white-ra division 3: nada, squirtle division 4: MC select division 5: sen, zenio
|
So, uhh, are they gonna tell me how I can watch this?
Or update their website?
|
1: Kiwikaki, MorroW 2: TT1, White-Ra 3: Squirtle, NaDa 4: MC, Machine 5: Tyler, Socke
|
Isn't TLO playing just Terran now?
|
|
Is April 5 still the correct date? I heard InControl say a week later now?
|
The "maps not announced" part made me laugh a little.... maybe the players know? They have to train after all.
|
1: Morrow, Moon 2: White-Ra, July 3: Naniwa, dde (hope for new stars) 4: MC, Goody (if he can improve his macro)/Ace 5: Idra, Socke
really nice work with this thread, hope you get official update in near future. The new site should come really soon, they said the actual nasl.tv is just a teaser site. With this there might be all exact informations (date, money distribution, maps, rules, price for hd stream,...)
|
Hooray!
P.S. I think you have the wrong start date. Geoff said on SOTG that the league will start the second week of April (a week from Monday).
|
Few questions since I haven't really followed things in NASL
1. Is this an online competition with LAN finals or what? 2. How many players from each division advances fruther? (I see people mentioning two players, if so - wtf why such a low number having that kind of stars and stacked groups?) 3. What's the prize money distribution?
|
Why aren't the maps announced yet?
|
I am cheering for Catz, Ret and TLO!
|
1: Rainbow, Morrow 2: White-Ra, July 3: Naniwa, Nada 4: MC, Ret 5: Socke, Zenio (damn this group impresses me every time)
I just realised that one single 1024 single elimination tourney decides on the 8 qualifiers for next season. Wow, that sucks. At least have it double elimination. Otherwise its really random to get in.
|
We so exciiiited! We so exciiited!
(@ 00visor, it's the same as qualifying for code A or the first three gsl's; it seems to me that what we've learned from that is, any given season *is* going to be really random, but over the course of three or more seasons, the people who should be in the league will get in and stay there.)
|
So looking forward to this, definitely going to fall behind on the games, theres just so many lol.
Group 5 looks so scary, should be extremely competitive

I don't like the Code A qualifiers as well. But NASL is even worse. In Code A half the players are decided by qualifiers, in NASL 8 out of 50.
Even in Code A you have players like Bomber, Jinro who had difficulties to qualify, this will be worse in NASL. There will be some top players who fail to qualify for 3-4 straight seasons.
And very important: If you have a bad qualifier in GSL, he plays 1-2 matches and then he`s out. A NASL qualifier will play 10 full matches guaranteed.

There are 2 1028 man tourneys, getting top 8 of either gets you into next season.

Here is the graphic to explain the format ![[image loading]](http://i55.tinypic.com/8vp1eq.jpg)
In short: 1. yes 2. top 2 advance, then 5 brackets with 4 players each with the 11-30 place. winner of bracket advance too. last spot through 1024 open tournament 3. unknown yet

Wow, tons of games is coming, can't wait to see it.

its now FXOqxc I would edit that XD and wowowowowowow they actually brought a decent amount of koreans into this tourny I hope it will be good I want to see koreans dominate!
|
Sen, Idra, boxeR and Tyler in the same division Sweeeet!
|
Some basic questions:
When is the official start date? Why is it so difficult to find out when this starts? Why do we need to rely on a podcast?
|
I predict 1. Artosis, TLO 2. July, Ensnare 3. Nada, Squirtle 4. MC, Select 5. IdrA, Tyler
|
Lots of great stuff happening! MLG! TSL3, NASL.. Such a great decade to be living in, imo.
|
Group 1: Morrow and TLO Group 2: July and White-Ra Group 3: NaNiwa and Nada Group 4: MC and Ret Group 5: Tyler and Sen
|
This is going to be so exciting!
|
Where do I go to give NASL my money?
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere!!?

|
my predictions: 1. Moon ,TLO 2: White-ra (UBER PWNAGE TIMES 3!), July 3: Nada, squirtle 4: Ace, MC 5: Sen, tyler i hope: 1: Fenix, TLO 2: WhiteRa, tt1 3: Haypro, moonglade 4: BRAT_OK, goOdy 5: Sen, tyler
|
Really well constructed OP. I guess I should expect nothing less considering this is the NASL and knowing who are working on it. Looking forward to the games.
|
The groups promise to be very exciting!
Division 1: 1. Moon 2. is a tossup I feel like Morrow, Rainbow, Kiwikaki and maybe even Grubby have a Chance. I'd go with my gut feeling and say Grubby.
Division 2: 1. July 2. White-Ra, but qxc, ensnare, TT1 and SjoW all have a decent shot at taking it.
Division 3: 1. Squirtle 2. MoonGlade, but Naniwa may snatch it.
Division 4: 1. MC 2. ACE This division is stacked, but at the same time it has the two most Solid Koreans in the tournament. No Way a Zerg is taking a bo3 from any of the two Koreans. In fact, if anyone manages to beat a Korean it will be Select/Brat_ok/Hasuobs.
Division 5: 1. Idra 2. Sen with Zenio being the closest contender.
Awesome OP by the way.

I predict that no players end the season 9-0
|
1: Artosis/Kiwi (Calling it for an upset) 2: WhiteRa/July 3: Nada/Squirtle 4: MC/Ace 5: Idra/Tyler (if Idra gets out of his slump).
DeMuslim is the best player who will probs play the open bracket - I think he should win that.
|
so little information about this NASL and its only a week or 2 away. the site hasnt been updated at all, there is no forums, i have no clue how to make a account or buy a ticket. hell i dont even know what the prices of the tickets are or the schedule/time of the matches. it seems like teamliquid should be getting paid for basically doing all the work for NASL because without TL i would be completely clueless about this league and all information about it.

Pretty bad. Biggest gripe so far is the lack of different quality streams and bad casters.
|
Will season 2 hold qualifiers?
|
Does every player get to play everyone in their division? Also how many from each group advance? Just the top two in each group or the top three?
|
Really appreciate this thread. Thanks for the work!
|
Shinta - Yes, there will be qualifers. Two of them, actually - a 1024 man open bracket where the top 8 qualify for S2 and the overall winner also earns a spot in the S1 finals bracket. We don't know much about the second qualifer except that it will be for 8 open spots and will potientally include the worst 16 players from the current season, who must requalify if they want to stay in the league.
Broodlings - Yes, everyone plays each other player in their division. Top 2 from each division (10 players total) advance directly to the 16 man finals bracket, while the next best 20 across all divisions have a playoff for 5 finals spots. Places #31-34th do not advance, but do qualify for next season. The bottom 16 players must re-qualify.
It's all a bit confusing until you are able to wrap your head around it. If you can only take one thing away from all the info, it's this - the way everything is set up currently, we are GUARANTEED at least 8 new faces in NASL season 2.
|
Here, I tried to make everything as concise and easy to understand as possible.
There are 5 divisions of 10 players, a total of 50 players.
There are 16 spots available in the S1 finals.
The top 2 from each division - 10 players total - advance to the finals. This leaves 40 players and 6 spots.
The remaining 40 players are then ranked, and their rank determines their fate:
#11-30(20 players) - Compete in a playoff in which 5 of the remaining 6 finals spots are up for grabs. The 15 people who miss out automatically qualify for next season. #31-34th - Those 4 players do not get a chance to compete for a finals spot, but they do qualify for next season. #35-50 - Those 16 players are knocked out of NASL, and must requalify.
At this point, there is 1 spot out of 16 up for grabs in the finals bracket, and 16 spots out of 50 available for next season's roster.
1024 man single elimination bracket - Open to anyone. The 8 players who reach the quarterfinals win spots in NASL for next season. The one person who wins the entire tournament also grabs the last spot in the finals bracket for this season. I am assuming here that current NASL competitors are not allowed to enter.
S2 Qualifer - This is the one thing we know little about. We know this qualifer will be for the last 8 spots on the NASL roster, and that the 16 players who got relegated from S1 will be eligible to enter. Beyond that we know nothing.

So many games are happening in the NASL, do you have the data on the map statistics available motbob? Would be interesting to see what the map balance has been like so far.
Also, thanks a ton for doing this. You've been doing so many R&S and LR threads, it's awesome!

hey guys who did idra lose to? first page says he's 4-1

|
Could you please update the group play details in the OP? They're really nifty but haven't been updated in several weeks.

<3 Now NASL is actually starting to become a little exciting, so slow in the start with matches that feel like they don't matter but with so few matches left to play in each group it's getting pretty cool. Can't wait to see who'll make it to the live event, it's 16 players right?

sen! what a monster, only lost 3 games so far, 2 to boxer
|
I hope group stages are almost over.
|
This thread is so good! Thanks motbob. 3 more weeks left of group play, top 2 per group advance and the 3-5 players in each division compete for 5 spots. 16th spot is an open qualifier
|
Wow thanks for putting all this info together, especially love the summary results charts you made. This is incredibly helpful!

Starting to get tense, now that the end of the group stages is drawing near!
What do Haypro, Moonan and Grubby have in common? Out of the ten people threatened to be thrown out of the NASL, those three are the only non-North Americans! Well, Moonan still has a good chance to slip past Cruncher (both same number of points), pushing that number down to 2, so I'm definitely going to root for him!
InControl is doing far better than I expected and somehow, I am more glad about the fact how ignorant I was than if I were right. :-)
edit: removing typos.

Yeah, I honestly didn't expect the North American players to be so awful in this, especially given they have the home server advantage, it seems from this and other tournaments like MLG/IPL like there's a huge skill gap between the top three guys (Idra, Kiwikaki and Select) and the rest of the server.
|
Well, there isn't that much lag when Europeans play on the NA server, I think. So the "home server advantage" isn't as big as one might think.
It's great how Boxer manages to place so high in his group, which does have plenty of goot players. He even has a good shot at placing 2nd and get a seed into the finals. The games he lost in the super tournament, he lost because of his own mistakes, glad to see that he maybe just had a day off.
Btw. Moonan's chance of slipping past Cruncher is slimmer than I thought. They have one future game against each other, but while Cruncher "only" has to face qxc and TT1, Moonan stands before WhiteRa and JulyZerg...
edit: the Koreans on the other hand, are doing remarkably well. All of them except Rainbow are currently in the top 6, which roughly qualifies them for the bracket tournament for the finals (it actually the top 30 of all players in 5 divisions).
TT1 is also still in the game and Fenix is ranked very high in his division, maybe the good training in the team house is starting to pay off?

Glad I am not the only one interested in crunching numbers on the NASL.
The bottom 16 players (by record, then scoring, finally head-to-head) are going to be kicked out of NASL next season. Based on my simulations, that essentially implies that all players with less than 4 wins, with exception for the highest scoring 3-win player.
So far... - Winless -
Grubby 0-7 (-11pt), PainUser 0-6 (-10pt), qxc 0-6 (-9pt)
- 1 Win -
CatZ (-5pt), KawaiiRice (-6pt), HayprO (-6pt), Machine (-7pt), Artosis (-10pt)
- 2 Wins - (-2pt)
MoMaN, CrunCher, mOOnGLaDe; (-3pt) Stalife, Tyler, MaNa; (-4pt) GoOdy, Drewbie; (-5pt) Cloud; (-6pt) RainBOw.
To be the highest scoring 3-win, a player needs to be at least (-3pt) to survive relegation. That means these players are mathematically eliminated if they end up with a 3-6 record or worse: Grubby, PainUser, Machine, Artosis, MaNa, GoOdy, Drewbie, ClouD, RainBOw.
The interesting thing is that while a player like qxc is technically not eliminated, he needs to go 6-0 in his remaining schedule against SjoW, CrunCher, and DarKFoRcE, just to have a chance to survive for next season.

Nvm, I was talking bullshit. I thought the bottom 2 of each division gets thrown out, but in fact it's the bottom 16 in the overall standing.
Regarding overall standing, does anybody know when that will finally be updated on the nasl site?
|
Needs to be updated with 7-5 results. Great to see this updated, just in time as the placings are getting important now that we're in the tail-end of the season :-)
|
So the NASL site finally updated their overall standing: http://www.nasl.tv/Standings For those who want are interested how each region is doing (too lazy to calculate for each nation):
NA: 9 out 18 are in the bottom 16 (50%) Korea: 1 out of 11 are in the bottom 16 (9%) SEA (more like rest of asia): 1 out of 2 (50%) EU: 5 out of 19 are in the bottom 16 (26%)
So while NA and SEA would lose half of their players, Europe loses significantly less and Korea barely loses anyone. Everything is still in the open though, as there are plenty of people in the lower-middle field who have about the same number of points. There'll be significant fluctuation in the standing as players fight to stay in, in the final days of the division round! (due to where I live in, I'll root for the europeans though)
On a sidenote, I just realized how good Seth really is... O.o I will definitely look forward to see him in the GSTL!

Rule of thumbs for the NASL format:- Players with less than 4 wins will not make the playoffs.
- At most, only a single highest-scoring 3-win player will make the next season (at least -3pts).
- Even with 4 wins, playoff is not guaranteed, so a player need to pick up several 1-2 sets to assure their chances.
Division 1, Week 8 About the five-way pillup for the top: -
MorroW has the clearest path to victory.
-
Moon controls his own destiny.
-
Sheth, KiWiKaKi, and Fenix still have a chance for an automatic spot, but needs things to fall into place that are outside of their control, besides winning out.
-
ViBE can be a king-maker with an upset.
Regarding survival:-
Artosis and Grubby are mathematically eliminated from the tournament and will be relegated. Nothing but pride now for both of them.
-
ViBE and TLO both needs one more win, but ViBE has a much tougher schedule (Sheth, KiWiKaKi).
- If
RainBOw drop a single map in the next two weeks, he's (most likely) out of the playoffs.

Verrrrrrrrry, very even race distribution for the top 15 (top 3 of each division) as of 6/2: 6 Terran, 5 Zerg, 4 Protoss. Pleasing to see. Also, Morrow doing really well. I want him to go far, I need to steal his ZvP :D

Moonan (Korean/American FXO Terran player) isn't playing in this tournament, yet. Are you referring to MoMan (Zerg french player for CN)?

Agh... yes, of course. I always mix those two up... <.<
edit: typo

I'm having trouble finding playoff format, can anyone guide me. Does the top 3 players qualify or something or how does it work?

on the side note: they really have to need money to lower the free resolution to 360... not even fun to watch now -.-

50 players from around the world are competing in the NASL:
18 from NA 18 from EU 11 from KOR 3 from elsewhere
16 players are eliminated:
11 from NA (61% of all NA players) 4 from EU (22% of all EU players) 1 from KOR (1% of all KOR players)
16 advance to the grand finals:
1 from NA (6%) 6 from EU (33%) 8 from KOR (64%) (one of them from open qualifiers) 1 from elsewhere (33%)
edit: for the next season:
players from season 1: 7 from NA 14 from EU 10 from KOR 3 from elsewhere +16 ???
adding open tournament 1: 7 from NA 17 from EU (+3) 15 from KOR (+5) 3 from elsewhere +8 ??? (counted lowely as european, do not recognize his flag but seeing him in small european cups all the time)
